and 5am to 5pm is hardly not having a life. I coach little league, coach midget football, have 2 kids and a wife. have 6 weeks vacation a year. 15 paid holidays and 12 sick days a year. Learn life BOZO.

Whomever this NRG employee is, he is awfully defensive about his job. You really feel the need to defend yourself this much?

This is pathetic! What a great way to display to the world what Dunkirk's all about. We live in a community with an average household income of about $30k a year( according to census) and some of the highest taxes in the nation and we get to come here and read comments from people who are obviously glad to see families potentially fall on hard times.. I guess misery loves company! NRG has clearly stated that all of their employees will have work, it might just mean relocating. Either way its an economic loss to the community.

As you look around it appears the biggest business sector left will be the bar business, that'll thrive for decades to come.

The bar business and working for the City of Dunkirk employees will thrive. Only because the City of Dunkirk employees steal money from the city. Dunkirk will be a ghost town in a couple years.

First off nobody at NRG works 5am-5pm, the operators work 6 to 6 swing shift 3 or 4 days/nights per week. You get 11 paid holidays not 15, if you exceed 3 sick days in rolling year you're over the limit and If you get 6 weeks of vacation you've been there for decades, which isnt the case for most of the staff. No freakin wonder so many people dont like NRG in this community, too many loudmouths bragging about benefits and pay they really dont get.

Ok people! Lets get your facts straight. First!, no one is losing there job, if your smart enough to do math, its easy. But if you need to use your fingers and toes you can. Ok! Try to stay with me here.( i understand some of you are slow) 147 employees at dunkirk, 39 of which are taken from the buffalo Huntley plant. Those 39 people go back to buffalo. Still with me? Ok heres the math part. 147-39= 108. 108 people at dunkirk now. Ok!, now they are going to offer 26 earley retirement packages(maybe a few more) but will stay with 26 so your now confused. Ok! Math again, 108-26=82. 82 is the employment number they want according to information given. Now if the employment number chances in the future, again early retirement packages will most likely be given. Also the numbers change if employees decided to relocate. So there you go simple math for simple minds. If you are still confused!!! Maybe you should have payed more attention in class. Then maybe you could have had a job at NRG also in stead of knocking everyone that works there. NRG is good to its employees. Sounds like they are doing the best they can. Remember huge companies in the pasted just lock there doors with out any notice to the employees. And say thanks for the help.

Ding Dong, You are missing the point. I could care less if Joe Blow loses his job. I care that the local economy WILL be losing jobs. According to your math the City will be losing (or already has) 65 high paying jobs. Those will not be replaced. For the most part, those people are not related and so that is up to 65 families we can say good bye to as well. Those people spend money here and those people own homes in the region. I
