My doctor just wrote me a prescription for adipex and I took my first one this morning. The dose is 37.5 and I have had an awful headache all day! Is this normal, does this go away or should I break the pill in half? It has definitely cut my appetite but, this headache is the pitts! Any advice?

I started 37.5 mg 3 days ago and this is my 2nd day with a HORRIBLE headache! I wondered if it was just my body getting used to the medication. It definitely has worked as an appetite suppressant but the side effects can be tough. I'm going to hang in there tho - have about 50 lbs to lose. Good luck to everyone!

That is scary. It is good to make sure that you have had a recent check up to be sure that you do not have any blood pressure problems or any other health conditions that could interfere with this medication. When in doubt, always ask your Doctor. I have heard of this medication causing headaches, I have also heard that is depends on the manufacturer too. I have been lucky and have not had that problem, but those that have received the mp273 I think it is???? I hear those are the worst for headaches:(

Agree with Carol above (hi - by the way - runrnrun here)

I always had a headache my first few days on. A couple of tylenol (regular strength) or a few motrin always took care of it. And it did go away.

Definitely drink loads though!

And if you have an issue with your heart or blood pressure - this probably isn't the best way to lose weight.:(

Why would you "Not recommend this pill to anybody" ?

It is common knowledge that no medicines work the same for all people, and its common knowlegde that different people have different side effects.

All of these side effects and dangers are throughly observed and stdied during the years of clinical testing before these medicines get approval, thats why they have the warnings on the box, prescription receipt and so on.

Its terrible that you had a bad reaction, but how much did you first take? I am male, 185 pounds and I was told to first take a half of a 37.5 mg pill, 18.75 mg.......and then to adjust dose as necessary.

I have never been told to take the full therapeutic dose of any medicine during the first week or so, what precautions were you advised to take?

If you are female and weigh under 175, my doctor would have started you on 1/4 pill and had you monitor the effects so that any negative effects would be much more mild and controllable, I really dont understand why people and their doctors just decide to have somebody pop a full strength, potent pharmaceutical into their mouth at the full therapeutic dose and then wonder why they ended up in the hospital. This really is the doctors job to inform you, for the most part.

I just happen to be very uneasy about things like this and have always taken that road...theres a saying I live by "You can always take more medicine but you can never take less"

I wish you good luck in the future and please be careful.

Also, was this prescribed for losing weight, or for excessive drowsiness?? I was prescribed this medicine for excessive drowsiness, it is an Amphetamine amongst other things.
