WNC schools see unease over corporal punishment

I am a parent of a child in McDowell County and had to In writing revoke the school right to paddle him. He was getting paddled for stupid things, I do admit when he hit another child he did deserve to be in trouble.

You sound like a model parent. Where is his baby daddy? He should be disciplining him.

The thing is, if you were to discipline your child with a belt or switch and that child went to school with a mark DSS would be out to see you that afternoon. If the school (in the incident at the alternative school) whips them and leaves a mark DSS won't be there to investigate them. You'll have to have your child seen by the Dr. and file a summons at the magistrates office and even then all the sheriff would ask the teacher is : "were you angry at the child when you paddled them?"

With a mark? Hell, only thing a kid has to say is that they are abused at home without a mark on them and the DSS will show up. Had my father's wife daughter do it to me. Found out she lied of course. Still pizzed me off though.

This is for sure a sad time that we live in when you can even whip your kids. I got my backside lit up several time and probably deserved most of them and I turned out okay. I do understand there is a difference in whipping and a beating. Those parents who beat their kids need to be took out behind the wood shed with someone their own size and try to beat them.

Sounds like you got a discipline problem on your hands. This was 4 years ago. It would be interesting to know how he has turned out since you have let him get away with things. I bet you have your hands full.

Except for barbaric neanderthals like you, people with good parenting skills do not hit their children because corporal punishment teaches children that hitting people and physical violence are OK. There are bountiful ways to discipline children and bring them up as good citizens without hitting them.

Very few people in the town possess parenting skills! Their skills amount to screaming at their kids and never being consistent in their discipline! I have seen it time and time again. Children want and need structure in their lives. If a child is spanked it does not hurt them it actually teaches them that their are consequences to their actions. No child should be beaten. Parents who don't use limited corporal punishment end up with problems on their hands.

I can't believe to what extent the liberal press will go to! If people want to whip their kids they should be able to! I say keep your laws off me! It is about respect! I'm voting for the republic party this time! They will get government out of our personal lives! The local representative told me that he wants to do away with social services. That is what we need! I need to be able to raise my kids by the rod if I need to! Keep your democratic ass out of my business!

From my experience living in this backwater county most parents dont know shit about raising proper children. This entire county is full of inbreed racist ignorant bastards.
