“It is purely a routine immigration issue. These are people who do not have valid residency permits anymore. If you live somewhere and your residency permit expires, and it is not renewed, then it is not renewed”

ASMARA, Eritrea: Eritrea said Monday it had not renewed the residence permits of 13 Roman Catholic missionaries but denied allegations that they were being expelled. via The Daily Star

This might shock you but Eritrea has slightly more Christians than Muslims.

pleas don't relate every thing to your own way. I personaly a refuge living in the uk but at the same time I have to obey by the rule of the country what so ever reson. So what seams to me is threre is luck of respect to such a proud country and people. My answaer this is not discrimination of any religion but it is the right of any country to do so.

Mr. Meconen, with all due respect, you are a living oxymoron or contradiction. How can you be a refugee and a supporter of such a regime. The problem with this proud country of ours is the fact that it is run and supported by our ill educated brothers and a few sisters.
Anyone who supports the current trends in Eritrea does not have the best interest of the Ertrean people.
I wish you the best and I hope you cease being a refugee in the near future. May the good Lord remove what ever OBSTACLE is STOPPING you from going back home.

Ato Abebe,
Here is an excript form World Fact Book in regards to Eritrean population:
"Ethnic groups:ethnic Tigrinya 50%, Tigre and Kunama 40%, Afar 4%, Saho 3%(Red Sea coast dwellers), other 3%"
Based on the above let's do the maths. The majority ethnic Tigrina (Abyssinians) are Christians, about a third of the Tigre and Kunama are Christians. The Saho and Afar are predominantly Muslim. Now how in the ____ do you come up with 75% Muslim. I suggest you do some fact gathering first, instead of accusing me of hiding the facts.
Just for the record, I dosen't make a bit of a difference in my life wether Eritrea is majority Muslim or Christian.
The point I was trying to make to Mr. White was the fact that the ATROCITY commited by the Eritrean government against the Catholic missionaries was spearheaded by Christians. Again based on facts, are predominantly Orthodox/Coptic leadership.
Now don't go accusing me of being anti-Orthodox, please. I may be one.

Hi Tsena am amized that you try to explain the situation I am. And you wish me very well in future:thanks. But I would like to give you one proverb 'don't judge a book by its cover'.No one in this world heat his own country but the idea you haven't yet able to discover what make the people to displace from the loving ones and by the whole his contry. And you said am supporting a team of people but to be clear from your mind, this is not the pirority of any true nationality of this country. At last you seams to me bit discriminetor becouse you try to compier the number of this peaceful blievers in this peace loving nation. May God bless the people of truth full people and forgiveness to the siners.

Greetings Meconen,
I agree with you on people having various reasons to leave their mother-land.However, there should not be any reason to have mass exodus. Our people, as well as the Ethiopians, are still leaving their respective countries by the hundreds. This can only be because life has not been made easy by the self proclamed leaders.
I strongly disagree with you on the discrimination aspect, just because I copied an information to make a point. In any case, there is nothing wrong with talking about peoples ethnicity (as long as you don't use it for evil). The problem in Eritrea arises from being forbidden to talk about who we are. The people who don't want you to talk about this have somthing to hide. As you can see by my post name I'm a proud Tsena Degle (Akele Guzai). I can assure you I would not discriminate against anyone based on that. The world is way bigger than narrow nationalism.

were all refugees on Gods earth we would do well to remember this, although we can claim nationality of our particular countries of habitation, we should deny no one the right to come and share in our blessings, especially in the affluent west..as a british Christian ive seen a lot of changes over the last 10-15 years, britain has become morally corrupt, taking God out of the classroom has had the biggest effect on society we could imagine and only now is britain reaping what it has sown in regards to the out of control society we live in, the country has symbolically set up asherah poles, worshipping the created not the creator, the Bible tells us the destruction that came upon Israel, when it turned to false gods and stopped worshipping the True God, even after restoration they have failed to recognize the Son of God our Lord Jesus, can any country call its self Christian, when they promote the Gods of lust, desire, materialism, vanity ,money, violence, greed, selfishn ess, i could go on forever...as Christians we are living in the last days and no other time in the history of mankind are biblical prophecies coming true at an amazing rate as they are in our time..so in which ever country we may live, do all we can to uphold the faith we have in Christ.. turn from the darkness of this morally corrupt world to the light of Jesus..and be a light to those living in the darkness..because now is the time for mission..a spiritual war is being fought and as Christians we must put on the armour of God keep our gaze on Jesus and be filled with the holy spirit..to win through in these darkest of times..may Christ be with you ..God bless ..Andy

Christians of the Roman Catholic version should be treated with cordiality and acceptance. The Vatican today does not set out to convert masses of non-Christians to their religion. The Church was indeed a handmaiden of oppression in centuries past just as Russia was once communist, or Germany and Japan were fascist in World War Two.

Evangelical, Mormon and Jehovah's Witness types of Christianity need to be expelled and criminalized in Third World countries. But the Catholic Church treats non-believers with respect, and does good work for education, poor relief and social justice. I do not agree with their position on divorce, abortion and birth control, but I look at Catholicism with good neigborliness.
