Check out www.dsireusa.org to see what incentives are available from your utility, State and Federal Governments. The Federal residential renewable energy tax credit is available till 12/31/2016 and will allow one to get 30% of the installed cost of a solar system back as a Federal tax credit. On a 30K system that's 9K. Then there are credits for RECs from the utility. At the State level there is a tax exemption on property taxes when solar PV or hot water is installed on one's home.
