Is this really a newsworthy story? Seems like it's just another typical day in York City (or any city for that matter) school system.

The story is newsworthy because the Lindbergh Education Center was recently renovated by the YCSD for 4.8 million and is supposedly being geared up to reclaim all of the 100 some students with behavioral issues that York City had been sending out to private providers. It does not seem like the YCSD is able to handle this particular student and rather than sending him an alternative school or addressing this childs anger issues and trying to help them, counseling that the district would need to pay for, in this instance they seem to have decided to give up on this student and enter them into the criminal justice system. If you search the internet for York City School District Lindbergh Education Center you will find an article that should explain the relevance of this story.

The student should be held responsible for fixing his mistake...but do not name call. These children come to school with more baggage then you could have handled when you were in school. So before you begin name calling, take one day and spend it in that students life. Very rude.

The Lindbergh Education Center is a joke. Yuo can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig. The system is not able to address the issues these students come to school with, especially when they try to do it with the staff they have. The relatively new, young and dare'st I say white female staff is not equipped to even understand the severity of those issues, let alone deal with them effectively. Someone is going to be seriously hurt before this experiment is all over. Another brilliant idea from Tom Foust, the same guy who spent millions on the Duke Street facility a few years ago to supposedly address the same kids and their issues. He may have some idea regarding finances but he has absolutely no clue when it comes to educating our children in an urban environment.

This is all quite hilarious to me. Until the '60's, students (punks) like this got their a$$e$ drilled with the big broad paddle with the holes in it; remember? Then the psychologists/sociologists decided that these poor childrens self esteem was being shattered. And the progressive parents bought into the program. We'll simply give the children a time out. Only took me ONE smack on the a$$ to shape up; by the way, which I deserved. Did not mention it at home or would have received another...oh yea, I know, you've all heard that same tired old story before. Result: TODAY'S YOUTH! It all starts at home, period. Six hours in school, other eighteen hours, helter skelter. You reap what you sow. Live with it!

You are giving way to much credit to these "private providers.".

I stick up for this kid because I work with these kids. It's easy for everyone to sit around in their pretty houses and point fingers and name call...but when it comes down to it you are so naive to what the world is really like.

Besides the fact...this student showed his emotion with anger and physical force...what is the difference between this kid and the people labeling this kid. One is using physical force and one is using words

Castrate the child before he can breed again. His children will no doubt be just like him! And if he can't behave in the current school system, he belongs in a prison. After so many chances, who cares about his right to anything? It's the nice, normal people we need to worry about who may be injured by this moran.

The difference is the verbal abuse given by people on this forum can be ignored simply by shutting down the computer. The physical threat rendered by the student is one that cannot be ignored especially by those staff who needed to confront the young man. As a society we have swung the pendulum too far in the direction of societal responsibility and the victimization of criminals. For example, as the tragedy at Ft. Hood unfolds the family of the shooter is already putting out the rationale that it was the fellow soldiers who derided the psychologist and therefore caused him to act out violently. I am sorry explaining this young man's conduct away as consistent with our society does not help society but says that violence can rationalized, a sorry mistake!

we threw chairs when we were kids, the punishment was sitting in a small room all day with other chair throwers having fun, taking trips to the bathroom and disrupting every classroom on the way, writing punk rock songs, drawing pictures, and getting lunch brought to us, now shis just all fuhky

I know at least one of the teachers there has 14 years teaching in urban schools. 10 of which were in Baltimore city's most dangerous school. While she is female and white I am sure she is equipped to handle these students.'

So what is YOUR answer to educating these students? From your statement you seem to think a Black Male staff would be a better idea. Let me ask this: Why is there so few Black Male teachers in the country? NCLB and other fed mandates dictate that the districts must hire highly qualified staff. You can only hire those that apply

You're dashing around in several directions at once today because you're gripped by the burning desire to get things done. You're in a tearing hurry, and the problem is that this could make you rather irritable if things don't go the way you want or people don't jump to it. You might also be feeling angry with a friend, even if you can't put your finger on what's wrong.
