i have been on toprol XL for 2+ years without incident. I switched to Metoprolol (generic) in December 2008; after a couple of days I realized my blood pressure was UP. I switched back to the toprol XL. After the recall, I took the unused metoprolol back to my CVS and was told that it hadn't been recalled but that the ethex factory had closed.
Is the generic version ineffective? defective?
Did the FDA take the generic off the market because it is dangerous? Why is the generic off the market? Could the problem also occur with Toprol XL?

I was on Toprol for 3 years after a bout of pericarditis and had no problems whatsoever. My blood pressure was excellent. I was told it was taken off the market in early March 09 and was given Bisoprolol instead. My BP started rising and my pulse got very low. Can I go back on Toprol and fix this problem?

Toprol has never been off the market. It was the generic Metoprolol Suc, and the manufacturer. There was some kind of problem with compliance with federal procedures. I found the letter online from the Dept of Health to the company. I believe there is another company manufacturing it now. You should be able to get either the toprol or the metoprolol now, depending on your pharmacy and what companies they do business with.

I can recommend a reputable Internet pharmacy http://allbestpills.info
I figured it would be enough to give the pills a try and I was quite satisfied with the result. I hope this info will be of any help to the community.
I was prescribed Metoprolol (Lopressor) 25mg a day about 2 1/12 years ago during a routine visit when I had a blood pressure of 150/90. Since that time my BP has stayed around 115-125/60 something/low 70s. My resting heart rate varies from high 40s to low 60s/min. I also started swimming laps which is off and on again. The medicine seems to work well for me without any noticeable side effects at all. Both my mom and dad had high blood pressure. I'm now in my mid fifties so I guess it's my turn now.
