WHEN I TOLD MY DOCTOR THAT ZOLOFT MADE ME ANXIOUS, HE JUST SMILED AND SAID, "IT'S SUPPOSED TO TREAT ANXIETY." THIS KIND OF DENIAL IS WRONG.

i was on paxil for 7 years for severe panic disorder. during this time i gained 70 lbs. after researching the long term effects and withdrawal symptoms i decided to ween myself off with the help of a doctor. i have been off of paxil for about a year but within the last 4 months my anxiety and panic disorder have returned along with sever depression. my psychatrist has had me try numerous SSRI's and even a Tricyclen but nothing seems to work. i have been on 25mg zoloft for about 5 days now. i see no signs of improvement. i am extremely tired, disconnected and my anxiety is at a 7 or 8 all day. is this normal? does my body just need to adjust to the drug? how long does it take to start working? i'm really scared that nothing is going to work and i'm going to have to go back on paxil. please someone respond, i'm feeling very desperate.
thank you!

Yes, but with millions of people taking zoloft, that is less than a fraction of a percent of people.

To Mandy:

Thanks Mandy. I have been on zoloft for about 5 months now and I am now up to 62.5 mg of the drug and am feeling extremely suicidal and depressed. i spoke to my doctor and he said it's not the drug making me this way, it's my inner demons beating myself up. how long until you found the right dosage? being on 350mg did you gain weight?

I suggest that you see another doctor immediately for a reevaluation of your medication(s).

For any doctor telling you that it's all related to your inner demons is malpractice. I would suggest that you report that doctor to your state licensing board as well.

hey scared and all others on zoloft:
be careful of this med!!!
my ob/gyn prescribed this for me when i was pregnant. i suffer from ocd, and anxiety and panic disorders. i had requested my doc's opinion cause i want to be a good parent. zoloft made me CRAZY!!!! i began taking 25mg/day, and was bumped up to 150mg/day after my baby was born in feb... i suffered from exhausting nightmares almost daily, tired all the time, i still have severe anxiety, ocd and panic attacks! this med did not help me, it only hurt. i stopped taking it a week ago and am feeling and doing much better. i know everyone is different and hopefully this med does help someone...or it should not be on the market.
best wishes, may God be w you!

Hi. I am a 34 yr.old mom of 3 and I take generic Zoloft *sertraline* for about 4-5 months now I think. I take 50 mg per day for 14 days and 100 mg. for 14 days. I take the double dose for PMDD. I also have depression, anxiety and OCD. My question is : If I take my meds every day around 6 am and then take it at 10 am for a couple days would that be the reason I am so easily irritated and suffering PMS-like symptoms over 1 week before I normally have PMS? Also, do you think you can become 'immune' to antidepressants? It seems as if they work for awhile, then not at all? Thanks! Sincerely, Deb in INdiana

Yuliya,
I have to agree with you. I actually was hospitalized from 50mg of sertraline and had never had a panic attack until i had that medication. Now, i have a $5500 bill to be sent to the emergency room with no insurance and i flushed it down the toilet. Why would a medication GIVE you panic attacks when you never had one in your life prior to that?? Does anyone have an answer to that? Since i've been off of it, i've been absolutely fine.

A close friend is suddenly suffering from PTS, Post Traumatic Syndrome. He is 84 years of age and has several other health issues and is on quite a bit of medication. Because of this sudden onset of PTS he was put on Zoloft, 50mg to start off with. He feels better with it however his blood pressure had suddenly become elevated. He is concerned about this because he has also a kidney problem and high blood pressure is known to due harm to kidneys.

That's odd.

I just became prescribed with Zoloft and the VERY first thing that he told me was that there was a definite chance that it might increase my suicidal thoughts and depression, so he gave me the number to the suicide crisis hot line so that I could get an appointment in with a psychiatrist immediately. The pharmacist wrote that down for me as well.
