1 if it were only that easy. opiates are not like alcohol where if you drink too much the night before, you can exercise it out. if your serious about quitting, clear out your schedule for the next week and plan on not leaving the house. when/if you stop using the pills, youll be fine for the first 12 to 18 hrs. withdrawls will set in. running nose, joints ache and HURT, vomiting and runny pooping (in some people), sweating, hot and cold flashes, insomnia, so tired you cant sleep, mood swings which are sometimes drastic and are emotional and mental sometimes. for the lenght of time youve been on the pills, you should probably expect some of what i just mentioned. find some xanax if possible or benedryl will substitute. lots of powerade, gaterade or water. just keep pumping fluids to replace what youll lose in the trips to the bathroom and sweating. vitamin b-12, vitamin c and a multivitamin if you cant keep a whole lot in your gut. try to keep you mind occupied with things other than what your going thru. try to shower daily. it helps so you dont feel more crappy than you already do. youll feel the worst for 2-4 days and it gradually gets better. physically anyway. emotionally will be a bit harder. depending how your willpower is and deciding if your an addict or not. so i wont even touch on that yet. this is just some of what ive been through in the past and how i delt with the withdrawls the best i could. i dont know the frequency of your useage or the amount you were taking/doing or why you were on them in the first place. you just asked for some advice. just remember, quitting is easy, its the staying quit is whats hard. keep posting, its what helps me from time to time. oh, welcome to topix! you came to a good place with mostly good people. hope this helps and didnt scare you into not quitting. i just let you know what your in for. for me, it was worth going thru all that. anything worth having is suppose to be hard. post ya later. |

You know how you feel when you have a bad case of the flu, severe body aches....multiple that times 10 and don't plan on getting any sleep at all for the first 3-4 day's and after that it's gonna be only a few hours at a time for the first week or two and depending on how high a dose your on, may be as long as a month or two before you see a real nights sleep......I've kicked opiates more times than i care to remember and cold turkey can be a real helll ride...I highly recommend that you taper off of the roxi's if you have any left that is, gonna take a lot of will power but much easier on the body for sure....Start dropping your dose by breaking them in 1/2 and than in 1/4 until your down to 5 mg a day...And if you can do that over a several weeks all the better, than when you do stop it will be more like a regular case of the flu (symptom wise that is) good luck.. |

All i got to say is kratom. This shit has helped me thru some rough ass timmes. It completly takes away the wd symptoms 4 me physically.
Loveleafgarden herbs ultra enhanced indo only. The rest of the varieties i have to choke down too much. I can take 1 tsp and be good for hrs. This shit really works. Just use it don't abuse it. Don't trade one addiction 4 another! Lata |

This is my 1st 'post' online every, but yours prompts 2 questions -#1 - Does that 1 week withdrawal apply to someone who's taken some form of opiate for pain for the past 13 years? I've heard cold-turkey can kill you.#2 - Why is everyone talking aobut quitting if they're prescribed for actual unbearable pain? After reading these posts, I asked my doc about quitting and the response was 'if they're working, why quit?", you'll probably need them for the rest of your life. I had no response. |

answers to your questions:
#1 Yes, if you have been on an opiate for 13 years you will definately go through withdrawals. No withdrawals alone from am opiate will not kill you, but if you have another condition withdrawals may cause that to kill you. Example..if you already suffer from high blood pressure and you go into withdrawals it may affect your high blood pressure which may in turn cause a fatal stroke. #2 Not everyone on here is trying to quit. Some people suffer from chronic pain and are here for advice regarding their meds. There are times when most of us take more than prescribed and run short at the end of the month and are looking for ways to potentiate our meds. Then there are a lot of people on here that take them for recreational purposes and have ran out or are trying to quit do they are looking for advice. Others think that if they strop taking them for a while that it will lower their tolerence. I myself am a chronic pain patient and like you will be on them for life, but there are times that I get tired of being a slave to these things and think I want to stop taking them......then I start hurting and change my mind, hehe So, welcome to our little family, whatever reason that you are here. Stick around, we could use some new blood. You will quickly figure out who is real and worth talking to and who to ignore. There are some good people on here one you week through the riff-raff. |

