It depends how thick your blood is .. and the brands of Nattokinase vary greatly. Other blood thinners are Vit E (becare careful with this one, esp if you have thin veins, its a stronger blood thinner than youd think) Since I have late stage Lyme Disease and hypercoagulation from it, in addition a heart attack from being undiagnosed with hypercoagulation/thick blood...I take a number of blood thinners in addition to plavix..there are also patient assistance programs that have moderately high income levels in order to qualify and get it free from Bristol Myers.. go to needymeds.com for that. Also, do a search using words natural blood thinners..
Id tell you others, but lyme is preventing me from recalling all of them.
One way to monitor your own blood .. is getting a cheap high school microscoop from ebay .. you can tell how clotted/chained your blood is, compared to happy face floating blood cells...its also very neat .. I just wish I had a higher powered one since I have Lyme and would like to see other than just the blood cells...

ie plavix is not a blood thinner,it is an anti platlet agent, dont confuse this med, with coumadin a well known blood thinner.

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that is experiencing the same problems my husband has. He had a heart attack in Nov. of 08. He had 3 medicated stints put in his heart. Fortunately he had no heart damage. Two weeks ago he had problems again with a blocked artery going to one of his kidneys and had a metal stint put in that. He has been on plavix since the heart attack and has a history of acid reflux. He has had severe stomach pain, dizziness, a little black blood in his stools and cannot seem to control the stomach problems with any of his meds for his stomach. He takes Nexium. Today ended up in the ER for the black stools. They took a blood test and his blood count was OK and no blood in the stools. He was told that he would have to be on plavix for life. What are the alternatives? The doctor told him there was only one other drug that he could go on and he does not want to put him on it because it is a much more potent drug. In the meantime he has no quality of life and the medical bills are piling up, NO HEALTH INSURANCE!
Please help if anyone has experienced the same problem and has gone off of the plavix and on another medication, I would love to know about it.

Hi Judy, I sympathize with you. My husband got hurt on his job and they fired him when they found out he was going to be out of work for a few months. We lost our insurance and could not afford cobra. So now here we are in the shape we are in.
I did find a web site that gives you a discount on your prescription drugs if you are at a certain income level and have no insurance. They have a list of drugs that are covered and there is a list of participating drug stores. You will get 20 to 40% off. My husband gets his plavix for $125.00 but we are considering getting it from a Canadian pharmacy where you can get it online for $48.00 for 100 pills.
Go to this website for a list of discount programs, http://www.needymeds.org/indices/discountcard... . My husband has the Together Rx Access Card.
Also some of the drug manufacturers also have different programs where you can get your scripts for free right from the companies, talk to your doctor about it. You have to meet certain income requirements but it is well worth filling out the paper work if you are eligible. Also don't be ashamed to ask your doctor for samples. Tell him that you cannot afford them. If the doctors office does not have the samples, ask them if they can order them from their sales rep. Don't give up the internet is a very resourceful thing to have, there is all kinds of different things out there but unfortunately some of them you have to be almost homeless before you qualify.
Good luck to you and God Bless!
If I find anything else that I think will help you I will post it on this site.

My dad is on Plavix, aspirin and Coumadin after he had 3 stints put a few weeks ago. He had a heart attack about 4 years ago and had quadruple bypass surgery. He began having shortness of breath and was tired, so they looked around and put in the stints. Unfortunately, now, he feels worse than he did before the stints. We think it's the Plavix. He has a terrible cough, has run a fever, has no energy and can do little for himself now. What is going on?

My name is Boodoo. I had a stent putin my LAD or Left Artery Descending, Now I am on Plavix and Baby Aspirin. I am facing the following side effects. Bleeding when I blow my nose, Stinging and penetrating pain in my joints, Primarily on the Left side but now signs are also on both sides. Showing signs of improper balance when walking for the joint pain. and the 3rd side effect within the last month and a half is decrease in vision, requiring more light to see or do the same thing as before. Bucking up in my house if the light is not on.
I am searching for an alternative medication since I am required to be on Plavix after my stent in my LAD .
If you read this and have any suggestions, please let me know at email roopboodoo@yahoo.com.
Respectfully Boodoo.

Thelma,
I'm probably not as young as you are (62), but I had a heart attack a little better than 2 years ago too. I try to take care of myself too. I don't eat fast food, I eat chicken, fish, fruits, etc. and the doctor told me that it wasn't anything that I did wrong, it was just that I had my mother's genes and that I had to take medication for it. I will pray for you and God will help you. God Bless You.

I am writing about my 79 year old mother. She had a heart attack 3-7-2010 from a blocked graft in her heart. She was stented and became very tired and weak over the following days. I truly believe that the Plavix is making my mom ill and so does she. Mom is going to tell her Cardiologist in 8 days that her insurance doesn't cover Plavix to see what his reaction will be. If he tells her that she should be able to get by with 325mg Asprin then I know that she is better off without it and we will use an alternative and monitor it's affectsw with her primary physcian. No one seems to want to be a TRUE advocate for thier patients anymore and honestly I don't trust Doctors that get kick backs from the pharmaceutical companies.
I would rather see my mom have a week of quality of life than 10 years of a life of misery from a drug that is clearly killing her.

My mother had three stints put in which should have and did make the flow better but oddly enough they put her on five more meds than she had been on. She was completely overmedicated and her body could not throw off the effects of the over medication. ASlso the doses they had her on were way to strong for her. Once they cut her dose of plavix in half daily and stopped several of her new meds completely as well as cutting down the dose of the ones they kept her on she began to return to better health.

How is it OK in the supposedly richest country on the planet that we have so many people who go bankrupt trying to afford their meds?

What is wrong with us that we allow the nutjobs and insurance companies to tell us how socialized medicine would be worse than what we have now? My dad was in the military, I had socialized medicine my whole life--no insurance, no bills--it was just dandy!

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Cancer

You have stars in your eyes and you're in a really romantic mood today. Your idea of heaven is to be with that special person in your life, preferably doing something very nice. If you meet someone new or a relationship gets off the ground today, things will always be rather dreamy and otherworldly between you. It will be as though real life, with all its problems, never intrudes on your time together.
