I had the same problem with another anti depressant. Have your physician switch you. It will be worth it. i felt better within 2 weeks of switching to wellbutrin.

Thank you Diane for that link. I just went there, and am waiting for them to contact me with answers to my questions...

For anyone planning on just "switching up" your so called "meds"...Take it from an old lady...pills are NOT going to help you. These pills they are feeding you are just fooling you. The chemicals that are out of wack in your brain, are completely different than what you are being given...so these pills are just make believe...they cannot PHYSICALLY do anything for you except screw up your brain even more.
If you are depressed, the only way out of it, is to change your circumstances and change/get rid of, whatever is causing you unhappiness.
If your so called "anti depressant" comes with the side effect that it could make you want to commit suicide...I WOULD SAY THAT IT IS NOT WORKING...."Anti depressant....YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG"....
Just get off of these magic happy pills. Before they destroy your life.

Took Zoloft for 10 years but started having jaw pain and insomnia so I stopped taking it. Actually my dentist had been telling me for several years that I was grinding. The jaw pain resolved when I stopped the Zoloft unless I chew gum. Don't believe Zoloft causes brain injury but the depression is harder to manage with diet and exercise alone. Tried Zoloft again just to be sure and after just 25 mg had jaw pain. Miss the Zoloft but not worth the risk of getting chronic TMJ issues.

Hi Lucy,
I am having extreme discomfort in my jaw since taking zoloft. I did not think it was related because I have been diagnosed with Trigeminal Neurolgia in the past, but that went into remission for a couple of years. I am waiting to take an MRI, but was wondering if your pain is/was chronic and pretty intense. It is even hard for me to talk and is extremely uncomfortable any time I clench my jaw even a little. It is definitely a spasm as you described. Thanks for posting! Any updated information you can offer is so beyond appreciated.

i started zoloft 11 days ago and about 4 days after starting i began having awful tightening/spasming feelings in my jaws which i am still having. dentist thinks i am clenching my teeth in sleep and i have seen some references to this related to ssri's on the internet. has anyone experienced this or know if it's common? i can't find anything about it in the drug literature, and my docs, including a pharmacist who supposedly is expert on the psych drugs, do not seem to think it's the zoloft. to complicate things, i got 3 vaccinations the same day i started it - hepatitis a, flu shot, and tetanus. docs do not think vaccines could have caused the jaw problems either. i'm grateful for any comments!

I have been on zoloft for 11 days now. I am experiencing neck pain. At first I thougt it was a toothache but this morning I relized it was my neck. After taking my morning 25mg pill...no neck pain. So I googled "zoloft neck pain" and sure enough I am not the only one experiencing this sie effect. I am not going to continue taking this medication. Id rather be depressed!!!

definitely! i have the clenching and tooth and tmj pain. i truly believe it's from the sertraline. sometimes i wake at night and can tell i'm clenching so hard it's hard to get my mouth open. my teeth hurt also. i wonder if this isn't like seizure activity. when someone has a seizure they clench their mouth. also, i have incredibly vivid dreams. anyone else?
I know this was two years ago but I'm getting this too. It's more like vivid night mares and I can vatelu move my jaw when I wake up. Did these side effects subside?

I have been taking Zoloft for about 9 years now since the age of fourteen. I suffer from severe tmj and now see a specialist. I find myself constantly clenching without realizing. I get severe headaches because of it and sleep with a mouth guard at night that helps a little. My jaw constantly pops and has locked shut before. I cannot open my mouth very wide anymore because of the damage in my jaw now. I was told the joints in my jaw are so worn down I have the jaw of someone twice my age and I'm only 23. I get 14 injections of botox around my temple and along the jaw line every few months to help relax the muscles in my face to relieve some of the pain. The damage irreversible and have been told by a specialist that Zoloft can cause clenching which has resulted in my tmj. The pain is unbearable sometimes but I don't have many options. I have been on so many different medications.and as of recently I have noticed I have very vivid nightmares and am beginning to clench my hands at night. I take 150 mg of Zoloft. I wish I known this before starting the Zoloft all those years ago.but even now I continue to take it because my depression is so severe I cannot function without it and surprisingly it gives me the least severe side effects of medicines I have taken before. Stop the Zoloft the moment you start experiencing and jaw pain or popping. I hope to prevent everyone from permanently damaging their jaw.

