you're in Ohio it says .. so how would you know??if you people new these girls you would understand why they got kicked off in the first place. They drink and sleep around with many people and just doing this goes to show that these are their true colors. Dont be mad at the school for the girls acting risque and sexual in their cheerleading uniform. THey sign a contract at the begining of the season to prevent this from happening. It just goes to show they are rebellious, and they deserve the punishment they got. end of story.

hah, jk .. I thought this was in Newberry for some reason?? guess I got it confused with the 8th graders story??
HAHAHAHAH Well, I guess we all know who's daughter didn't make the team now!.. oh wait, I'm sorry, she "did" make it .. I mean names weren't mentioned and I'm sure there was more than one girl that didn't make varsity so ummm how do you know which "mom" they are talking about?? |

I think the punishment is to severe because it was their personal page on the internet. It was not on school time. It was on their time.

Sounds to me like the new cheer coach has a mess to clean up that the old coach left behind! Regardless of who made the squad and who didn't. |

to many rules now days. if somebody gets a speeding ticket they broke the law should they be taking out of school

It is hard for me to believe a mother would say,"They should have taken each girl and specifically look at who they are...."! What knd of message is she sending her daughter.
where are the parents, when it comes to monitoring what their daughters are doing on line? And this quote: "They made 'em sound a lot worse then they really were," is an admission that they are bad. Now the argument is to what degree are they bad? That decision has to go to the schools discretion. Some bad choices were made. No lives were lost. The young ladies (and parents) should learn from this experience, and go on. To do otherwise is not only unproductive, it is teaching the young ladies another bad lession: when you make a mistake, fight the consequences (because of who you are, not what you did)! |

I think schools should punish students for inappropriate pictures posted on students' personal webpages. Even though the webpages are personal, the fact that images of the school can be seen, places the school in a position to be held accountable for the students' negative actions even though the school administration was not aware that these actions were taking place. As a cheerleader, you are suppose to display the pride, character, and integrity of your school not degrade it.

"suspensed".... heh heh heh. WLTX takes the cake when it comes to poor proofreading.

This whole thing is ridiculous...let the girls cheer. I see nothing wrong with the picture that was shown. AND the story states that there was no nudity or sexual activity involved. The mother who turned the girls in is probably just mad because her daughter didn't make the squad!!
Besides....what was a Bart Simpson cut-out doing in the school? Isn't that a little inappropiate itself? |
The girls are representatives of the school, as are members of any team. It isnt the action of taking the pictures that got them punished, it is the posting of them on the very public website that was the mistake. I agree with the suspension. Another comment- Students (especially juniors and seniors) need to be educated on how much the internet can play against them- don't they know that colleges use these pages to determine morale character of applicants these days? It could make or break an acceptance.

funny thing is she made it. she made varistiy. I know them because im definently not the parent but i know them all personally. I go to a different school in the county. You dont have to go to Smithville to learn about the smithville drama and over-dramatic cheerleaders. Which is really really sad in my opinion. |

ANOTHER THING
no one has seen all the pictures. the ones they have shown on the news are absolutly NOTHING. Believe me. |
I am a parent myself. I feel that the punishment is a little too harsh because the pictures weren't inappropriate to that extent. The pictures were on Myspace and there is far worse material from younger students on the site. The parent that turned them in should check out their own child. Why was that parent surfing Myspace anyway?

this ranks right up there with the 13yr old going to jail for yelling..........JUST PLAIN STUPID OVEREACTION that is all to common in todays society. people need to get a realistic grip on what constitutes a punishable offense.

I believe you are correct. You hear many teachers complain about having to be a parent to their students and that it isn't their job. So, why do we have this school going after these honor students because of something they are doing in their private lives? This is completely non of their business. |
I can't possibly form an opinion by looking at one photo, and I don't see how anyone else can either. The story indicated that there was more than one picture. If any of those pictures WERE worthy of getting someone cut from the squad, do you honestly think that a news source would reproduce it here?!

honestly
I think that this is a load of BULL! The school interferes WAY too much with the students' lives in and out of school. Telling someone that u can't post pics of what they consider "inappropriate" in the privacy of their own homes (which by the way is on the computer that THEY pay for)is absolutely ridiculous and SUSPENDING them for the REST of their 8th grade YEAR just crosses the line!! Now, from what I understand, the pictures contain no nudity and caused NO harm of ANY sort to ANYONE. The woman that reported these photos should really wake up and smell the freakin coffee because what she considers "inappropriate" photos are going to be posted ALL over the internet and if she doesn't like to see them, then DON'T LOOK! The photos didn't force her to look at them! I can understand suspending a the girls if they trashed the school or hung the photos up all over the school but for just taking pictures on their OWN computers?! That's just cruel and insane! |
I agree 100%. I was a cheerleader in high school and as a cheerleader you are considered a representative of the school. We got in trouble if we were caught at a party for crying out loud. If you don't want the responsibility, don't go out for the squad. Stay at home and be a loser on myspace |
What the heck??? So what your saying is that...hey let the kids do what they want..it's their myspace page. That's BS!!! Myspace is ridiculous and I can say that as a parent that my kids will NEVER be allowed on myspace. They need to stick to being representatives of the school and kick myspace. |
