Arpaio investigates Obama's birth certificate

Mar 1, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WSJV-TV South Bend

America's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff finds himself entangled these days in his own thorny legal troubles: a federal grand jury probe over alleged abuse of power, Justice Department accusations of racial profiling and revelations that his department didn't adequately investigate hundreds of Arizona sex-crime cases.

Some people just don't have anything better to do than to trash our president. Instead of finding defects in birth certificate or being split because of political views, we should all come together and work on getting this country where it used to be but due to this hostility instead of bringing the country back up we're bringing it down even more. That sheriff needs to get to work on his crew first instead of trying to dig up dirt on our president.
I totally agree. Joe shouldn't stoop to this in spite of the well known fact that Obama despises the Citizens of Arizona ( or anywhere else!) who try to take a stand against the alien invasion and colonization of their communities and their State.

Yeah, pretty much. Issa doesn't give two figs about Fast and Furious. And he's probably smart enough to know the Second Amendment theory makes no sense. What he's after is using Holder to symbolically crucify Obama.

Saw somebody the other day referring to this as revenge for Watergate.

Legality is determined in a court of law--not the court of public opinion.

Ummm, are you aware of what it would take to change the Constitution?
And just exactly HOW would this continuation of a strategy initiated under George W. Bush bring about the gigantic sea change in public opinion that would be required to carry out this Constitutional rewrite?
And how could Obama possibly benefit?
To change the Constitution he would need both the House and the Senate to legislate it. That would only happen if the Republicans lost the House. Another strategy could be another Executive Order enacted for "the Country's own good". And Obama and his like-minded legislators would care less about public opinion if he continued down the road of assaulting the Constitution. He told his Progressive followers in the past he was tempted to override the Constitution....and he did just that on the Fast & Furious Executive Order.
Gee, the concept of Sea and Obama is quite entertaining. Maybe they can arrange that at GITMO after his TREASON trial. Personally I'd be happy he rotted in a cell along with all the parties who forged his ascension to the White House.
Fast & Furious began in 2009, the program under Bush is not the same one Goober.

Need to go back to Civics 101, dear. The Constitution was designed to be difficult to alter. House and Senate agreement is only the first step. And the must jointly approved with a two-thirds majority. Following that the amendment must be ratified by 3/4 of the states--either their legislatures or specially-called ratifying conventions. Typically a timeline for approval is set out, most recently about 7 years. Despite thousands of opportunities--or proposed amendments--only 33 have ever been approved by Congress. Of these, only 27 were ever ratified--leading off with the Bill of rights.

And the President does not have the power to rewrite the Constitution by Executive Order.

Despite the name change to Fast and Furious, there was similar work being done under George W. Bush. In fact, selling (both legally and illegally) to straw buyers for transport across the border has posed a US security problem when these guns end up in the hands of various drug cartels. I know you will find this hard to comprehend, but the reality is that the folks who are selling those weapons across the border have a good bit of support from one of our country's biggest lobbies--the NRA.

"Arizona taxpayers will have to foot the bill for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's quest for President Barack Obama's birth certificate.
The controversial sheriff's office spent more than $9,600 -- including more than $3,500 in overtime -- to investigate Obama's birth certificate, but the county won't accept a private donation to offset some of the cost.
The county Board of Supervisors on Wednesday rejected $5,000 to cover some of the costs of the so-called Cold Case Posse. The vote was 2-2, with one member abstaining.
Opponents of Arpaio argued against the donation, saying that the sheriff needed to be held accountable for using taxpayer money. "So, what, someone else goes in, say they give him $10,000, they can go investigate their own personal agenda? This is about holding public officials accountable with our taxpayer dollars," said Randy Parraz, an anti-Arpaio activist leading Citizens for a Better Arizona.
A publicly-funded deputy from Arpaio's office went with a volunteer in May to the Hawaii Department of Health to request verification of Obama's birth certificate. A Hawaii deputy attorney general gave them the legal requirements to obtain the document, which are viewable online, and they left the office, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Arpaio claimed he needed the deputy to go on the trip for "security issues.""

Fast & Furious did NOT notify Mexican officials!!!

The Bush administration, as part of Wide Receiver,**notified** the Mexican government when arms and drug smugglers were crossing. When the guns were being walked across the border or when they had been purchased legally, being taken back to Mexico, the Mexican government was notified. At least 1,400 arrests were made as part of Wide Receiver.

As the Board of Supervisors rightly pointed out, law enforcement is not, and ought not to be, a fee for service arrangement. Sheriff Arpaio is a public employee, accountable to the public. He is not free to sell his services to anyone who walks in the door with their own agenda.

It would seem as though we would stand a far better chance of knowing the exact differences if Issa's committee were interested in hearing from those who ran Bush's program as well as subpeonaing Holder for documents.

But then gathering information is not what they are about. They are about challenging the Attorney General.

He said the investigation is important because it focuses a document that appears to be fraudulent, and people are wrongly injecting politics. He has told his team that it doesn’t matter whose name is on the document.

“We are trying to conduct an investigation with zero cost to the taxpayers,” he said.“They refused to take the money. We don’t understand how that helps the taxpayers.”

Zullo said the deputy was needed on the Hawaii trip because as a sworn officer, he was allowed to be armed, while investigators from the Cold Case Posse, as volunteers, were not.

First off, the document does not appear to be fraudulent.

However--even if it did, nothing about that falls in Arpaio's jurisdiction. No fraud is suspected of having been committed in Maricopa County. Nor is Sheriff Arpaio in charge of the elections. In fact, the official who IS responsible for elections recently made a fool of himself by accusing the State of Hawaii of conspiring. And subsequently apologized.

Arpaio is a loose cannon and he is going to trip himself up.

Case # 96-CV099-J, U.S. District Court, District of
Wyoming

Contrary to the general misunderstanding today, neither the individual States nor
the united States are sovereign. Only the people are sovereign. The people delegate
our authority to those in government at all levels to act on our behalf as our
representatives/ public servants.

“This “compound republic” is America’s very unique form of government. We held
in New York that Congress cannot compel the States to enact or enforce a federal
regulatory program. Today we hold that Congress cannot circumvent that prohibition
by conscripting the State’s officers directly. The Federal Government may neither issue
directives requiring the States to address particular problems, nor command the States’
officers, or those of their political subdivisions, to administer or enforce a federal
regulatory program. It matters not whether policy making is involved, and no case by
case weighing of the burdens or benefits is necessary; such commands are fundamentally
incompatible with our constitutional system of dual sovereignty.”
