Sure why not. The city spends money on Community Centers with indoor sports available,(swimming, basketball) why not a indoor skateboard facilty. There used to be one in Hampton in an industrial park. The kids there where friendly and more that willing to talk skating with you. For the most part, skaters seem to all get along with very little trouble. Believe it or not these types of activities help our youth develop their social skills too. They appear to all have that common interest. Not to mention they are getting so actual physical excercise. Not to mention, it keeps them out of the streets and out of trouble. I would just hope the facility has some sort of adult supervision. Kids will be kids.
I know, I know ....funding funding funding. There will always be funding problems but I've seen the city spend money on worse things.

Last week, the Newport News Planning Commission recommended that the City Council approve construction of the city's first privately run indoor skateboard park at a former nursery on Chatham Drive in Denbigh.

4 This is some lame skaeboard thing for middle class white kids. Skateboard parks do not benefit the black community one bit nor prevent violence among the youth. We need funding for nice indoor centers, located in each neightborhood that offers child care, job training, and basic medical care. |
The child care would be over flowing, no one would show up for the job training and the health care would be full of gunshot wounds and freeloaders looking for prescription drugs. |

My response is similar to my response in another forum where you claimed that black people are "begging for jobs". Give me a break! Go to a temp agency, read the classifieds, sign up with VEC - there are jobs out there. Everyone has to start SOMEWHERE. When I have had to drive down Jefferson Ave in the middle of the day - on a week day - I see PLENTY of folks standing around, hanging out on street corners - obviously NOT working. Doesn't look like anyone is begging for a job to me. I didn't do anything to you, so stop blaming every white person for the problems in the black community. I came from a poor family - I worked hard in school to get good grades, went to college, and found a good job. There are plenty of opportunities out there for people, regardless of race. Quit your whining, get off you A.S.S., stop making poor decisions and take responsibility for yourself. As for the skate park - I love the idea. |
