Can someone please tell me why propecia doesnt warn of depressive side effects?

ive suffered from depression in the past taking prescription drugs so when i take medicines for whatever i make sure to read the side effect section of the booklet to make sure depression isnt one of them, well propecia doesnt mention depression as a side effect at all

ok so ive been on propecia for about 3 weeks now and in the last few days ive felt low as f*ck until today, today ive actually been feeling scared and a whole bunch of BULLSH!T feelings. i swear at times ive felt like crawling into my closet and closing the doors and just sitting in there doing nothing, it will probably make me cope better

for me its no coincidence, my body isnt taking this BS drug well at all...i just did an internet search on this drug and there are lots and lots of people feeling EXACTLY the same feelings as me

so wtf i want to know is how the f@ck can drug companies get away with doing stuff like this? telling people to take this drug because its safe but they forget to mention that its safe for 9/10 people and you might not be one of them

I F*CKING DONT LIKE MY HEAD AND EMOTIONS TO BE PLAYED WITH. IF THERE IS A RISK I WANT TO F*CKING KNOW SO I CAN PREPARE MYSELF OR NOT BUY IT...wait a second, not buy it? but that will lower the government and the billion $ companies profits...cant have that

i swear im feeling so f*cking disgusted at all this sh!t

the governments are all F*CKING WANKERS, they are the biggest criminals. they are F.U.C.K.E.D

lets all worry about make believe terrorists because they are the danger, if it wasnt for evil terrorists, we'd live in a perfect world...crap like that is what the government and the puppet media feed us everyday but they purposely avoid the real problems of todays world because of money and power

all this is b*llshit

i agree, ive been taking propecia since like,'05 and sometimes i just wanna hide in my bed all day, im scared of social interactions that shouldn't scare me. im normally a very outgoing and unshy person. i have a large network of friends and a family that loves me. im sure my depression is chemical and makes complete sense that propecia is to root of it.

i want to see more research in this

I've taken propecia for almost 19 years now and have only a marginally decreased libido and may have decreased ejaculate. (I know because in that time my script has ran out twice, and I noticed some difference). However, I still get in the mood for sex quite regularly and with a full head of hair I'm able to find women that actually want to have sex with me. I think this mood swing stuff is NOT the propecia. It's either some other chemical/external force working on you or it's your mind playing tricks on you.

Some men had sexual side effects on health, such as loss of sexual desire, difficulty achieving erection or a decrease in the amount of sperm.
However, these side effects occurred only at two percent of men. After stopping a medicine side effects disappear.

The Side effects do not ALWAYS DISAPPEAR!!!! My boyfriend of 5 yrs who I had the perfect relationship just walked out on me b/c taking propecia for just two months totally changed him! major Mood swings, no sex drive, severe depression etc. He stopped taking it over 6 months ago and the side effects just kept getting worse. I have been doing a lot of research on this and have found so many men whose lives have been completely ruined by this drug b/c for a lot of these men the side effects DO NOT GO AWAY, I seen men that have been off the drug for years and the side effects still have not gone away or even gone down at all. I've also seen a lot of men who can no longer have children b/c of this drug, men that can't have sex even, this drug is a complete nightmare for a lot of men and the women in their lives! I found a lot of these stories on http://www.askdocweb.com/propecia.html
The people that I'm sure will argue with me should just thank their lucky stars this didn't happen to them and stop disrespecting other peoples pain and suffering which is very very real!

Laura, I'm w/you my husband of 39yrs has been on this for only 1 month & I've seen a drastic change w/ horrible mood swings & a complete lack of sex drive, this really scares me.. this drug should be removed from the market before it destroys more marriages & relationships. I'm sorry for your breakup.

My husband has been on Propecia for 6 months, and his aggression and mood swings have started to become voilent and uncontrollable in the last 4 months. 2 weeks ago he attempted suicide. I am realing from the pain and uncertaincy going on. It has gotten to a point that I cannot live with him, and I know for a fact that he is not the same man that I used to know before he started taking propecia. His emotions are running wild, he is depressed beyond belief and the worst part is he does not believe me when I try to tell him that the Propecia is making him this way!!! He does not want to stop taking the drug; and when he was taken to the hospital by force the Doctor at the hospital said he never heard of Propecia causing depression, and told him to continue to take it. I am at the end of my rope. It is awful to live with him, and at the same time I feel sorry for him and believe he is out of his mind and not his real self, and we are about to lose everything because he is in this deep depression and cannot use judgement anymore.

