Full story: TwinCities.com

More than a thousand miles of ATV trails criss-cross the Cloquet Valley State Forest in northern Minnesota, a web that hunters have long used in their pursuit of deer and grouse.

Nanny state. With my ATV, I'm free to make as much noise and cause as much soil erosion as I want to. Too bad on those LiberAls if they don't like the noise and the smell of the exaust, let them move to a quiet place like a forest or something. I cant wait to get my share of them deers.

I can't stand ATV'ers. Most of them think they have every right to tear up the land wherever they go.
They have no courtesy or regard for other hunters.
They should be banned from ALL the state forests.

I love to see you crazy libtards trying to make a point on things you know nothing about.

For those that want quiet and free from ATV noise?

It's deer season Libbers, no family picnics or photo shoots.

Besides, hunting regulations limit ATV use to before and after shooting hours and for a lunch break.

Go whine somewhere else.

More than 1000 miles of trails, with 1/5th closed to ATV traffic.
So, 800 miles of trails not enough?
I've been hunting for 30 years. If I can't walk to my stand, or pack out my kill, it's time to stop hunting in the middle of a forest.
Seriously.
People are too dependent on their toys. Leave your GPS at home and learn how to read a map and compass, or, just pay attention to which direction you go.
Leave the ATV at home, and walk. If you can't pack your kill to your shack or truck, maybe you need to get off the ATV more, and leave the beer until the day is done.
Some people like using ATV's to hunt.
Fine.
But, some prefer the whole "roughing it in nature" aspect of hunting.
Stop being selfish and give us a place where we can be free of you.

Just as you have a right to use your ATV, we have a right to be free of your ATV.

Make all the people who live in the METRO area pay a tax to the county they are riding in outside of the metro. Also charge all those bikers ( bicycles) .

Isn't part of the point of hunting to get away from the annoyances found in our routines? People who use ATVs while hunting are wussies.

Also all you boaters and ATVers with the wide trailers, stay to the right side of the lane or way on the left if you are passing. You people are hazards on the road.

It's about time the regulations are placed on ATV and snowmobile use. People who ride them for the most part tend to have a "me first attitude", the whining from these morons is expected. As a long time rural resident, I have moved twice to get away from idiots on motorized recreation toys. In my opinion only the few riders of ATV's and snowmobiles ride them respectfully. Riders tend to be people from the Cities out to destroy rural area's for their long weekend, or kids with no respect for private property. You riders ruined things for yourself by being jerks on your toys. I believe the mentality that attracts people to the ATV/snowmobile is that of substandard morals and reasoning ability. You always trespass on private land, and show zero consideration for land owners, or public lands. I don't think these restrictions do enough to protect our habitat.

Makes sense toi me that some would object to any restriction on their freedom to burn fuel and save themselves some exercise. Vandalism by the the ATV crowd is to be expected and the DNR should increase fees and licenses for the ATV hunters to cover the cost of their vandalism.

How about a zone system that prohibits ATV in some places and allows them to ruin an area set aside for their enjoyment?

Hey don't worry about it! As Obama's regulatory czar we plan on making hunting illegal then you don't have to worry about ATVs.

WOW! You must be a real rough and tough hunter guy. You chase the deer down and use a re-curve bow and flint to light your fires?

So according to you, when you can't hump your 200 pound deer stand into the woods or drag your 250 pound deer out of the "middle of the forest", you set up along the highway somewhere?

Or maybe you're one of those real men that walks into the middle of the woods and puts a permanent stand in, then tells no one else they can use it?

Either way, here in Minnesota, you're not even allowed to use your ATV during hunting season unless it's before or after shooting hours or for an hour and a half at midday lunch, which makes your argument entirely WEAK.

Put the wine down and do a real hunt.

Aron, you are ruining things for others with your behavior on your machine. The fee to own and operate an ATV or snowmobile should reflect the effort it takes to enforce the rules so idiots like you get popped. It should cost $1200 to license either machine, double it next year if the rider can't follow the rules.

There was a day before ATVs when you could walk back into the Nemadji east of Bruno and find some state land where there were no other hunters in sight.

Now all the pig hunters have posted all the private property and placed easements on all the line roads and then they ride their lazy arses out into the woods on an ATV.

Then they crawl up in their heated stand with a TV and watch the spoke cut areas for deer so they can shoot them and then collect up the deer and brag how difficult it was to hunt deer over a beer.

Oh ya don't forget all the food they plant to draw in the deer. No you cannot place food in the woods and feed deer BUT if you plant the food you can provide all the bait you want to attract the animals.

Used to call them "Meat Hunters".

That term would be a compliment compared to what I call them now!

The Minnesota DNR is of NO HELP!!

Used to be you had to hunt for bear during the deer season, now the "Approved" method to hunt bear is to put out garbage and wait for the bear and shoot them, real sportsmanlike.

I'll not be buying a deer license any time soon!

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Libra

If you're invited to a party or gathering today and you don't know whether to go, you should. You'll have a terrific time and you might meet someone who always makes your knees go weak. Even if it's a perfectly harmless flirtation and you're both happily committed to other people, it will still do your ego good to have a tantalizing conversation with this person.
