But yet you stood firm behind previous ELCO School Board members and the ridiculous reasons for closing two of the older elementary schools in the district. Grade reconfiguration wasn't an option.
Schaefferstown or Myerstown couldn't be used for K-2 and all day Kindergarten because it would have been such a huge expense to have the buildings wired for the latest and greatest hi-technology.

As a parent, who are you supposed to believe when the proclaimed "experts" talk out of both sides of their mouths and mostly out of their behinds. Use your own brain. You can't actually believe a child is going to learn the social skills or speaking skills sitting behind a computer screen all day. If you want have kids left behind while hiding them in their houses. This is the way.

I agree this should be for those that are mentioned in the above article, but it should not be for just the normal everyday kid who is just to lazy to get up in the morning to go to school. You didn't even mention how teachers and school nurses watch out for things like abuse, children not being fed properly, sickness and hands on proper hygiene skills. These cyber schools will remove a layer of protection afforded to our children that will be very harmful to our children and our society.

We enrolled our 1st grade son this year after a year of home schooling. All I can say, is that it has been the best possible choice for us. My son is gifted and the public school does not offer gifted classes until 3rd grade. My son is also taking Sign Language and Spanish which are not offered in the public school at his level. He is involved in chess club and science club. The fact is that the public schools, which are failing, need some competition. Byler acts like it is the cyber-charter schools who want money, but really the public schools complaint is loss of revenue for them. If Byler wants my kid in his school then he needs a school that out-performs the cyber schools.

All that Senator Piccola cares about is satisfying [a] the tax-averse business lobby and [b] wealthy parents who want to diivert public money to fund their kids' private and parochial school tuition.

Here's a thought... why don't we as parents let each one do whats right for there OWN child and mind your business! Gosh it's no wonder children are so agressive these day's... just reading these posts and it just shows that we as adults need to be schooled on manners and the proper ways to treat and speak to each other...

You are right on the nose with your response. What I don't like is how the school district officials criticize the parents for making the choices that are best suited for their OWN children and do it in a condescending manner. Like I said, I agree with you but I have witnessed how condescending some of the school officials can be and I find that most of the time it's the officials that put the parents on the defense. It's not productive, yet it continues and our kids get caught in the middle of all of it. It's horrible.

In fact, if you're not happy with the public school in your district, you can pay tuition to have your child attend any public school, but there's no gurantee, your child will be admitted. It must be approved by the districts school board. The issue that lies within the article is that this man expected that his child would be accepted to this particular "Private" school because he graduated from there and he obviously thought he could insure his childs acceptance, by giving the school a hefty contribution. The old man is PO'd because he buy his kids way into this particular school. That's not what we're talking about here.

According to our state auditor general office, private owners of charter schools have unlimited earnings with the backing of public taxpayer money with absolutely no oversight or limits in earnings.
