With a budget surplus approaching $9 million, the once underfinanced Roosevelt school district finds itself in the enviable position of proposing major new spending on student services next year but only a ...

If they are getting this much why are taxes still going up. Also, the state had better monitor this money b/c you can bet your bottom dollar that the students are not going to get it. More raises for the administrators. More fun for them.

You cannot solve Roosevelt's problems by throwing money at them. The single moms that proliferate in that sever spawn thugs who have no interest in an education.

I grew up in Roosevelt. Waste of money. A good education starts with the parents. The problem is the parents are *hit. Thats why we moved to a good minority neighborhood upstate. LI is white or slums for the minorities.

Are they kidding? We're facing a looming recession and have been reading about widespread school district corruption at every level on a daily basis and they're proposing a $9 million budget hike? It's time to start holding these school board trustees and administrators responsible for controlling their spending and cutting costs rather than continuing to inflate their budgets year after year. When I'm running low on funds, I prioritize. It's time for school districts to start doing the same.

"Superintendent Robert-Wayne Harris, who took over the district in October, said he was shocked during a tour of Roosevelt High School to find no violins or cellos in usable condition."

Great...Let him donate some of his six figure salary toward buying new music department equipment. He should ask the other superintendants raping the system to do the same. Perhaps he should start giving back to the community that pays his extravagant salary, family's health benefits and contributions to his state pension.

Hopefully, they can help these children who have no guidance from their ghetto parents, how to act like civilized humans instead of savage animals who rob and steal and use rappers as role models. Make sure they eat good breakfasts too, everday I pass Uniondale HS and see young blacks eating doritos and grape soda at 8am.
Doritos and Grape soda is a GOOD breakfast in that area. Doritos are made from corn (vegetable) and grape soda is made from a fruit.

What is wrong with fruits and vegetables for breakfast.

Oh, and another thing, the best place to eat breakfast IS the bus stop. You can eat with your family and also be united with other community members at the same time.

The above situations are the BEST case scenarios, I just don't know why the kids in that area don't amount to much. It MUST be the teachers fault because OBVIOUSLY the parent(s) are doing their part.

Oh good, so the 23% increase in spending is only like a 4% increase in taxes because the state is giving them money.... uh, wait a minute. I am also the state! That's not only my money going to my school district, that's my money being given to hold down local taxes in Roosevelt where no one cares about an education! WTF?

The Roosevelt School District owes millions of Dollars to it's teachers.

It is a joke to think that the Roosevelt District is on the improve (financially)

The district has been illegally not reimbursing teachers the withheld pay they are owed.

In September the Teachers were due a pay increase and it was not given until January.

The district has been purposely unclear as to when they are going to give the lost funds back to the teachers

The superintendent keeps claiming "poverty".... but are now with a surplus and looking to hire new teachers without paying the experienced professionals. When the State brings in another "winner" in a few years to cut spending then these new employees will be let go.

Why is none of this being reported

Speaking of Uniondale I just received my school budget notice. Spending is going up $7 mil (4.74%) but if the budget gets shot down spending will increase $6.6 mil (4.49%). Where's the choice for the voters? It ain't there, Spanky.

The single-family houses near me jammed with illegal little ones from multiple families that don't speak English are estatic.

You come back to work in Sept after a nice 3 months off and then start bitching that your pay raise takes 3 months to go through.
And you expect us to feel sorry for you! Why don't you just take a year off with pay to figure this out...

Come on! We want the money to supplement our meager retirement plans, our paid health insurance for life, and because we have long summers off and need the cash to buy expensive cars and travel to exotic locations, or to our summer homes upstate.

That is hardly money down the rathole.

Those who can, do.

Those who can't, teach.

(Plus, some people have work ethics and want full time jobs.)

Just to prove you wrong, a kid that grew up in that area is Governor of New York State!!! So your theory of not amounting to nothing amounts to nothing!!