There is no way to stop the clenching.
I haven't taken Zoloft since 1996, and I still have the clenching problem.
I have started losing teeth because of it...
I am almost 50 years old, and the worse thing I ever did to fight my depression was to agree to take those damn happy pills.
Now that I'm older, and have done my research, I find that the chemicals used in these pills, ALL OF THEM, are completely different from what your brain produces.
To the young person who said they wished pot was legal in their state, well, I say, whether it is or not, grow your own, don't tell anyone about it, and use it.
Marijuana is certainly a lot better at helping with "depression" than any man made chemical CRAP some doctor tries to give you.
Remember, doctors have become legal drug pushers, and they get paid kick backs and "bonus's" to get you hooked on that crap.
I have been smoking pot for almost 30 years now...it's never done anything but make me feel better, and ease my anxiety, about WHATEVER. I like to smoke it, but I also make brownies and cookies with it. You use less when you cook with it, as long as you cook with it correctly. There are a lot of recipes on line. Get yourself a good coffee grinder, and grind that shit into a powder then infuse it into butter(but butter in skillet, add pot and saute' it until it is well infused, then add as you would oil or butter in your recipe...)....
Baking brings out a lot more of the THC, so you will only need to eat small portions of your baked good to get the same effect as smoking or vaporizing.
Young people, please take it from an old lady...these fake "drugs" will do nothing for you but hurt you more than you already are. You cannot take a pill to make yourself happy. You MUST do the real work YOURSELF. Change is never easy, sometimes, it's hard as hell. But in the long run, changing your situation, and getting away from all those who DEPRESS you, is the only sure fire cure for depression. Regardless of what the drug company shills, or rather, shrinks/doctors will tell you.
I have no reason to lie to you. I just hate to see a good portion of the young people in this country fucked up from pills.
Blessed Be.

Marie, I would politely tell your doctor that you want to be taken off of the zoloft.
He/she will argue with you and tell you all kind of horror stories about folks who stopped taking their "anti depressants" and how it will just make it worse etc etc....DON'T BELIEVE THEM.
I weened myself off of them...I was taking 150 mg. I cut that dosage in half and took it like that for a week. Then I cut the dosage in half again, and took IT for a week....Keep cutting your dosage in half until you are down to 25mgs a day or less. Then you can stop.
Good luck, and remember that chemicals will not stop depression.
You MUST change the situation that you are in, and get yourself involved in things that make you happy. Stop hanging out with those people who bring you down. And remove yourself from situations that stress you, whether it be a job, or school, or family/friends.
Change is very difficult, but necessary part of life. The lack of accepting change is where a lot of depression comes from.
Do not allow yourself to feel guilt about your decisions for your life. No one else has to live your life, and you are the only one who can make decisions for YOU and YOUR life.
Blessed Be.

Report this to your doctor at the soonest possible time. The website http://www.zoloftlawsuitcenter.net/withdrawal... discusses the warnings on antidepressants causing worsened anxiety among patients. You may want to check this out to learn more about Zoloft.

I am 150mg of zoloft and definitely have jaw clenching. Does any one else have a clicking in their jaw hinge? Sometimes it feels like it is sliding in and out of place.

I had the same problem. My dr put me on it for anxiety through a hard time and I regret ever touching it. I quit taking it because of the clenching and now my speech is messed up. I now talk with a slurr. I advise against ever taking this junk and hate the fact that I let my dr talk me into it. I'm hoping this isn't permanent but seeing that you have been off it for 6 months and its still doing it is not leaving me very hopeful

I posted it on here because it is the truth of my life.
Those pills are nothing but poison.

I don't give a SHIT if you have medical "training" or not. But my life, and my experiences are not CRAP or BULLSHIT.
How dare you.

Zoloft is CRAP, and it DID cause me to have life long problems with jaw clenching, tmj, and the prolonging of my "depression" symptoms. I am STILL to this day losing teeth because of this poison.

Also, you suck, just so you know.
(how much are you getting paid to hit up anti zoloft forums, eh?)

I started Wellbutrin about a month ago and had no side effects until two weeks ago, when I started taking zoloft along with Wellbutrin and .5-1mg of Klonapins per day. I don't take kpins regularly but I do take zoloft every day. Ever since I started it ive noticed a bad jaw ache and pain when I clench my teeth together even lightly. I definitely feel this is from the zoloft. When concentrating on something and in a deep state of mind sometimes I realize I am clenching my jaw tightly. I don't notice this much so I'm assuming this mostly happens at night which is causing the pain. Not sure what makes this effect or what to do about it; hopefully it subsides after a while.
