Just how sick and depraved is our society that any of our young people would want to assault homeless people.

His name is Lenny King. Lenny is a human being. Unfortunately, like most social issues of our time, there are no magic bullets for the Lenny's of our world. I'm encouraged so many of you have given thought to Lenny's plight. At least you're not walking by pretending not to see him.

I read this story the other day and was sick to my stomach! What the hell is wrong with people? Do you have no value of human life? Where the hell are the parents of these teens? If they were my child I'd have them volunteering every weekend in a soup kitchen or shelter to see what life is like for the homeless. The 30 some year old's that were beating this man need a taste of their own medicine. It's sick! To set someone on fire! Why, what type of sick pleasure could you possibly get out of that? It's just sad!

That thought crossed my mind as I read this sad article. Wondered whether or not these were war vets. Nam, Desert Storm, or otherwise. Didn't see it mentioned in the article.

One would think society would place a more severe penalty than community service against those who would physically attack (attempted murder?) against those least able to protect themselves (be it age or mental capacity) just for kicks ala Clockwork Orange.

And if against a disabled war vet, who risk life & limb for the perps' freedoms, the perp should lose every freedom which the victim helped preserve.

I was homeless in Akron. It sucked. It sucks that the only place you can really go is the Haven of Rest, and the whole time I was there I was constantly berated about my religious beliefs.
That being said, while it is good, and should be natural to give alms to the homeless, not all of them are "poor innocent people". Most of them deserve it. I certainly did. If they won't accept help that is offered to them (it's damn hard to do, yes) and won't follow through in the prosecutorial process, than forget them.

If Lenny were a black man, the NAACP and Al Sharpton would be down here so quick, you wouldn't know what hit you. And if Lenny were gay, this would be all over national news about a lynching. This absolutely sickens me to hear about punks like that and their disrespect of other human beings.
