I wish you, a untrained medical person would not tell people that something that could save their lives kills brain cells, just like the other poster i battled opiate addiction for 20 plus years to no avail really suprized to be alive then i found methadone I have been on 80 mgs a day for 5 yrs and for the first time in my life i see life through clear eye's i have held a job for 4 and ahalf yrs now i dont spend every waking hour looking for another doctor to lie to to get pills i am sorry but methadone has saved my life, i enjoy going to concerts going to the beach just life in general so don't be so quick to judge thanks jimmy Berylla wrote: <quoted text> What is the real reason you have to take Methadone? I can't imagine a synthetic heroine being a miracle drug! I can't imagine something that kills brain cells being a good thing. Sorry, it just doesn't make sence to me. But I'm also a Natural Healing person and don't even use chemical cleaners to clean my home. I'll have to be honest with you and tell you that I do believe there is an alternative out there for you that isn't damageing. And I also think Methadone needs to be banned. If it's killing so many people, why on earth would anybody want to even put a tiny amount of it in their body. Sorry, I'm not attacking you at all, but I believe that Hosea is right, 'People parrish for lack of knowledge.' And it's not our fault, the drug industry isn't informing people of the real dangers and lasting effects. I'll admit I hate it because my husband did not abuse it at all and it still ruined our lives! And nearly broke up our marriage and put us in a lot of debt. Anyway, Have a blessed day!:)

Yes methadone is a good for people who were running round buying pill, herion etc judt to feel normal.
Mthadone lets you get on with life without all the hassle.
Only problem being is long term. Getting of methadone is a painful journey it takes 3months to feel normal again .
It's the worst opiate to detox off and i'm not looking foward to detoxing off the greenstuff anyday soon,.
I've been there and done this detox at 17years old 10years ago and now i'm faced to do it all over.
Methadone is good for keeping addicts in check and fighting crime etc
Its not good for the long term however. Teeth rotting and weight issues . The detox after etc etc etc.
I'd say theres more cons than pros with metahdone.
But thats just my opinion.
I've been on subutex 8years and i found subutex to be much better then methadone .But subutex stopped having any effect after so long and i had to change to methadone i'm, on 60mls and i hate the stuff and im changing back asap its been 15days since i changed from subs to meth and it was the biggest mistake i've ever made.

Yeah Dom you could jump off at 40mls because i did this aswell. 10years agao i was 17 and i was on 40mls of methadone and benzos valuim and nitreazepam . When i got to reahb i was suppose to of already have detoxed before i even when into the rehab , i did do a home detox off 30mls of methadone but i gave up after 6 weeks clean . I went out a brought methadone physeptone tablets off the street in private everyone thought i was clean so when i went to rehab they thought i was clean , when infact i was addicted to 40mls of physeptone tablets which i brough off the streets. I got to rehab and i detoxed with no medication what so ever to help as the rehab though i was clean . I never even got a painkiller to help. I found it was a case of mind over matter i worried more and made the detox seem more powerful than it actually was. My point is Dom , i jumped at 40mls in rehab with nothing to help but i was fine . The first 10days was the worst i couldn't eat anything i coudn't smoke a fag because i felt so sick all time. But after day 10 my appetite came cak and i enjoyed food again which i hadn't enjoyed years and years before. The next 2 weeks were hard with the feeling of constant fatigue and no motivation .But your sleep improves after day 10-14 and you begon to adjust. After them 3 weeks of what i call hardcore kind of withdraws you then have 2months of the fog stage . The fog stage means where you're tierd and have very little motivation you're a little depressed at this point because you're fed up of feeling low and having no energy . But after the 3months the fog lifts and it's like a new life and you feel so good you wanna scream every morning you wake just to tell everyone you're NORMAL you need no drugs anymore to make you feel NORMAL as you're so normal again you just wanna live your life again. The end is worth evry second of the withdraws believe me Dom. Just makesure you've the support you need off your family and friends and clinic. You need supoort you need help and people who understand around you. Come on here and chat to us we're like a family we all help eachother someones always online and gets back to you within a day or less after your psot .Just psot on popular topics like the withdrawals topics. You'll be fine jumping off at 40 as is doesn't matter what dose you jump as long as it aint over 60mls i'd say . I did it without any bad bad withdrwas so Dom you'll be fine. Even people who were on 2mls and jumped off suffer just as long than a 40ml jumper would. If you're worried please ask the cinic for advice . Also its worth getting your clinic /doctor to give you some valium for anxistey and jumpyness and sleeping pills to help you sleep. Also get some vitiams tablets the 1x aday multi vitiams as these will help keep you all nurished up its well help your well being alot and some imodium of diharria . Please keep post again and let us know how you are. Goodluck Dom. ps please get advice if you're nervous about jumping at 40mls .xxxx

