FLVS Student wrote: I have been a student of FLVS for 4 years full time. I have been able to travel, take cooking lessons, Learn CPR, volunteer, all because I did not have to be tied to school from 7am till 2pm. I have been able to do every subject with honors and my lowest grade ever was a 91 (algebra). I would like to point out that I do the same exact work at home on my computer that my friends at school. But at school the teacher is having to get onto a student or teach FCAT and the work that was for "school" now becomes homework, I don't have that problem. My couse is set out for me x amount of work and that is it. No extra stay up till midnight homework in every subject. So I have way more free time than my peers. That allows me to be part of a competive dance team. Now the rules are a homeschooler or FLVS student can participate in thier local school activities so I am also on the school dance team. I sometimes do not like FLVS as I don't get Lunch with my peers and I don't get. To set in class and get caught for talking or texting.... But I also don't get FCAT preached to me (which I still take and pass) I still have friends, I'm on the school dance team and go to all the games, and I have a boyfriend. So it's a good trade off! For anyone concerned that PE can not be taught online, please go to the FLVS website and look at PE work. Also look at the kids in school who take PE. Not all of them are healthy either. Maybe if they did not have to come home and do homework till midnight maybe they would have time to got outside and just be kids and play! My question is... Why do you send your child to a Florida school just to learn FCAT? That is all the teachers teach. FCAT does not make you healthy. FCAT does teach you grow your own food or how to sew on a button or how to focus a telescope to view outerspace or how to cook your food or how to do laundry or change a tire or even how to actually write. Ok I passed the FCAT so what? That will not help me in the real world. Fail FCAT and I repeat my grade (FCAT training) again. But where does the real world come in? Where does basic living/social/job skills come in? I think with the peer presure, FCAT pressure, loss of teacher control in classrooms, got to get good grades to get into college pressure, more parents should look into FLVS. FLVS drug/alcohol free, FCAT stress free, no bullies, no guns, not teacher/student ratio problem, and you have time at home to learn to cook, clean, type, organize, time management, ect Thanks for this comment, very helpful.

Broward Teacher wrote: I recently applied for a position with FLVS, the application was online and took an extensive amount of time. Does anyone out there know how competitive these positions are? Do 10's, 100's, or 1000's apply? I am just curious about my chances and if anyone will even look at my application. Did you ever get the job? If so, how's it going? I just applied for a position.
