York City Police: Parents hid 5 children from the world

I lived a block from them during that whole time and never even knew anyone lived there. WOW.I went past there all the time and never saw any signs of anyone.They had neighbors I wonder why they never reported anything. OMG that is just creepy. What is wrong with people? And to use religion as the reason is sad. There are so many resources this family could have taken advantage of. SMH

It sounds like the family was simply homeless, this seems to be a condition of a lot of folks these days. Why arrest these people and not help them. Shame on America that in this land of everything , we have such poverty.

homeless?? we have several different programs to keep u from becoming homeless especially someone with kids. This is what our tax dollars are for. public welfare. there is NO EXCUSE on the planet for poor parenting. Those children have a long road ahead. keep them in your prayers.

This story is very well written as compared to the story in the YDR.

Some items I do not understand - If they knew someone was living in a home without utilities why did they not contact the fire company to condemn the property right away and force the occupants to leave?

Was the "mother" receiving any type of governement assistance?

Why didn't the police and caseworker have a search warrant the first time they return to the property?

Why is this story coming to light now and not a year ago when they were arrested?

My suspicions tell me that if there was evidence of a crack pipe behind that door they would have no problems breaking it down. But the well fare of 5 children doesn't warrant such force. What is wrong with this picture?

the system in place here is insane...if there would of been a parking ticket involved they would of broke down the door........just show how government is such a mess and the law works in mysterious ways.......

My boyfriend and I were just discussing this story and we're wondering if blood tests will be done to determine if the children are really Johnson & Bowers biological children? It seems odd that there are no birth certificates, no school records. Are these abducted children?

"We just can't break down the door." Are you kidding me?? The system is soooooo broken. Is there a way we can help these children? Clothing, donations, anything?? I am sure a lot of people want to help!

If they don't have records, maybe they are kidnapped from another state?? Maybe they are another Elizabeth Smart case?

Can someone tell me why it CYS took six years to notify York police that there was a report of children living in squallor in the city???
Oh yeah, and why is this delightful pair just facing arraignment Dec. 3, 2010 when the children were found (thank God) more than 15 months ago???

the parents forlack of a better word should be charged w everything the court can hit them with i am a single mom and there is no reason to make or allow children in that kind of enviroment. hell if nothing else hand the children to a nurse at hospital and walk away better to give those baby's up to the state than have them living like that what in the world is wrong with those two please never give those children back to them they are not even fit to raise junk yard dogs
