from religiondispatches:

"But the crowd favorite at the DC screening I attended was Bishop Barbara Harris, whose 1989 consecration as the first female bishop in the Anglican Communion also shook up the church. Harris is memorably direct. About the idea that Robinson is the first gay bishop, Harris snorts,'Give me a break.' In response to some of the rhetoric at the bishops' gathering, she says,'if assholes could fly, this place would be an airport.'"

What a lovely sentiment!

She sounds so lady like, a true Christian mouth speaks only in love and in harmony with the Word of God. I am sure the Sundance crowd loved her. And I am sure Schori is gushing with pride at someone so eloquent in Christian speech "in the Anglican Communion." I just bet they are all lovey-dovey.

Tell me joline, in relationship to a Bishop, what does it mean to be holy.

Now, your god Merriam-Webster tell us:

Definition of HOLY
1
: exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness
2
: divine <for the Lord our God is holy — Psalms 99:9(Authorized Version)>
3
: devoted entirely to the deity or the work of the deity <a holy temple> <holy prophets>
4
a : having a divine quality <holy love> b : venerated as or as if sacred <holy scripture> <a holy relic>
5
—used as an intensive <this is a holy mess> <he was a holy terror when he drank — Thomas Wolfe> ; often used in combination as a mild oath <holy smoke>

Now, the only possible application of any of these definitions for a human is #3, as a temple of the Spirit.

Where do you fit in, as something to be worshiped?

Joe,

The bishop, as described in the Letters of St. Paul, should not be either a woman or a polygamist. The Church has also argued that these scriptural passages would also preclude a divorced person.

But, then, the Church proceeded to develop a "celibate" priesthood full of pederasts and homosexual men and women, not that pederasty has anything to do with homosexuality because actually, it does not. But, pederasts do prey on vulnerable male children, a good many of whom are homosexual, thereby propagating the behavior.

The woman bishop quoted in the original article, the subject of this thread, is correct. There have been many homosexual bishops. And certainly, there have been bishops who were and probably some who are pederasts. Most of these, over the centuries and even today, are Roman Catholics. There simply is no question about this. It is a known fact.

The fact that Bishop Gene Robinson is both homosexual and has been through a divorce is also known and brings this whole set of behaviors into the light where everybody has to face it. No wonder that such controversy, even to the point of threatening destruction of a major denomination, has resulted.

But, this is not a bad thing. This is a good thing.

Light, knowledge, truth - these are part and parcel of what Jesus Christ is. These are the very nature of the Holy Spirit. They are the vehicles of spiritual power and the forms through which life and reality exhibit the designs of God in Creation.

Light, knowledge, truth, life, power manifesting in Creation, all of this is the Force of Christ, taught to us by and through the Master, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ lifts up Gene Robinson as a bishop for what purpose?

Gene Robinson comes out as a homosexual and goes through a divorce, eventually taking another homosexual as his life partner for what purpose?

Do you understand, Joe, that the presence of Gene Robinson, duly elected and properly installed as a bishop among bishops, both men and women, in a Church of apostolic succession in the priesthood of Christ Jesus, is a most undeniable affrontery to all of the attempts to hide and obfuscate and rearrange and deny and keep away from being seen and understood as an unmistakeable deviance existing within and right under the noses of all Christian denominations - especially including the Roman Catholic Church?!

You'd better believe that Gene Robinson's selection as a bishop is the work of the Holy Spirit. Because, it most certainly is. His selection establishes, openly, that the reasons for choosing a bishop are far more important in terms of reaching a life of open honesty within oneself in a quest to find a life in communion with God, than are any minor scriptural criteria previously set up for the purpose of creating a facade of propriety.

It is a good thing, Joe. It moves the entire Body of Christ toward an establishment of open honesty and personal integrity. It strips away the traditional superstitions and taboos and institutional hypocrisy and baseless bigotry in favor of a Life of integrity in Christ.

It's more a matter of "in your face"; Robinson has clearly found a home in TEC to push his message of self-indulgence despite the cost to others.

LOL!!!....

Self-indulgence????

Cost to others????

There is no cost to others except the revealing of the superstitions and hypocritical bigotry that has been institutionally taught and promulgated for centuries!

As for any self-indulgence on the part of one such as Rev. Gene Robinson, that is a personal judgment on your part; A judgment that you have no basis for making, other than your personal acceptance of the misconceptions held by the Church.

Ken-

"Most of these,(pederasts) over the centuries and even today, are Roman Catholics. There simply is no question about this. It is a known fact."

Broad statement that you cannot possibly validate, as you aren't privy to the pertinent facts "over the centuries and even today" to make such a "most of these" comment.

As such, it sinks to a gratutitous slam of the Church. Are you unable to argue Joe on merit without issuing broadsides against the Catholic Church?
