started for weightloss

I've been on Topamax for 2 weeks. the Dr put me on 25mg.
You might all think that I'm crazy to take this med. for weightloss reasons. But, since I take effexor, I can not take any other diet pill and I have tried every diet in the book, nothing works. I'm 5'4 and weigh 135, I know that it's not a lot, but for someone who is used to weighing 120lbs and looking good in anything it is a big deal. It makes me really upset to look in the mirror. Part of my uncontrolled eating is the effexor. So that surely can not be helped.
So far, I have horrible side effects, I feel spaced out, my brain feels fogy, I cant really sleep at night, my ears are itching from the inside to the point that I have been sucking on my (I forgot what you call the upper part of the mouth, TOPAMAX, lol) that I made my mouth bleed and I have a bruise. But the itching is better now. My only problem is my brain getting really stupid and slow. I'm also experiencing a little heavy breathing, is this normal?

Could I lose weight on 25mg or is this dosage too low? I was thinking to have my dr raise it to 50mg, but I'm wondering if the side effects get worst with time or better?
I've had no appetite at first, but now, I'm started to get it back, so I'm thinking that I'm not willing to be on this med and eat regularly, I know how to eat well without the meds.

I would appreciate to hear anyones story about weightloss from Topamax and getting off of it. Does the weight come back?(due to crazy appetite ofcourse)

I'm 5'3 and I took topamax 100mg every day and in a month and went from 128 to 120. The appetite comes back but even so, my weight doesn't really go below 118. I took it for a total of 3 months but I didn't see much weight loss after the first month so I stopped taking it. It's been a couple weeks off of it and I haven't gained any of it back so all it all, not too shabby. Time to actually exercise now. hahaha! I probably didn't lose as much because I like food too much to starve so yeah.:)

I lost almost 50 lbs in a couple months so I had success.I have kept the weight off too.Keep yourself busy.When you first take it you will feel like crap but that is what made me lose the weight.It will get better after that.I have to really watch what I eat but trust me it works.

what amount of topamax were you on?

50 mg 2x daily and I am also on 200mg of Lamictal with it. I am currently supposed to be on 100mg of Topamax 2x daily but the generic isn't the same as name brand.

what dosage do you find the weight loss to be the best at, i am at 100mg 2 times a day and dont really see much of a loss although the headahes are gone. i would like to increase to 125 or 150 2 times a day

Whats wrong with your people? You need to get severe migraines or epilepsy and take this drug for its real reasons. Then you will realise what real problems are.

i am taking topomax for weight loss alone I am 5'1 and at this point weigh in at 138. Im use to weighing 110. I was dx w/ bipolar one yr ago and gained a lot of weight thru medication trials. I have beent taking topoamx for approx 5 wks . I am up to 100 mgs 3 x day. In the beginning I lost approx 10 pds but now seem to have plateaued w/ my weight loss which is quite disappointing. My question is does anybody find any differance in generic vs brand and lower dose vs higher dose for weight loss alone????(I have gotten through side effects stage)
