I am new in this thread and I like it already. I am also very interested in your Stirling Configuration. Too bad the people you met at OSEO are illiterate on Stirling. I faced the same kind of problem.
Can we meet on February 4th or 5th in the Normandy Motor Meetings? I shall be there. I think we have a lot to talk about. After a long time spent in design and computation.
I've got a real Carnot engine at the end. The first one. It is a low delta T engine.( 30 to 300° deltaT). Simpler than a stirling Engine and easier to built. It is not patented yet. If anyone is interested ??? |

The lastest Carnot engine is described here:

Where does this certainty that the Carnot engine is impracticable?
Carnot himself: In his book "Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire", Carnot describes a mechanically impossible engine. Indeed, the proposed architecture requires a shift from heat sources and not a movement of the working gas. Admit that it has discouraged any attempts to construction. The other reason is just as old: It was taught at the time that this cycle was theoretically impossible, because perfect adiabatic process and perfect isothermal process are impossible to obtain. (Steam heat engines and various Dejust J.(1899)) So, we said that the Carnot engine was impossible to make a scientific dogma. It is clear that want to make a perfect engine is a utopia, it's not what I propose. I propose to carry out the thermodynamic machine the least imperfect and simple. The isothermal perfect does not exist in a Stirling engine, nor perfect regeneration. But this engine exists and that he is the interest continues to grow despite a road littered with dead engines. It is the same for the engine of Ericsson and other hot air engines. Another observation is that most Stirling engines do not meet the cycle they are supposed to describe. Alpha engine, for example move the working gas through the exchanger during isochoric processes. It is an absurdity. It is time to break the dogma " Carnot is a cycle, and can't be an engine" ! Which architecture is the best to describe the Carnot cycle? Let's start by moving the working gas, not the heat sources.(as in the Stirling engine) which blocks is that the Stirling engine needs two space to achieve the isothermal transformations while the Carnot engine requires additional space to make the changes in temperature by the use of isentropic process, this third space is isolated from heat sources . Therefore two displacers are needed to create three separate spaces, these two displacers are used to hide the sources of heat during the adiabatic transformation. Here is the full explanation : http://thecarnotengine.blogspot.com/ Its expected performance that would be obtained with a Stirling engine with a very effective regenerator without dead volume. In other words, the best thermodynamic machine possible. It is also an amazing heat pump efficiency. If you wish, I am ready to help in its realization. Serge Klutchenko. |