Alot of people on this forum are addicts, not pain patients. Maybe they started as pain patients but then have stepped over the line. If you are in pain and need these meds and take them as prescribed your doc may be correct. I have no idea what your issues are but everyone on this board is different.

medman if you are scared from these responses and are dreading the withdrawals there is another way you can go without suffering so much. Suboxone. Not sure if you have heard of it but it is another drug but you will easily be able to get off the oxys and roxys and with the help of a doc or yourself, depending how you choose, taper off the suboxones and you will a lot less withdrawals. Some people call it a miracle drug. check out www.suboxone.com and if it interests you try googling a subxone clinic near you. Just be careful, most like to take cash and they vary in price. But in the long run you will save money and your health. Paying cash and not going through insurance could be a good thing so you are not flagged as an opiate abuser. Just another option to throw out for you if all these symptoms have scared you off.

if you can get help, this is what you need to do! Suboxone will help tremendously. Once stable you need to find atherapist. Together you can figure out an action plan to recovery. This is the route I took and am 8 months sober. I even managed to stop the subs after weening off 2mg at a time. The mental addiction was awful at times yet I was ready because I had a support network in place. You can do this!

I think that is a good basic answer. Definitely lots of details getting to where you got but I agree with your post. People don't realize the mental aspect and the anxiety that hits your body after you quit. You do need the counseling and possible medication to get through it.

i dont know if this helps or not. i use to abuse the 'dones so i wouldnt get sick from W/D quite a few times. but the people i got them from were using them for pain. they had scripts for them. some of the things ive read and know first hand is that they are harder to come off of than the opiates your trying to quit. i guess you could even die if the W/D are bad enough. just what ive heard. dont know if its fact. my advice is try to get on suboxone treatment for starters. not subutex. to easy to abuse. the suboxone will allow you to live life at an acceptable level. you wont have to go thru W/D, so you can concentrate on life. it helped me, along with treatment, to get on with life. hope this somewhat helps. any other questions, ill try to help or somebody else will too. best of luck!! |

I heard they are REALLY tough to come off. Depending why you are using them I would go with suboxone. Dones are cheaper but subs are better. I don't know your pain issues either.
Good luck HM

Hi Courtney: It's been a while because most of what I was reading seemed more about obtaining meds, instead of managing pain but if you're out there, then I'll stick around daily. Monday morning, my doc is going to start me on an extended release because 120mg oxy keeps me upright long enough to work & barely make bills. But, not enough to keep me upright long enough to earn a living and I'm 56, so it's do or die time for me economically. Mine is a great pain mgmnt, he's realized I'm not a 'doc-hopper' so we're going to try some sort of extended release for a week, using these 30mg oxycodones for breakthrough pain. Any advice on extended release since my body obviously tolerates high levels of opiates? |

Does anyone know anything about pain medication called Dilaudid? I Googled & it seems to be just another form of morphine, something I prefer to avoid - I think anyway.
1998 rear-end accident permanently damaged most of my spine & pain is severe, never stops and never will. I'm looking for a life-long plan balancing meds to live my life instead of merely surviving it. Thank you for any feedback. |

hello, have you every looked into the option of fentanyl? ive been on it since august of last year and it helps with my pain quite well. i injured my knees and have permenent nerve damage. kinda feels like when you whack your shins on a trailer hitch. well, that inital pain is what my knees feel like all the time. the fentanyl allows me to have a somewhat productive life. im a concrete finisher and the fentanyl lets me continue to do my job. fentanyl comes in time release patches which you change every three days. it comes in 12.5, 25, 50, 75, and 100mcg/hr patches. i started on 25 mcg patches last auguest and im currently at 75mcg patches. hope this helps with some ideas for options. post ya later. |
