GVW law. Skateboard 5 lbs garbage truck 40,000 lbs which has the right of way? I am sorry this kid had to find out the hard way. You know I have seen a lot fewer obnoxious bicyclists lately. The street is not a place to play with your toys.

A family just lost a son. I guess sensitivity does not exist in this city. I pray no one in your family experiences such a tragedy.

What amazes me is...why is a garbage truck out that late at night picking up trash? They are noisy and that would bother me. Dogs barking, lights flashing, the reverse beeping....

The absolute gutter level of responses and comments on this WREG site prove that internet anonymity has its distinct downside. Someone dies...let's all make funny jokes, ha, ha. WE wouldn't want to set examples for maturity, would we?

It is not so much why they were skateboarding in the early morning, I am not understanding how the driver was unable to stop. Another question I have is how fast was he going? It is so sad for someone to die like that. With so many people working second and third shifts, 2:00a.m. easily becomes someone's 8:00a.m. This has really touched my heart heavily.

This was an unfortunate tragedy for this young person and for the family and friends.

Very sorry, my condolences.

I find it odd also that the garbage truck was out during the middle of the night. And judging by the skid mark left of the street, he had to be traveling at a fairly high rate of speed.

My thoughts are with the family of this young man.

i bet it was a young african american run down by a redneck cracker garbage truck driver. if a black man would have run a white kid down we would all be wanting to lynch this guy!

How old was he? Any indication why he was skateboarding at 2am?

Garbage trucks empty dumpsters around businesses at all hours. All that work can't be done during normal waking hours alone.

This kid was a soon to be father and now his child will grow up without him. "learn the hard way"? there's no learning you Cordova POS, he died. Bicyclists and skateboarders have more of a right to use these streets than you lazy people that only leave your house to walk 5 feet to your car. He could have been leaving work and skating to save gas to have money for his kid and you all just sit here and make cruel jokes. It was an accident and the fault lies in the guy who neglected to realize his truck was capable of killing!!!