My situation isnt beyond fixing, and i truly hope there is someone out there who will help me. Its costing me my family, freinds, and basicaly my whole life. I called a detox facility and was told it would cost 6 to 8 THOUSAND dollars to detox!!!...There is NO way myself or my family can afford that. I have NO option but to continue this cycle and eventually die young, alone, and empty. If there is anyone out there who can and will help me let me know. I spent(my insurance co & Me) over $100.000.00 on re-habs, was prescribed every anti depressant known to man!! I did have almost 6 years during that time that I was "drug free" I was totally miserable, nearly nonfunctional, it was just a miracle that I got out alive!! I remember thinking, I've got five years, 8 months, 22 days, 9hours, 28minutes and 6seconds drug free!! and I'm just a miserable mess!! I am now FREE of that miserable life and do not want to go back there ever again. I am not sure what kind of long term effects and poison that you are referring to. Since I've been taking this miracle medication my health has made a dramatic improvement. I no longer take any antidepressants, I used to have sinus, upper res. infections at least 4 times per year, I have not had any of those in over 5 years. I have a full time job, in a very competitive field, that requires me to use my memory and comprehension skills. I do want to thank you for the response and I am glad that your Husband has found relief from addiction. I do believe that not all treatments work the same for all people, so it is wonderful that we do have different methods. It is too bad that some do not use the medications properly, and sell or transfer them to others, that reflects poorly on those of us who just want to live our lives and care for our Families. I could provide you with some research articles from published journals, if you have an interest in that please let me know. The best to you and your Family, Beth More research is needed in this field, I would like to see more successful methods available to Patients. Hi, just wondering what this 'miracle medication' is for my partner. You didn't write down the name.

Linda8888 wrote: <quoted text> Hi, just wondering what this 'miracle medication' is for my partner. You didn't write down the name. Linda, There are plenty of fast detox places around. Please note that the post you're answering is old. Most, if not all, of the people that do this relapse in under a year and it's very expensive. It's also not instant. No matter how one detoxes it takes time for the body and brain to adjust and be healthy again. If your partner is truly wanting to end methadone he/she will accept that there is discomfort but that it's worthwhile. If it's not your partner that has this interest but you, you are wasting your time. The person doing the detox has to want it and be willing. Whether one tapers or cold turkey's it takes determination.

Sometimes some people have to do methodone to maintain a normal life such as yourself, and me too. I also suffer fibromialgia, and have been an opiate user for more than 20 yrs. no drug use, suboxone, or any other treatment to stay off heroin, has not worked for me. I will most likely be on meth for the rest of my life, and I am okay with that, like you, it gives me the option to have a life and I am happy to not be sick and or in pain on a daily basis.

If it wasn't all about JUST the money, why would this same doctor and hospital take the money twice after saying he'd never detox someone LIKE my son again, then took the money AGAIN and again my son is worse off than he was the FIRST Time he went in! While you're going through this follow up time, you're told that it's THEIR FAULT, OR IT'S BECAUSE THERE WAS ONE TWO MANY PEOPLE INVOLVED, THEN THE SECOND TIME AND NOW I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR SOME "OTHER" EXCUSES ON WHY HE WAS never ABLE TO FEEL RELAXED OR WELL, I SAW IT, ANYONE WHO'S BEEN AROUND HIM CAN SEE IT, NOW HE'S AGAIN WORSE, WORSE, WORSE, I CAN SEE HIS BRAIN TRYING TO WORK, THIS PROCEDURE DOES THE ABSOLUTE OPPOSITE TO SOME PEOPLE, WHY DO YOU THINK THERE ARE NO "REAL" STATS TO PROVE THIS PLACES CLAIMS, REMEMBER ANA NICOLE, DR PHIL, DR ATKINS, OK NOT THE SAME CALIBER, FAR FROM IT, JUST SEE THAT MANY DOCTORS, CELEBRITIES AND PLAIN PEOPLE WITH OBVIOUSLY NO CONSCIENCE, CAN MAKE CLAIMS, TAKE PEOPLES MONEY, AND know IT'S A CRAP SHOOT, SOME WILL GET HELPED, SOME WILL NOT, BUT TELL US THAT THEY COULD BE WORSE, BECAUSE THAT is THE TRUTH!! AND THEY'LL ALWAYS HAVE AND MAKE EXCUSES FOR THOSE! MEANWHILE PEOPLE ARE SPENDING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND HAVE A LOVED ONE FAR WORSE THAN BEFORE THEY STARTED! If it did not work or does not work as you say, WHY DID YOU TAKE YOUR SON BACK A SECOND TIME ? Please explain.

You took your son there the first time, I assume he was helped in some way as I notice you took him back a second time. Your son abusing that much oxycodone I could'nt imagine. How old is your son? Your son is got to want to get off and STAY OFF drugs in order for any treatment to work. There is no magic cure. On the other hand, I feel most of the quick drug withdrawal treatments some doctors claim they can do or have a magic cure, are quacks.

Im currently on 148mgs of methadone daily and im desperate to get off. I went into this program completely blind. I live about 30min from the clinic I go to, you have to go daily for three months and if you stay clean for those three months you get your get wknd bottles. The longer you stay clean the more privledges you get, I go three times a wk now. I've been on it over 2yrs now and im due for my bis (going twice a week). I've heard horror storys about the detox from methadone. Im ready to be drug free. The doctor is in no hurry to take me off. You actually lose your privledges if you want to be taken down quicker than the doctor recommends. I feel like I need a miracle. I was prescribed pain pills and became addicted and when the doctor quit giving me the pills I start buying oxycontin or whatever I could get off the street. I feel like I just went from one drug to another. I do not want to be dependant on anything. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!

