Ethiopia's leader warns Eritrea over "aggressions"

May 12, 2010 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Sudan Tribune

Ethiopian Prime minister Meles Zenawi has advised arch-foe Eritrea to refrain from what he said was a "growing aggression by Asmara". PM Meles Zenawi, also commander in-chief of the national defense forces, stressed that his army is militarily capable of smashing down any foreign invaders to safe guard country; however he said that the Ethiopian ...

Every time something happens in Ethiopia Eritrea is blamed. The Oromo and Ogaden liberation fronts were formed back in the 70's and 80's in South Ethiopia, yet Eritrea is blamed for it. Not the actions by successive governments in Ethiopia that have created the conditions for the formation of these groups, not the occupation and oppressions of the lands of these groups, but Eritrea.

Hunger and drought is killing the people of the HOA, blame Eritrea. They surely had something to do with it. One of the major Damns that was just built weeks ago collapsed, blame Eritrea.

These Empty threats and accusations by MZ are nothing but divergently tactics aimed at drawing attention away from the oppressive tactics used by his government and supporters against the oppositions. But of course all of the hateful and ignorant people whose happiness depends on the suffering of Eritrea will be supporting him and cheering for a military conflict aimed at destroying Eritrea. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Fasil, you still here bragging about Badme. You lost 80,000 people in less than two years and you still bragging about that. As ignorant as you are I am sure you are clueless to the following fact: The war was never about Badme! What MZ really wanted once the conflict escalated to full war is still part of Eritrea and always will be.

You want to call Eritreans "cowards"? If not for Eritreans you and your family would still be licking Mengistus boots. If not for Eritreans your ethnic group would still be called "kumal" by their fellow Ethiopians and looked down at instead of being in high positions in Ethiopia. If not for Eritrans, the province of Tigray would still be a dry dusty province with no resources or economic development.

So think long and hard who you and your kinds owe your very existence too before you open your illiterate, ignoranct, childish mouth.

ELF helped TPLF alot along with other groups to get rid of the derg. but the decision to seperate from ethiopia was bad, cuz eritrea is suffering more then ever cuz of this independent ego. the two should unite together once and for all.

The more you write the dumber you look. Yes we were colonized by the Italians, all of Africa was colonized by the europeans at some point in their history. Are you forgetting that the Italians occupied Ethiopia for five years before the british along withe their African colonies saved you and restored your king?

You simple minded fool, many nations around teh world share the same languages, what is your point? What makes Tigrinia and Ethiopian language instead of an Eritrean language? By the way, there are languages in Eritrea that are not spoken anywhere in Ethiopia or anywhere else.

Unlike in Ethiopia, tigrinia or any other regional language is spoken with pride here in Eritrea. Go to Tigray and see how many people (especially the young people) speak Amharic instead of their own language. We are not embarasssed of our culture and identity and will show it off whenever we want. You and the likes of you on the other hand still suffering from inferiority complex and are always trying to be something you are not instead of being proud of who you are.

Do yourself a big service and don't write ior say anything, kyou could trick people into thinking that you have a brain and some common sense. Once you start opening your mouth or writing your ingnorance and stupidity will be exposed.

Of Course you won (in your dreams)against America, Russia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti and Yemen. Last time you fought over Badme and you lost the actual war(I have seen a clip your armies running for their lives)but you keep on telling everyone that, you the great ones, had won. Boring propaganda. You never won any war, roaming around mountains hiding behind fox holes were all what you ever did. I blame the TPLF for giving you independence that you don't deserve. Now you are trying to fight America? hahahha Never knew that dimwit Isayas have sense of humour. Now you are claiming Puntland kkkkkkkkk If it was for me you would still be Ethiopia's province. But be sure we will get our sea ports back, it is just a matter of time.

Diana,

Nobody gave us independence! That was won in the battlefield by the sons of daughters of Eritrea. If you actually researched the events of that time using credible unbiased sources you would know better than to talk out of your ass like you are now. As early as 1977 all of Eritrea was free until the Russians along with the Cubans saved you. This is before there was a TPLF armed struggle. Your forefathers could not do it with all of the outside help they had. Now you are here boasting about Badme? Tell me, when was the last time any Nation lost 80,000 plus in a span of two years since WW2? Enjoy Badme, Assab will always be part of Eritrea no matter how much that has you crying like a little school girl.

“Your” seaports? When in your sad and poverty stricken history did you have any sea ports with the exception of when the west allowed you to annex Eritrea in 1952? Please tell me when and under what ruler, and make sure to give us at least one credible source. Let alone Eritrean ports, even Ogaden and Oromya were never part of Abbyssinia until Menelik invaded and colonized it using European weapon, tactics, and help that he got in exchange for Djiboutie.

As usual you are here making empty threats about how you are going to get your “ports” back? Are you forgetting what happened when Mengistu, the original midget, and the current midget MZ had the same dream. How many more Ethiopian lives are you going to sacrifice to get something that was not, is not, and never will be yours? Maybe if it was you or your loved ones serving in the military for this crack pipe dream you would not be so quick to make these threats.

That’s ok though, you are just a joke anyways, nobody is taking you seriously. My advise to you, work towards feeding your people and freeing your economy from foreign nations that are exploiting, using, and abusing your nation like a cheap you know what.

Ethionow, respectfully:

I appreciate your genuine concern for the well being of both nations and I share that same concern as well. After reading comments by people like Fasil and Diana it is good to know that there are good hearted people that care for the well being of Ethiopia and Eritrea.

But please know that we did not separate because we thought we can have a better life, we separated (and paid dearly to get there) because we are not Ethiopians and never were. Your identity and who you are is not something that you can trade in for a better life. For better or worst we will be independent and would rather suffer as Eritreans than live in comfort as anything else.

Instead of hoping for unification, let’s hope for peace, prosperity, and harmonious relations as neighbors who share a lot more than just borders.

No Assab, No Brain

If MZ was in a position to hand Assab to anyone, how come he was not in a position to take Addis without the support of Eritrea, how come he was not able to guard the Airport and other important installations in Ethiopia without Eritrea? The first Tanks that rolled into Addis were Eritrean Tanks. As late as 1996 Eritrean troops were still stationed in Ethiopia. Where was this MZ power than?

Your Forefathers from the DERG and Haile era died dreaming of Assab, now I guess its your turn.

No problem, come and get what you think is yours and I can assure you that you will be reunited with your forefathers from those days.

no peace in eritrea (east africa) until ethiopia get back assab.

now,ethi-opposion party(medrek)..said,medrek will opt for outlet to the sea of assab, this is one of our national security objectives.

Thanx for caring about our beloved Eritrea, but I think we can take care of ourselves. I also thank you for knowing and admitting that the EPLF (it is not the ELF, they were their mortal enemies) did indeed helped TPLF; not many Tigrayans admit that. The decision to separate came about after we, Eritreans, were tired of Ethiopia opperssing us, so you should have thought about that before you opperesed and attacked us for thirty years. Now we are independent and doing just as well as can be expected for a country of only nienteen years, who started from zero and is getting almost no help from anyone but its own people. The two countries being neigbours can cooperate but unite? don't even think that because it shall never happen, ever. Would the US and Canada unite? NO, so we shall never unite either.