I have to agree with your assessment of Propecia. The drug does cause depression and mood swings, but these symptoms sometimes take a long time to develop. I have been on the drug for ten years now, and did not suffer from depression or mood swings until about three years ago. At first I thought it was due to something else, but realized that it's the drug after stopping for a couple of months. My depression slowly diminished and my mood stabilized, but I also started to lose hair, so I went back on the drug, and yes, the problems started again. To make matters worse, the hair that was lost during my break never grew back, so I guess you can compare this drug to the Mob. Once your in, you stay in. My recommendation for anyone out there is to not start the drug!! You may see some hair growth, but it will not last forever and you may pay a high price.
Noted side affects
1. Libido loss
2. Weaker erections
3. Reduced semen
4. Watery semen
5. Depression
6. Mood swings (happy, sad, angry, and frustrated)
7. Mid-section fat gain
8. Muscle loss
9. Slow muscle gain
10. Achy joints
11. Fatigue
Most of these can probably contributed to the fact that Propecia increase estrogen in men by depressing dht. DHT competes with estrogen in the body, so when you reduce dht, you end up with higher levels of estrogen. I proved this by measuring my estrogen levels. My level was three times higher then normal. I now take aromatese suppression herbs to try and maintain a normal level, but its now working very well.
It looks like I will have to risk losing my hair and finally stop this bullshit drug!

for one i ordered the pills from the pharmacy http://allbestmeds.info and they do work...so you shouldnt be posting statements if you dont have the facts to back it up. shure it takes like a month to actually get it but it works.... and its the only option if you dont have medical insurance. My first order was delivered in 15 days, the second-in 14 days. By the way, the goods are excellent, they still help me.

I've been on Finasteride since 1998, I have never taken a break from it. Keeping my hair is important to me and this drug works...there's no doubt about that. Unfortunately, over the years I've had all the side effects mentioned about Finasteride. At first the side effects came on gradually. The sexual side effects were the first to be noticed...
* Delayed ejaculation (sometimes it would take so long I'd just give up trying).
* No morning erections, none during the day.
* Not maintaining an erection
* No libido at all
* Whenever i'd manage to ejaculate...it wasn't very good, hardly worth the effort.
* Significantly reduced semen volume.

THEN CAME THE MENTAL SIDE EFFECTS...
* No interest in those things that once gave me pleasure
* Lack of enjoyment from life.
* Mental fog
* Lack of concentration
* Forgetful
* Chronic insomnia

AND LASTLY, CAME THE BODY CHANGES...
* Abdominal fat, that is resistant to exercise and diet.
* Fat gain in the chest area (I've got so much fat in the chest area...that it hurts to jog because they pounce up and down)...I HAVE BEEN SKINNY ALL MY LIFE. And don't like the chances of an incresed risk of male breast cancer because of it.
* Fat around the face

This drug increases hair loss but destroys lives. I'm in Australia and interested in establishing a lawsuit against the pharmaceutical companies for not forewarning us about the side effects of this dangerous drug. May-be we could set up a website to gather numbers. They are out to make MONEY at OUR expense and don't care about the lives they destroy in the process. Our side effects are irreversible and we deserve compensation.

I am in complete agreement about the effects of propecia on mood swings and depression. My brother has been taking propecia for over 2 years now and I have noticed a drastic change in mental health in him. He used to be outgoing and not nervous and now has become depressed, a loner, and on edge all the time. It has become unsafe to live with him. A recent episode, made me realize the dangers of propecia. So he recently lost his job and couldn't afford to buy propecia anymore. However, I decided to give propecia a try and recently started noticing that some of my pills were being stolen. So I had to get a refill and failed to pick it up for a couple of days. He ends up calling CVS finding out when I picked it up and starts ripping thru all my stuff demanding the pills. I tell him no and goes completely berzerk, he tells me he needs them or he'll faint, and a major scuffle ensues and he steals my entire bottle of propecia. After this episode, I refuse to ever take propecia and am now faced with a tough ordeal on how to get him off it and listen to me. I agree with everyone that they should not be able to get away with this and there are actually a large amount of people suffering with this side effect.

Can we not go to a lawyer, show all the people experiencing this side effect, and work with a local college to fund a study on this side effect? Once we observe this side effect, then sue the company for negligence and get it pulled and finally compensated?

I live in Canada and I'm contacting attorney's right now. I advise everyone to pursue legal action. Gather your medical records, the history, write out a time line and work with an attorney. They ARE interested. Find one in your jurisdiction.

I can only disagree. I nearly lost my marriage over this stuff. It has a very powerful moodswing/anger/depression side effect. I didn't work out what was going on with me until i stopped and started propecia and only then noticed the symtoms returning after a few weeks. It nearly destroyed me as a person. I could barely interact at times and felt out of control at other times. I was wary of blaming anything "personality" wise on a pill but it the symptoms all felt so alien to what I'm normally like that I knew something really strange was going on. I was relieved and horrified in equal measure when it dawned on me that it might be propecia and I found other people on the web had had the same thing. Relieved because i thought there was a chance I could get the old me back - even if it meant going bald. Horrified becasue there is no warning about this when you are prescribed it. God knows how many people have flipped out or killed themselves because of this stuff - it's that bad. You may not have had these symptoms but that doesn't mean that the people who have had them are getting it wrong somehow or are misguided. The biochemical balance in people's brains vary and I guess you must be ok. I'm pleased for you but i have to say this was a living nightmare for me that went on for a number of years, nearly killed me and my marriage and I would have avoided entirely if only I'd known. I've been off it for just over a year now and can feel happiness again and be in normal control of myself. While I was on it I was increasingly so emotionally unrecognisable to what I was normally like I really despaired and wondered what on earth had happened to have this all come about. Thank god I worked it out. No thanks to the pharmacist or the company who makes this stuff