I feel like I just went from one drug to another. I do not want to be dependant on anything. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP! Hey Nicole, can't blame for wanting to get off. How much will they let you taper and how fast? I've tapered off twice now and it's not really to uncomfortable. That is if you do it at a reasonable pace and don't rush it to much. The manufacturer recommends 10% of dose, every 10 to 14 days. That works pretty well for most folks. Some go faster at the early stages but when the dose gets low, around 30 to 20 mgs, going slower is easier on you, and safer. If you do that, you won't be writing about your terrible experience or adding to the horror stories. You can just jump too. It's pretty hard, lasts a long time and the risk of longer term Post Acute Withdrawal is higher, as is the risk of relapse. I know that going at the clinics pace seems really long. It is long, but you shouldn't feel very much discomfort. The faster you push it, the more the discomfort. I guess the bottom line is, you're more apt to stay drug free if you don't push it to much. In a few hours, 27 June, I'll be drug free for two years. I think that's a miracle. I used for over 30 years the last 6, not counting MMT, I used every few hours just to stay well. Now I've been well for 2 years without using anything. Hope you're saying the same thing shortly, and you will if you don't get in to much of a rush. Best wishes, AB

ABC52: thanks for the reply. Its nice to hear a success story. You hear of so many people trying to get off of methadone or any drug and going right back to it as soon as the withdrawal gets tough. I know I've done it. The only difference this time is that im 100 percent ready to be off. Thanks for the advice. I am going to take it. Ill let you know how it goes.

I need 911 emergency help I have to fly home from orange county Cali at five am and so sick I will go to clinic when I get home I relapsed and went to downward spiral with herion help I'm so sick. Beth wrote: Brian, I am so glad that you have found a treatment that has worked for you, that is a wonderful thing, I sincerely hope that you will be able to live the life that you were meant to live. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to do that. Your are very correct, Methadone does not work the same for everyone. I struggled with addiction for almost 25years, one expensive re-hab after another. Endless meetings and counseling sessions with Therapists, accupucture, alternative medicines, mainstream antidepressants, I was a miserable mess, it's just a wonder that I got through college and was able to maintain some kind of life. Some days I felt as though I were just barely alive. I had a hard time thinking, like you, I was in a fog too!! I decided that I would give Methadone a try again. I started MMT in the early 70's, Patients then had no hope of ever having the medication to take home, I drove almost 4hours daily to get to the clinic, but I had to make a decision, I was having a hard time getting to classes on time as they were not open early enough for me to get back to my college courses, I did a quick taper and stopped. In 1999 I decided to try Methadone again, it was either that or I felt like I was going to die, I was just miserable & depressed. I feel like G-D led me to this medication, I am free from the dark depression and that horrible fog that surrounded my mind body and soul. I love life, I am active with my Daughters and am able to help them with their college expenses. I have many hobbies and projects, and work with a volunteer project. I have a job that I love to do. So please realize that not all of us are alike, not all medications & Treatments work the same for all people. But do know that I am so glad that you have found the treatment that has worked for you. That is something that we all should have access too. There are people who misuse the medication, those people make it bad for those of us who just want to work and take care of our Families & homes. Once again, Congratulations on your success. The best to you and your Family, Beth

Hi everyone. I've been on methadone now for ten years. I've tried to come off but it is really hard with no money and a full time job as I'm sure you all know. I am at the end of my rope. I am going to try again but this time there's a twist. I have no extra money and my bills are barely getting paid as is. Does anyone know what a broke idiot should do? I can't keep up with life. I hear great things bout a doc here in Florida. Does he do anything probono? Far shot I know. I have been taking 120mgs for years and don't have the money to get the next script in ten days. I feel I am done for. Aside from me, I really liked to see the compassion shown on this site. It's touching in today's society. Thanks for being positive. And if anyone has ANY TIPS please write them down. I need to get off this shite and I can't relapse. This is my hail Mary.

They promise you everything, but they have relapse rates of 95 to 98 %!!! NOT a good investment. The BEST way it to taper off slowly---10% of your current dose over 10 to 14 days---but I would recomend 2 to 3 months !!! I've successfully tapered from 60 mg/day to 7.5 mg/day by dropping 2.5 mg every 5 to 6 months---seems like a LONG time, but I've NEVER had ANY WDs !!! You sound soooo alone---continue to post here for help & support !!! Kindly, RxMan

So you're on 120 mg/day---DON'T go cold turkey---it's HELL for a LONG time. I would go to a MMT clinic & have yourself put on methadone maintenance. You have no other choice, unless you're a chronic pain patient & go to pain clinic. But I doubt that !!! Once you're @ a MMT clinic, you can stabilize & then ask to be slowly detoxed. Depending on your clinic, they may help you---OR they may tell you to stay on methadone for 1 year before detoxing. Either way, you NEED more time---go to the clinic & be stabilized on 120 mg/day & THEN talk aout reducing your dose. Best of luck, RxMan
