Leaving the Somali People to Resolve Their Issue Themselves: the Only Solution

The invasion of the sovereign state of Somalia by external forces in gross violation of all international laws and principles is a shameful chapter in the history of the world that prides itself on its civilized laws and principles and modern philosophies of human rights. The massacre, destruction and displacement of innocent civilians that ensued after the invasion that was carried out in clear violation of the principles of the right to self-determination and the rule of law are by far the worst crimes on humanity in the 21st century.

The outcome of the ill-devised invasion has so far been nothing but failure and embarrassment. For two years the world has seen and heard the news of war, turmoil and human loss coming out of Mogadishu. Having entered into a quagmire of fire to please its masters, the TPLF regime is now in desperate search for a way out.

Realizing that they are immersed deeply in an inescapable quagmire, the quarters that invaded Somalia have been making attempts to divide and weaken Somali opposition forces in a bid to cover up their failures and shake off accountability for the crimes on humanity they committed on the Somali people. It is to be recalled that the ill-conceived so-called reconciliation attempts made by external powers in Djibouti had failed without accomplishing anything because they did not include the wishes and desires of the Somali people and their political forces. Yet, apparently having learned nothing from previous experience, the same quarters are now engaged in similar futile attempts in Kenya. However, there is one fact that these quarters have been unable to recognize or refuse to recognize, i.e., the primary reason why the afore-mentioned attempts could not success is because the initiative was not taken by the Somali people and their contents did not address Somali issues.

It is to be recalled that the Government of Eritrea had two years ago warned that the invasion of Somalia by the TPLF regime and the US Administration could only lead to an inescapable quagmire and that it will entail dangerous consequences on the Horn of Africa. The Eritrean government had also pointed out that the Somali issue should and could only be resolved by the Somalis themselves. But the warnings fell on deaf ears and the illegal invasion was carried out. In their attempt to cover up the failure they sustained in their initial erroneous measure through the use of excessive military force, these forces have in the past two years committed gross crimes on humanity against the Somali people which history will never forget. The Somali experience of the past two years in particular and what the world has learned regarding the US Administration and their agents in general is that their tactic of trying to redeem one mistake by another is only a march forward to failure and destruction. Repeating in Kenya the failed attempt for so-called reconciliation in Djibouti is a clear example of the aforementioned fact.

Although the US Administration and TPLF regime refuse to face facts as they are, their most formidable challenge in Somalia is the people’s own initiative for peace and reconciliation. Thus, it is clear that there is only one effective solution, i.e. to accept and respect the Somali people’s choice without interference. The problem is that of the Somalis and accepting the fact that it can only be resolved by the Somalis themselves would be a wise move. The only constructive role the international community can play is to encourage and create conducive grounds for the Somali people to come together and deliberate on their differences, and more importantly to respect Somalia’s territorial integrity!

A U.N. Report on Somalia Accuses Eritrea of Adding to the Chaos

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 26 — Eritrea has covertly shipped “huge quantities of arms,” possibly including suicide bomb belts and missiles that can shoot down planes, to insurgents in Somalia in an effort to torpedo Somalia’s fledgling government, a new United Nations report says.

According to the report, delivered to the Security Council last Friday, United Nations monitors tracked a cargo jet that made at least 13 flights from Eritrea into Somalia to unload fighters and weapons.

The Eritrean government denied all accusations and accused the arms monitors of being “misused and abused by some countries who have created quagmire in Somalia.”

The report comes at a crucial time for Somalia, which is still steeped in chaos, awash in arms and struggling to establish a permanent government. Many people fear that the country could become the new battleground between Ethiopia and Eritrea, neighboring nations that fought a costly border war in the late 1990s. Thousands of Ethiopian troops rearranged the power dynamic in Somalia late last year, ousting an Islamic movement that had controlled considerable territory and helping to install in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, a Western-backed transitional government that had limited influence inside the country.

Since then, Ethiopian troops have been facing an insurgency in Somalia that appears to be a mix of clan militias, disgruntled businessmen and remnants of the Islamist forces.

The United Nations report accused the Ethiopian military of using white phosphorous bombs to kill 15 insurgents and 35 civilians in Mogadishu in April; residents said the bombs literally melted people.

The Ethiopian government denied this and called the accusation “baseless,” though United Nation monitors provided bomb scene photographs and evidence from soil samples indicating that the soil at the impact area had 117 times the normal amount of phosphorous.

The report also detailed a large suicide attack on an Ethiopian Army base near Mogadishu in March that killed 63 soldiers and wounded 50, making it one of the deadliest single strikes in Somalia in recent memory but one that had been significantly played down at the time.

Over all, the report painted a picture of the conflict in Somalia that was much more intense and grim than most outsiders knew. But some Somalia analysts were cautious. A previous United Nations arms report on Somalia, issued in November, had made some claims — including one that said 700 Somali jihadists traveled to Lebanon to fight alongside Hezbollah — that were roundly dismissed as inaccurate.

The recommendations at the end of the most recent report had familiar United Nations prescriptions for Somalia: more police officers, better disarmament and establishing a viable government. Transitional leaders are holding a reconciliation conference in Mogadishu, and this week, government officials invited Islamist leaders. Several have replied that they are not interested in coming.

This is important to know especially for the Eritreans who seem to rhetorically support you. This is also directected at the amhara, sidama, oromo, tigray and eritrea basically all of Ethiopia.
And next in line are the kenyans and djiboutis cause they also have a piece of the fiction dream called greater somalia.

Even though Issaias is against ethiopia and supports everything that is anti-ethiopian he has many valid points. It was a misstake to go in to Somalia and opposite to what many somalians think almost all civilians did not want this war. But the article misses one very important fact. The southern somalis started to agitate for the Ethiopians ogadenis to kill other ethiopians in order to incorporate ogaden into somalia. Now if Ethiopia is supposed to respect Somalias territorial integrity then how come the southern somalis didn´t do same. Instead of focusing on their people they neglected the need of their on people to follow an imperial dream.
The big question is: If the southern somalis gave the ethiopian government assurances that they would respect Ethiopias territorial integrity would then Ethiopia have reacted the way it did? There wouldn´t have been a conflict, but since southern somalis didn´t the ethiopian government decided they wouldn´t either.

this is EXACTLY what the NEO-CONS did to the ethiopian REGIME they FOOLED them by OFFERING them SUPPORT (military) and ASSISTANCE (aid) if they MANAGE to do their DIRTY work so these FOOLS ran away with it THINKING it would be EASY with the NEO-CONS help but LOOK at the REALITY on the GROUND these COWARDS with the HELP of a SUPERPOWER can even defeat ONE somali CLAN let alone SOMALIA this is WHY they are a JOKE to US

You aren't fooling anyone - it's easy for everyone else to see that inexperienced people are unaware of their obligations, Virgo. You're grumpy about starting a familiar process from the beginning again, but don't let that get in the way of getting on with it. Sour grapes have no place in your daily dealings. Although you may 'own' a project, it's ultimately in the hands of someone else. Deal with it and then move on.
