I've just started Paxil and was curious if anyone's experienced significant side effects with the use of marijuana?
I use it pretty regularly to help with anxiety and it really calms me down.
Anyone with experience please speak up!:)

I just started taking Paxil for panic attacks and I have been smoking weed for years. I noticed that I actually get a little more high than normal but it doesn't last as long. The other night I smoked (possibly too much) and it triggered a panic attack. I wasn't even thinking about anything in particular that would trigger this reaction. I usually need to be pretty stressed out with a lot on my mind to have an attack. I think the weed may have caused this one. That was the only down side about mixing the two, and it only happened once like I said. I would imagine that in this case, less is more. Hope I helped.

The new pot is so strong that i think that all of its undesirables are amplified too....Think about the receptor traffic jam one could have mixing paxil and high grade pot. If you are injured metally....hmmmm....lets see.....ok, yea don't do it more!!! Come on, the whole idea is not to hurt ourselfs. And the panic attacks are from the come down....I don't hate pot, i just think that it needs to be seriuosly readressed, as whatever it is in the 21st century.

Please wait...
Be careful... I took paxil for 11 years while smoking weed everyday. The pot worsened the depression I already had. I was also prescribed clonazepam and wellbutrin( I took those drugs every day, also). By 2007 I ended up in my local hospital's psych wing. Also I could not urinate. I had to use a catheter for 2 weeks. It was not a pleasant experience.

I have been on paxil for awhile now as well as a mood stabilizer. Both times I smoked chronic while on these perscriptions it caused serious panic, anxiety, and a overall sense of worry that I was going to lose it. For me I believe it was the combination of the two that caused these reactions and have decided for me it is not a good idea to smoke weed while on these perscriptions. Let's just say that when these reactions happened it scared the crap out of me.

Strange responses considering weed and Paxil effect different enzymes in the brain. The cannanboid receptors in the brain are not SSRI-mediated and not serotonin-mediated. Marijuana can, however, affect norepinephrine and dopamine, two other neurotransmitters that influence mood. Not all SSRIs are affected equally by marijuana. Paxil and Prozac, for example, have greater inhibitory effects on an enzyme in the liver's P450 system, which metabolizes many drugs. Taking SSRIs could prolong the excretion of marijuana from the body. Taking prescription antidepressants and simultaneously self-medicating with marijuana is not a good idea. And not telling the physician who prescribes your antidepressants that you use marijuana is simply a poor and potentially dangerous decision.

you were probably having heart palpitations.....not anxiety attacks from the weed. it happens to me. weed and energy drinks and stuff that messes with your heart rate cause heart palpitations that seem like anxiety attacks. i have them when i would smoke, so i quit, cus they are shitty and not worth it. now im being prescribed paxil and after reading above i dont think i will be smoking anymore.

I just started on paroxetine, which is a generic version of Paxil. I haven't tried weed while on this drug yet, but I tried a legal synthetic weed called pep pourri/spice/k2. This drug, mixed with the paroxetine, gave me a trip... A bad trip... A seven-hour bad trip. It also gave me serious heart palpations which stopped my breathing. So ever since that awful experience, I'm too scared to start again with weed or anything. I wouldn't recommend it.

I have been taking paxil (20mg) and smoking pot for about seven years. I notice that every time I smoke I have trouble moving around because my muscles ache and become so stiff, especially in my back. When I wake up the next day when the pot is out of my system my body feels normal. I never told my doctor about this because I dont want it to be anywhere in any of my records that I am a habitual pot user. I often worry that by combining the two drugs I be causing neurological problems that I wont be able to recover from

I took paxil for about 8 years then recently started smoking marijuana. At first there was no problem but recently I've had some bad experiences. I think the problem is if the weed is real good or I get too high by smoking too much. I think also, the more you smoke you get immuned and need more to get high but you still have all that THC in your body (even tho you cant feel it, it's still in there doing it's thing) I got so dizzy I threw up from the vertigo. Another time I fainted without warning (it's the only time in my life I ever fainted). I also had heart palpitations, stiff muscles, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, I felt like I was having a stroke. I have to quit one or the other. I think they should only be mixed with extreme caution. I used to have a death wish due to my depression but my last bad trip cured me. If death is anything like that experience, I want to live forever!

Anxiety/hyper+/Paxil,etc... Caution: Use of "Sativa", or "Sativa Dominates" is generally NOT a good idea! Look to "Indica", or "Indica Dominate" hybrids for anti-anxiety effect(s). That said, for anti-depression, some "Sativa" hybrids have remarkable success. REMEMBER: "Google" is your friend!

Anyone with experience please speak up!:) In 2002 I was on paxil for social phobia and I then began to smoke marijuana and I felt great but after a few months I began to think I was the reincarnation of Jesus and my life began to make sense. I haven't smoked in 5 or 6 years now. I am diagnosed now as bipolar with psychotic symptoms (thinking I am the reincarnation of Jesus) and I take zyprexa for that and a little bit of klonopin for anxiety.

I honestly would never take an antidepressant ever again. In my case they put me in a manic phase. Both Paxil and Lexapro put me in manic phases. The anti-anxiety drug clonazepam, though, that I have been on for over two years has really helped me. A Good book that I read was "The Ultra Mind Solution" by Dr. Mark Hyman. The subtitle of the book is "How to fix your broken brain by healing your body first". This book changed my life. I take vitamins and supplements every day now along with my meds and I feel much better. I have also changed my diet somewhat. I try to eat as healthy as I can. I try to cut out artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and fried foods, as well as limiting my beef intake. Organic foods are the best way to go but it is also expensive but I feel better both mentally and physically when I eat healthy.

I like mah drugz n i feel good all de times. NOT. I have been taking paxil for about 9 months now and everytime i got close to them working i would drink alcohol in large amounts and seem as though i went into withdrawl. I have learned mah lesson and am trying to get back into the normal rythem of things but the drugs seem liek they have overpowered my brain. i feel lifeless w/o emotions. I am working on some special concoctions of maple tree root and purried honey bees along with 5mg of paxil. "finger-crossed*

I've been on pail 20mg a day for 10yrs. Must say the only side effects I get when smoking pot is when I take to many hits usually anything beyond three. Or if the weed is really good all it takes is one strong hit. I will get really paranoid. But when I balance my hits to the weed. I'm usually feeling really good. I think the key is taking small hits periodically till u reach your desired high...big hits are no good for me. But that's just me..
