The No Child Left Behind education law was cast as a symbol of possibility, offering the promise of improved schools for the nation's poor and minority children and better prepared students in a competitive world.Yet after a decade on the books, President George W. Bush's most hyped domestic accomplishment has become a symbol to many of federal ... (more)

Judged: 3 3 3 Wrong. No Child Left Behind was the brainchild of that drunken lout, Teddie Kennedy. Just as the lying Kennedy suckered Reagan into signing the illegal alien amnesty program by promising the enforcement of illegal alien laws, he suckered Bush into signing NCLB. |

Judged: 2 2 2 Great teaching can do all that with a lot of kids. But you can't have great teaching with too many cretins running around who believe the earth is under 10000 years old, that Creationism is testable science, that anyone who fails to accept Jesus will burn in hell forever. It's the irrationality. Also the textbooks in the humanities are awful. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Then why have Parochial schools outperformed Public Ed for DECADES? For that matter, what does Fundamentalism (a small minority within the religious community) have to do with Public Ed's failures If anything, it's Liberalism that has failed We spend three times (in inflation adjusted dollars) as much per student as we did in 1970, have Lib educators pushing graphic "sex ed" and "feelings" and communitarian political viewpoints, and testing results are lower now, than ever |

Judged: 1 1 1 Size of the classrooms, and the ability to turn away students requiring special needs education, or behavioral problems. Public schools are REQUIRED to provide those services by whateve means are necessary, including educating living vegetables until the age of 26. And how successful was abstinence only programs? Or the failure to tell children from an early age, the importance of not being abused by members of their own families? Sex education is vital with scientific facts reqarding pregnancy, diseases, and prevention. FYI: You can still withdraw your child from sex ed if you feel that he/she knows what they need to know. Children are being taught to pass tests..not having a real education of questioning and exploring. That is a direct failure of NCLB. Some children do well on tests, other not so much. For the people who want to homeschool...i just have one question to ask: Would you have your butcher perform brain surgery? The onlyh ones who should be allowed to homeschool, should be CERTIFIED teachers. |

Really? You don't like having clean water? You don't like roads, hospitals, or the huge military industry complex that your state enjoys while sucking money away from other states? You don't like it that your food is free from rodents, mice, and other assorted vermin? What about the meat that you eat, or would you prefer mad cow disease to run rampant? What about the lights or water that is in your home? You like those things? If you think government has failed, then you obviously have no appreciation of what you currently have. Go to somalia and see how it is when government truly fails. They have none. You may not agree with "liberal" policies, but withoiut them, you're a**backward state would still be selling shine, hanging blacks, and living in shacks. Oh wait..you still do. Carry on with your anti-government take, it amuses me. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Oil and food for N. Korea was clinton, meathead. The problem with the economy was and still is the demorat giveaway social programs bankrupting the nation. The Annapolis Conference differed from previous Middle East peace conferences in several respects: This was the first time both sides (Israeli and Palestinian) entered a conference with a common understanding that the final state of Palestinian-Israeli peace will be a two-state solution. This was the first time in several decades that the context of the conference did not include adversarial positions from either the United Nations or the European Union against the Israelis. Going into the conference, the U.N. and E.U. were both largely behind the U.S. effort. Similarly, the importance of the Quartet on the Middle East has been diminished since it was first formed. At the Annapolis Conference, the U.S. played the major mediator role, with the other three members of the original Quartet assuming lower status positions. Protests and boycotts were done by Hamas, Hezbollah, Ayatolla Kamehnei and Nutjob of Iran and Senator Barrack Obama! |

Judged: 1 1 1 Ever since the federal government has interferred in public education, it has declined. Not every child is college material. Not every child is brilliant and gifted. Not every child has a supportive home environment. Dissolve the Department of Education. Let States and the Local Agency take on the responsibility of educating our youth. It is imperative that voters support political candidates who support VOUCHERS for ALL PARENTS. Let parents decide what school their child will attend, be it a public, private, parochial, charter, virtual school. Don't let your child attend an inferior school or be taught by inferior teachers. |

Judged: 1 1 1 The problem with that "concept" is that Parochial schools have LARGER class sizes, don't turn away learning disorders (unless so severe that Public schools wouldn't handle the children, either), and the same goes for behavioral issues. What is being taught in Public school sex ed is becoming a perversion since perverts are running the Dept of Ed. Abstinence ed didn't have as high a failure rate as the current program. And NO, schools are no longer informing parents of sex ed courses. Some are not allowing parental withdrawal, except for religious objection, and some do not allow the curricula out of the classroom. Sex Ed, if taught in biological terms, is one thing, but many districts are "normalizing" what most consider abnormal behavior. NCLB isn't the problem, poor teachers are. When students are actually TAUGHT, then the tests are non-events. And your position that only Certified Teachers should teach Homeschoolers is beyond laughable. Homeschooling vastly outperforms what passes for Public Ed. They perform better at College Entrance exams - at a younger age, need fewer remedial courses (if any), graduate College in less time, and are actively recruited by Colleges and Universities because of that excellence. Even though homeschoolers make up a fractional percentage of the student population, they have won a grossly disproportionate number of accolades, including the national Spelling and geography Bees, Interlochen Music awards, the Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award, & the National Vocabulary Championship. You want homeschoolers to forfeit that for underperforming schools with jaded teachers and school bullies? Get a life! |

Judged: 1 1 1 Virtually everything cited, excepting the Military, are State & local issues. Competition, not regulation, promotes quality of life. Richer societies can afford to demand better. Massive government ONLY needs regulations because so much in the way of resources is sucked out of the Private sector. |

Judged: 1 1 1 I love how you intellectuals make snap assessments based on an ISP location. You're always so puffed up with yourselves, and so freaking wrong. Got news for you sunshine... I was eating safe meat and drinking clean water 65 years ago. No worry about mad cow disease, salmonella or e. coli in our food and we let raw meat set out for hours to thaw. There were no bugs in our vegetables, no mice droppings in our flour and oats, no artificial colors and no chemicals. When we rounded up our chicken eggs, it may have been a week before they made it to the refrigerator. We drank milk straight from the cow too, with no ill effects. So, you go ahead, Skippy..... tell me how much better off I am with your liberal government safeguards. |

Bulls**..parochial schools have between 15-20 students max..and they do turn away those with behavoral and special needs. Homosexual behavior isn't abnormal, in fact its well documented in the animal kingdom as well. Funny how most of the politicans that came out were in bearded relationships with children, because yhou so called "christians" don't practice what you preach. Perverts are the folks like warren jeffs who rape little 10 and 12 year old girls and the men who go along with raping what could be their grandchildren or great=grand. Those are perverts. How many homeschool children have succesffuly completed college education? Come on..give the numbers. Most of the home school children don't know the first thing because they are taught ignorance. Your so called statistics are indeed laughable. But go ahead and keep spouting off the propoganda of the fools who are truly the precusers of the dumbing down of american children. |

Parochial schools are largely Catholic in this country, not fundie. While fundie-cretin schools might not be ubiquitous - especially in better educated blue states - public schools do face a lot of pressure from anti rational, fundie parents. As in the Dover legal case determining, eventually, that Cretinism [sic] is not science. But it's mostly a tipping point phenomenon: Too many ignorant, anti rational people in the society as a whole and you by definition will get poor schooling. That goes for xstain mullahs who overtly or subtly believe all those who don't accept Jesus as Lord will burn in hell for eternity. Scary. |
