It would be a different story if students were intrinsically motivated to dig into great works at home, but work sheets, drill and kill of the basics is an insult to humanity. Student initiated homework is the only way to go. The garbage taught in public schools these days is enough to turn anyone off of learning. i agree. i think the amount of homework given is appropriate for successful learning if a study hall at least 45 minutes long is given. if not, students will have a butt load of homework and half of them will not do it.

I am tired of having no time to read, relax, play on the computer, this comment is part of an essay's research, i have to sometimes stay up to 12 and wake up at 6 to finish work, instead of 8 like usual. I hate homework, and im only in sixth grade...

There is way to much homework, 4 tests in one day is alot to study for and on alot of nights i find myself up till 12 trying to get it all done. Then there is study and it seems like students finally get a break and then they are hit with alot of tests and assignments. If students have alot of homework and assignments this leaves verry little time for test study and marks on tests are not as good as they can be. Sometimes students need a break. I agree on banning homework, or at least reducing it but grades will also drop if students dont study or put in a little effort in class.

Erin wrote: Homework helps me! I'm an eigth grade student, and sometimes when I am sitting there in the lesson, I don't understand it until I do the homework! Everyone says that homework is stressful and blah blah BLAH, but most teachers don't give out butt loads of homework. They don't assign book work most of the time either! Homework only becomes stressful when the student procrastinates and puts if off for a long period of time. Then when they come back to do it, they realize they have little time to do it all. That's when all the stress, pain, and agony starts. It all depends on what kind of student you are. I started 10th grade and its diffrent. 4 tests in one day, 5 journal entries and an essay to do in one night. We dont have study hall and dont get time to do work in class. People stress because they have after school activitys and are up late doing homework and find themselves tired the next day.

1. For all the kids on here who said they hate homework (and trust me, we all know you're children) allow me to let you in on a little secret - everybody hates homework. You're not unique nor are you alone. 2. Homework is necessary, but not in the way it's being implemented. I agree that everyone needs practice, but it's the adaptive difficulty of homework examples that's the problem. I remember learning Trigonometry and Calculus in my Junior and Senior years in High School. We would be assigned, on average, about 15-20 exercises per lesson. 5 of them would be reinforcement of the basic lesson. The rest would be what I politely call "creative" problems that increased in difficulty as they went on. Where is the logic in this? If I'm just learning the equation or the theory, then I have no where near the level of experience required to even think about attempting exercises like this.
The solution is to stick with the spirit of the practice. We should not be trying to be clever with the homework assignments. We should be simply reinforcing the basics and let the more difficult exercises be offered to those students who show a talent for the subject and choose to continue studying it in later years.

I agree with the fact that too much homework is a stress on students. Plus the fact that you might not even have time to study for any tests you might have

homework should be given once in a while but not all the time because their are a and b day classes in highschool which make students stress more worrying about to turn it in on time and not getting a zero, so i think they should give less homework

im in 12th grade and during the years i've been in highschool i have saw the increase of homework we are forced to due and i think we should have homework twice a week because of a and b day and all the homework causes us to stress out a whole lot causing us to fail and make many students drop out before even graduate.
