It involves a barbers shop in Norwich that has applied for permission to open a topless barbers. There has been uproar locally it seems, however the interesting thing about the story is that in the application it does not state whether the staff to be topless are women or men or both. Everyone presumes women, or both, but what has emerged is that it may just be the male staff, in which case why would there be a fuss, and any need to get anyone's permission for it. Since when did men need to get a licence from the local council to not wear anything on top at work? Discuss. Cyril i can get you medical help you need it posting as a woman called Katie. You either need medical help or a long prison sentence.

Coyote hello there, the funny thing about the story of the outcry over a topless barbers/hairdressers asking for permission to do business in that way was first that they even had to get it, and second that the outcry took place before anyone knew whether it was male or females that would be doing the topless cutting of hair! I mean why would it be an issue for men doing so? It turns out that it may well have been only a male topless establishment and so surely no permission should be needed and secondly if it proves to be the case then surely any outcry will vanish? In my view I thought we had equal opportunity employment laws nowadays so if the women wish to attire like a man then they should be enabled otherwise it's a kind of discrimination. I say that only slightly light heartedly too.

4 sure-- in Canada the females can be legally topless anywhere a male is permitted to remove his shirt. It would seem that would also be the case in UK but maybe not- it was a feminist effort but for once there was minimal outcry from males and the main hassle is from other women- oh well- life goes on !!

I believe that you have mentioned this before sometime ago and if I read this as you have put it, does this mean for example that if you go to any swimming pool in Canada where men will be quite obviously without any top, then the women have equal rights to do so? Somehow I bet that most keep to the normal way of things, or am I wrong? The trouble I have with what you have said is that it raises questions of where the line is drawn. I mean, males of any age can go and take a summer walk shirt off through a public park if they want to, and a winter walk if they are really eccentric and brave, but by this definition what you have said means that any woman could do likewise and I simply find that hard to believe in reality. Also, what about the gym? If men are allowed in the gym to run bare chests on a running treadmill, then that means the women at the same gym could do so too. I'd believe that if I saw it! What you said sounds easy and fair but not when you unpick it a bit.

wherever males can go shirtless in public the ladies have equal rights. Re school gyms- I suspect the females have to be age of majority. This law came to pass a few years ago over an incident involving girl named Gwen Jacobs who was taking a topless stroll down the sidewalk on a very hot day and when she was arraigned the gov't stepped in and decided equality is in order. We read of females being hassled for breast feeding in public but I doubt that happens in this country as it seems quite common. At one time it was easy to identify cndn and USA girls at so. beaches but no longer the cndn girls. Things are always changing !!
