Does not allow students to be individuals, instead uniforms demand conformity, rather then individualism and creativeness.

LOL -

I'd add that uniforms restrict the teaching of materialism. And, perhaps even worse, they might even put at risk the elements of total disrespect that are so important to the educational experience.

Hey - I assumed you were being sarcastic. Clothing choice gets used to show group membership, not individuality, doesn't it?

I guess you could say that if everyone wore the same outfit, but wouldn't that be just like wearing uniforms? LOL!

I have been to both a school with a uniform and without - and frankly uniforms are overrated. There is still bullying at any school, and in a way, more at schools that require uniforms. Bullies look harder to find things to make fun of making them more judgemental. The division between schools is enhanced so kids don't mix with students beyond their school doors.

any ideas?
i understand uniforms benfit some, but what about those who live off individuality?
well just comment in responce to this one :).
thanks,
kelly
Well, I can't be individual, its just to fund money on the school, I think, we should ATLEAST, meet half way, like mabie high heals can't be past a certain height, I understand that's saftey , though if think about it, uniforms where used by the natsis, and there used by prisoners, I think that we should beable to look how we want, there takeing away our individuality and self identity, allso, I think its a just a way to get more money from the parents, teachers are going over board with the rules, there was a collage study there they hired actors to dress up like cops and prisoners, THE COPS ENED UP BASHING UP THE PRISONERS, its a way of degradeing students, I think insted of degradeing students, they should work with students, obviously there whole degradeing thing isn't working...

Fact: In life, you must sometimes wear clothing you may not want.
Wearing a school uniform can be seen as preparation for real life.If you're a teenager looking for a job, most of the time it'll be at a place where you'll have to wear a uniform. For example: at a movie theater buying or collecting tickets,or at the concession stand; fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King,etc...; salesperson in places like Target,Wal-mart,Blockbuster, etc...Once out of school, depending on your job, you might have to wear a uniform.Jobs in the business world don't require a uniform per se, but do require a suit to be worn. This is also the case in the field of law.Show up to court in casual street clothes to argue a case and you'll get thrown out. Want to be a doctor?A nurse? EMT?You'll have to wear a uniform.Want to be a Fireman?Policeman? You'll have to wear a uniform.Want to be a pilot? Flight attendant? You'll have to wear a uniform.Even as a janitor, you'll have to wear a uniform.Want to play pro-sports player? That's right, you must wear the uniform.Electricians, plumbers and technicians usually wear uniforms as well.Do I even HAVE to mention the military? Point is, uniforms are a part of life, so kids better get used to them.Rebellious kids will especially have to get used to them, because if they end up in prison, guess what they'll be wearing?

Being against school uniforms because of self expression is a lame excuse, I would even say it's invalid. How do you think people expressed themselves when the fashion industry didn't exist? Did you forget that in the past, people often had perhaps 2 maybe 3 outfits at most? And these outfits looked similar. If kids don't know how to express themselves any other way except through their clothing, you've failed as a parent. And by the way, most kids "expressing" themselves through clothing do so by dressing like everyone else.

Very well written and supported explanation. Thanks for sharing.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Capricorn

You feel like overindulging yourself in some way today, and why not? Throw caution to the wind and eat your way through a big bar of chocolate, or have a retail therapy session that leaves you reeling from the amount of money you've spent. There's a definite chance you could get carried away and tell a whopper of a story that has little resemblance to what really happened. What on earth has got into you?
