I forgot to mention Scotland, AstraZeneca is a Swedish/English company. I placed the following comment attached to their article since both articles(bloomberg and the edinbourgh news) stated the plaintiffs don't have enough proof of injury. Attached comment: "Astrazeneca's Seroquel is NOT safe and effective. I took the medication from 10/2001 to 10/2002 and the drug induced diabetes, with a diabetes complication called hyperglycemia(excessively high blood sugar). The drug(seroquel), by inducing diabetes, also caused a liver disease called NAFLD, which has 4 stages and eventually leads to fatal cirrhosis because of insulin resistance. My lawsuit has no relation or is it filed because of Zyprexa." I also have blood tests done were the baseline sugar was normal in 2001 and around 400 in 2002. My sugars are documeted with my doctor and are permenantly out of control(300,400,500). She wants me on an insulin pump which I have reservations about. I am with bailey perrin and bailey also and assume they have not seen the article from Bloomberg. Any information you have about your lawsuit please contact me. |

562 million dollars is not a lot of money to be shared by 10,0000 people. especially after the attornies take thier 40% and medicaid and medicare get their share of it. i hope that they are suing for a lot more than that. about all i know is what i read over the inter net. i do know the the case id MDL 1769. so anything pertaining to the court case can probably be found using mdl 1769 in the search. i hope the best for us |

I guess you are right, although that number, 562 million, is what "wouldn't harm Astra Zeneca Financially, because it would be a one-off charge." I did a case search using PACER(Electronic Filing) for the middle district of florida, in the complaint it states that "the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000, excluding interest and costs". I don't want to assume this is per plaintiff because if it is the amount becomes 10,000*75,000 +interest+costs which would be in excess of 750 Million. I guess you can't count your chickens before they hatch! I know this is personal, but how severe are your injuries. |

i am insulin dependent. i take meteformin, starlix, and lantus. then you add the cost of testing supplies, and needles. it adds up. the diabettes has also caused changes in my eyes. hopefully i will not go blind from this terrible disease. other then that i haven't had pancreittis, or anything like that.

I'm dependent on insulin also. I take five shots a day, two of Lantus(100 units each) and three of Novolog, sliding scale+4 units. I can't take any diabetes medication because when they did a liver biopsy they found I was having a "toxic reaction". The medications never worked for me. Nothing works, in fact the following is an example of my blood sugars on all that insulin: 2/10/2007 471,295,477 2/11/2007 378,235,261 2/12/2007 172,366,439,431 2/13/2007 332,219,184,378 2/14/2007 289,289,443 2/15/2007 310,384 2/16/2007 415 Thats hyperglcemia and insulin resistance. It's been like that since my doctor ordered me off the seroquel during October of 2002. I take celexa and abilify to handle the schizoaffective disorder. After you mentioned the low numbers I reread the article myself. Seems the lawyers aren't pursuing this the same as Zyprexa. Only people with serious injury are accepted ie:"pancreatitis, diabetes or severe exacerbation of existing diabetes." |

i had heard that about the severity of cases. i dont test my sugar as often as i should but it ranges from 150 or so to around 370. i have a problem with mine dropping sometimes as low as the 50's. after the problems with seroquel and all the news on some of the other medicine i have been prescribed, i have just about quit taking most of it. i don't think its worth it. i have bipolar/ mainly depressed with psychosis. the psychosis isint to often maybe once a year. i was actually prescribed the seroquel to help me go to sleep at night.

My doctor is an endocrinologist and she asked that I take my blood sugar Before each meal and before bed. My sugar never falls that low. I think prescribing seroquel for anything other than schizophrenia, ie. insomnia is an off-label use. Do you have any luck with communicating with Bailey Perrin and Bailey? I know they have 6500 cases, but I have only heard from them once by phone since April 2006. |

I think this stank if you ask me they have a lot of information that link seroquel and zyprexa to diabetes what I like to know what is are gov. going to do to protect are right because if we can't trust the FDA to do the job we as the people of america going to do gov. can't protect us from Drug company.

Nobody knows for sure if Astrazenca will settle, according to the bloomberg article at bloomberg.com "a settlement of as much as $500 million wouldn't harm astrazeneca financially...". Also "Astrazeneca may settle even though it believes the cases have no merit" Seems to me 10,000 people can't be wrong or lie or make up very serious injuries. I figured, perhaps wrong as JBG wrote, based on the filed complaint with U.S. District Court in Florida that the "amount in controversey EXCEEDS $75,000, exluding interest and costs". This seems to me to be per plaintiff. At the time I wrote $562 million there were only 7500 plaintiffs, 7500*75000=562 Million. Now there are 10,000 plaintiffs to exceed 750 Million. This is what the plaintiffs are suing for in damages. AstraZeneca may also run the risk of this(number of plaintiffs) ballooning because diabetes is silent, most people don't know they have it. Everything about diabetes is silent until you get to the future. |

Can't sue City Hall! Ideally you have to protect yourself. I wouldn't sue my doctor because she wasn't warned and there is no way to prove liability. Same with the FDA. Also, regarding the cost of a suit, Zyprexa cost Lilly .90 cents a share! That amount multiplied by the outstanding shares covered 1.2Billion dollars. |

This is the first I've heard of this. I have taken Seroquel for years for anxiety and insomnia. It is especially effective for insomnia. I usually take 100 mgs. nightly, but at times have increased to 200mgs. up to 400mgs. depending on how severe my symptoms get. I am wondering, if I could ask all of you what dosage you have taken to get ill. I have never had my blood sugar tested. Quite frankly, the only doctor I have been to in years is my Shrink, who prescribes it. I avoid them at all costs. However,I really do not feel physically well, and haven't for some time. Not a hypocondriac.
