My allergist gave me some samples of xyzal for treatment of chronic hives. I've suffered from them for 3 years and have been taking Allegra 180 virtually every day, and supplement that with Claritin. I was going to try the xyzal because my allergist said it's been proven more effective for maintaining chronic hives...until I went on the drug maker's official website and read the potential side effects. Many effects were reported AFTER the drug was put into circulation - including hepatitis, suidical ideations and other devastating physical/psychological side symptoms. I suggest that anyone taking this really research the drug, because it's new to the US and there's a LOT they don't know. Thanks, but I'll be sticking with the Allegra...

Xyzal is simply an isomer of Zyrtec. Just go buy OTC Zyrtec. The patent ran out on Zyrtec so drug company did to the drug what the body does to Zyrtec.

My son was on this crap...and it WAS crap. Made him into a totally different kid...mean, moody, angry. etc.
Didn't make the connection until we finally pulled him off as wasn't stopping allergic reaction anyway...
ANd now all kids and adults can have these wonderful side effects without a prescription.
Check out:
www.askapatient.com and www.medications.com
before you take any new meds...most new "wonder"d drugs have risks that outweigh benefits (in my opinion...sorry.) lipitor, fosamax, zyrtec, requip, etc...

My insurer won't pay for Xyzal. But I was able to get about a month of free samples from Doc. Zyrtec and xyzal give similar results for hives, with xyzal having a little edge in preventing. Had no adverse side affects what so ever.

My SON was PRESCRIBED this CRAP by an ALLERGIST!!
I have spoken to NUMEROUS others who had the same issues with either their children or themselves while on this CRAP.
Apparently you believe that all of us will buy into the FDA approved=totally safe...sorry.
This CRAP was all he was ever on. I do not appreciate you implying otherwise.
WISE UP....READ askapatient.com about this great "wonder drug" and see how many others experienced the same side effects!
GROW UP....GET A CLUE...MAYBE YOU SHOULD STOP TAKING YOUR RITALIN and learn to do some research beyond what the BIG PHARMA rep has handed you on his or her pretty little glossy sheet.
THE BIG PHARMA rep who now takes up so much of all the drs. time hawking their drugs...no better than the traveling salesmen with their snake oils.
Just now the Drs. AND the salesmen benefit $$.

My daughter has been taking this for about 3 months. We decided to take her off it now that the weather has changed and the pollen count is much lower. She hasn't been able to sleep in the past 3 days. She is "wired" and very fiesty. I think it has to be the fact that she is no longer on the medicine. HAs anyone else ever experienced this?

Xyzal has not been shown to be effective in treating children under 12 and can also cause adverse effects such as nose bleed. Children should remain on the 1-gen classical antihistimines, they will cause sedation but they are the only ones proven to effectivly treat minors.

I would try OxyHives, it was developed by homeopathy experts to help relieve multiple symptoms of hives. OxyHives is a safe, all natural solution that will not make you drowsy or cause other negative side effects.

My 12 year old daughter has suffered from severe seasonal allergies for several years that were debilatating. Her school work was effected and she was absolutely miserable every year from April to June. Severe sneezing, congestion, burning eyes-imagine a sever cold that goes on for months. We had tried all the medications- claritan, allegra, zrtec-nothing did anything for her but take a bit of the edge off. She was still miserable. We took her to a different Specialist this year who put her on Xyzal. She also uses Nasonex spray and Pataday eyedrops. She has been on it for about a month now and it has been wonderful for her. It has given her her life back. It's wonderful to see her not have to suffer- She can be outside, go horseback riding, concentrate in school. We have not experienced any negative side effects so far. I also don't like to see kids (or anyone) take a lot of medications but her symptoms were so severe I didn't feel we had a choice . As our allergist explained- each person is different- what works for one person may not work for another and may cause negative side effects in another. I just don't want someone reading the anti-Xyzal posts above to automatically assume that it would not help them or their child. I recognize that several of the people had bad experiences with the medication but for us it has made such a difference for my daughter and ended her suffering.

My pediatrician has offered me free samples of Xyzal for quite awhile but I never gave it to my kids until recently. I never liked what I read on-line about it, but the last time I had my son in the doc gave me more samples and said to try it for my 11-1/2 year old son's congestion that was either being caused by allergies or cold symptoms. He took it for two nights. skipped a night, and then the next day at school had an enormous nose bleed. He said he had blood all over his arms and face by the time he got to the nurse. Mind you it's June and has been raining for days, hence high humidity. He shouldn't have had a nose bleed. He has no history of nose bleeds. One of the side effects of Xyzal is nose bleeds. I won't be using this again. It is always adviseable to be aware of the side effects of any medication you take. I wasn't even aware of the suicidal side effects. That's very scary.

This drug has been great for hive flare-ups (i.e., I get hives when I work out) but has not done anything for my chronic hives. I still get them every morning. I'm on twice the dosage and about to climb to 3X. We'll see if it works... works better than Singulair... GREAT drug for flare-up hives.

I, too, took samples of Xyzal for a few days and didn't even recognize myself! I haven't had any PMS symptoms for years due to hysterectomy, but I felt such blatent RAGE, it was unreal. I spent (wasted) an entire Saturday in such a raw state of fury it was just amazing. I'm scared of this stuff and will trash the rest of my samples posthaste.

I went to an allergist for hives and she gave me some samples of Xyzal. That stuff made me have the worse case of hives I've EVER had in my life. My entire body was pretty much one hive. It was horrible. I've never taken it since that one time.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Sagittarius

After all the excitement of the past few days you're longing for the chance to put your feet up and take life easy for a while. Ideally, you should bury your nose in a good book and be left alone until you resurface for a food transfusion. But you'll also enjoy chatting to someone you know very well and for whom you don't have to make a big effort, such as a close relative.
