Orgasm while on methadone....NEED HELP!!!

Hi,
I am a 23 y/o male i have been on meth maintanance for about 3 months now. i am at 70mg a day and i plan on staying here. i had a bad heroin addiction for 2 years which drug me through the mud in everyway possible. the only thing i did manage to keep was my loving girlfriend. anyway my problem is unlike i was on heroin on meth i want to have sex. i really do. but i cannot orgasm no matter how hard i try. she always does which is good for her i guess but feels bad for me and thinks its her fault that i cant. i have searched all over the internet countless times looking for a solution to this problem so i am asking people with experience for an answer...hopefully there is one...are there any people who have had this problem and found something that helps? any techniques? any herbs? medicines? anything? sex was one of the reasons i quit dope cause i wanted to want it and now i do but cant acheive orgasm...please please please anything any suggestion will help...thanks!

Just know that you are NOT the only one with the orgasm/libido type problem...I had the same prob on suboxone and now on methadone ....I did notice an improvement when I was nearly off the suboxone so the mojo CAN come back ....this prob happens to both male and female patients ...I don't have an answer for you but just knowing you're NOT crazy and reassuring your girlfriend that it IS just a side effect nothing to do with relationship may help emotionally at least. Try posting your situation on the "methadone withdrawal -mental and physical problems" thread, it is the most active thread and if you hit the "jump to last post " the ppl will still be active and they might have ideas....they are an intelligent bunch and very willing to help ....see you on the other thread ...hoping for a solution for ya friend.....Storm

I used to have that problem when I would take short acting opiates like Oxycodone and Morphine, I would try and try and after like 3 hours I would just give up, The girl knew what the pills did though because she was taking them too......

What I have heard about it is that opiates/opioids dull pain and dull sensation in your nerves throughout your entire body, not just "down there" and since they "deaden" the nerves it makes it more difficult to achieve an orgasm.

Ever since I have been on methadone I notice I still do have that problem but I find I can achieve an orgasm, it just takes longer, which is okay, take your time, there is no rush, get it all in there cmon guys you all know the ladies love the foreplay!!! With Foreplay comes afterplay (usually, if ya dont fall asleep! LOL!). I actually dont mind the deadened sensation but I think that is only because I have no problem with the orgasm, it just takes longer.

Also, is it always like that (for you)? Or do you feel differently later in the day? I feel relatively the same all the time so I know it can be frustrating because I had the problem in the past with Oxycodone and Morphine and the higher the dose the deader the nerves, so remember that....... I wish ya the best!

Also, Im a young guy too, Im 21 so the age may have something to do with it, Im thinking it may get a little harder as I get older but Im not worrying about it now, Ill cross that bridge when I get to it ya know?

If you got a cool and willing gf like mine then what you need to do is try new things, new positions, anal, lol rough sex sometimes works... would never do anything to hurt my love but hard and fast can get it done but even then sometimez it still doesn't work... anyways I've delt with these same issues and mane it sucks... good luck to u homie

did you ever find a solution? i have been having the same problem; but only recently did it occur to me it might be the methadone.... so, that brought me to the internet to look for solutions....

Usually (not always) libido returns at a dose below about 40 mgs.

I have this exact problem. Did you find anything helps? I am now down to 16mg and still having problems. I'm starting to worry I will never have orgasms the same intensity as before I started with all this shit. UNBELIEVABLY frustrating!

Recent studies show that mathadone plays havoc with both male and female hormones. In fact, it has shown to decrease testosterone in men by up to 50%. You're lucky you can have sex at all.....many can't. Not only is low libido a side effect of this, but loss of muscle and gaining weight in fat is also a common effect of low testosterone, as is depression and lethargy. Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good, since the methadone seems to have a cumulative effect. For many the situation gets worse and worse the longer you're on and some have problems with impotence.

No herbs or pills will help, so don't waste your money. The only thing I can advise is to get your hormone levels checked by a doctor, who will perhaps put you on testosterone therapy. That's really the only option other than lowering your methadone dose significantly or quitting altogether.

Hey TheC !!!

Well you are 100% correct !!! I've been on M for 6 years for chronic pain. First side effect was the constipation---then along came the loss of interest AND ability to have sex. I couldn't even masturbate to orgasm. I'm a male & 2 years ago when I discovered that I lost 2" in height (from 5'9" to 5'7")I asked my doc to write me up for a testosterone blood test. Well, instead of my T level being between 350 & 1,200 units, my level was 18 (YES, eighteen). I now give myself an injection of Testosterone Cypionate DEEP IM with a 1 & 1/2 " needle every week on Thursdays. I also have dropped my total daily dose of methadone from 40 mg daily to 15 mg daily.

The combo of the Testosterone supplement PLUS the dropping my M dose has resulted in roaring hardons all the time PLUS the ability to orgasm successfully. The 6 years of no desire for sex & no ability to orgasm are OVER. And I am NOT a youngster of 21 or 23---I am 61 yo !!!

Good luck to all you guys & gals with sexual problems---have yourself tested hormone wise & see if you can lower your M dose to below 40 mg daily.

It is terribly embarrassing to admit this, but since I DO know how frustrating it is, I will tell you what he's been doing differently, since maybe it will help someone else. I know many of the posts have suggested lowering your dose...I don't know about anybody else, but I am NOT at a point in my treatment where I am looking at LOWERING my dose. So, while I truly appreciate people taking the time to reply, for some of us that is just not an option yet if we want to stay on the right path.

Short of lowering your dose, why don't you go to the doctor and get your hormone levels tested? That is what causes the sexual problems. I'll bet you anything your testosterone levels (yes I know you're a female - testosterone is important for females too) are horribly low. There are hormone therapies for this, however, that are quite easy to administer via injection or creams. Go get checked out!

Great post and great advice. I couldn't agree with you more and am happy to hear you've gotten HRT for the issues. It's great you're exercising as well. Keep it up! It is even more important to exercise and keep as much muscle mass as you can at your age.

Oh ,hi. Yes, since I've been taking methadone I keep getting involuntary erections. I also seem to be leaking semen a bit. When I ejaculate the quantities of semen are massive. Its very thick & creamy also. Is there any cause for concern. I got a support which helps some. Thanks.
