If you Google "Wonder drug that stole my memory" you will probably find an article in the English newspaper Daily Telegraph.

It`s written by Christopher Hudson in April 2009 and it`s about his statin experience.

That is the problem with most meds. a lot of side effects, that may be worse than the symptom that is being treated.
It seems like every time one goes to the Doctor another problem is found and a new medication is added.
Is it really worth the risk?? then when you start a new med it is not so easy to drop a drug.
I would suggest we take a bit of control of what medicines we allow our Doctors to prescribe.
I have a Doctor that gives a new med. almost every time i go!! I just turned 29 and i am on several different medications that are prescribed.

Lipitor (statin drugs) also cause confusion in thinking. It removes needed cholesterol in the brain and then is written off as Alzheimer's disease.

The Dr. gave me 80mg of Lipitor to take.Boy what a dose! My Cholestrol was 162 HDLwas 43 LDL89
Triglycerides 148.Iam 70 years old weight 117
do not smoke or drink and walk some everyday. I
was on 40mg and the carodologist upped the dose.
Does any one out there take 80mg. I talked her into maybe 60mg a day because of leg cramps,so
I am trying that. She wants everything lower.
Does not want me to eat my Hardees biscuit every day and that has gone bad with me because I have to watch other people eat them and I sometimes
eat nothing for breakfast.

GIVE ME A BREAK! Two bad apples spoil the barrel. How about all the lives that been improved and saved do to lipitor. For the good of the majority. This kind of nonsense is why medications cost so much. Can not blame it on the pharmaceutical companies. Can only blame it on bloodsucking lowlife lawyers and the animals that hire them.
Exactly what I was thinking. I've had medications give me side effects that weren't listed as "known" side effects (the key word there is "Known") and you just have to have enough sense to think "Gee, maybe it's the medication". So you quit taking it for a few days and BLAMMO. There ya go. Tell your doctor and have him try something else. So many of you seem to think it's the 'greed' of Pfizer that causes this....but I say "hey, maybe they just didn't know". I think it's assumed they covered it up for greed. Unfortunately, they'll probably discontinue it, and someone (like my father who takes it) will DIE because of all the sue happy crybabies. My point is: You "whine" about the side effects, but don't even consider that without it, a lot of you might be DEAD, and unable to sue, or complain here on this very post.

And we wonder why prescriptions cost so much. What a shame. I personally think it's a bunch of shady lawyers that take advantage of a few people who had bad side effects that appeals to GREED of people who are sue happy. Have you noticed the number of lawyer ads on TV these days...many for class action suits? There's this guy named John Edwards who made a fortune from frivilous lawsuits. Does that name sound familiar? It should, he's a known $cumb@g.

I've been taking lipitor for about 12 years a a precaution from my family history. In the last six months to a year, I've notice shooting pain, like cramps in my hip area. It is very painful to try and lift my leg at times. Sitting with my legs bent helps and the pain subsides until I start walking or standing. Does this sound like its the lipitor? and how does the COQ10 help?

Wow, so how much money are you trying to get? 6 years of benefit and 3 months of concern? How has the regulated medication changed over the 6 years to all of a sudden caused these changes? It hasn't. I have a hard time beleiving these side effects wouldn't have been seen much earlier if it was truly caused by the medication. Oh and on a side note people with Cardiovascular disease, whatever the source, have heart attacks. Inflamation is a marker that could indicate increased risk but is not very cost effective or very system spacific (you can't tell where in the body the infamation is located) so it doesn't help design treatment that could be benefitial. Again #1 should be proper diet and exercise but the lack of commitment to this results in the next step... medication.

OK Connie, did he tell you about the memory problems? Did he mention TGA? Confusion? Stumbeling? Forgetting words? Not being able to pronounce some words? Joint pain? Urinary urgency... and the need to alway "go"? Did he tell you if you start having tingleing anywhere on your body (hands feet, fingers, toes, face, arms, legs and so on), that is statin doing it's damage? Did he warn you about swelling of your feet or hands? Did he tell you they will steal your energy until you have NO life? Did he tell you that it hasn't even been proven that statins do women any good? Did he tell you your heart attack chances are only about 1% under someone not on the drug? Did he tell you that cholesterol is NOT what causes heart attacks, it is inflamation in the heart that is the culprit, that people with low cholesterol have heart attacks? Did he even bother to tell you every cell in your body NEEDS cholesterol, even your brain. Did he tell you statin drugs deplete your body of CoQ-10 and every cell in your body needs that?
I ask you to PLEASE educate yourself to the true side effects so IF they happen, you will know what it is and be able to get off of them before any permanent damage is done.
I was on them for 6 faithful years and I really believed in them like you and so many others do. In fact, only 3 months ago, I would have defended them too. They were doing their job, had my cholesterol down and my doctor was happy. ONLY when I searched for a answer as to what was going on with my memory did I connect any of it it to the statins. Then I connected one ailment after another, things I had assumed went with getting old.
I got off the drug and all my problems vanished and my energy came back. EDUCATE YOURSELF so when it happens to you, you will reconize what it is! Do that for yourself, it IS your life!!!(so take care of it)

You are very right. In many cases providers feel patients don't feel anything is happening unless they receive something when they leave their visit. Great example is the rxing of antibiotics for people who come in with a cold. The patient feels they are getting a service because they are getting treatment. End result antibiotic resistant "super bugs".(This isn't the only cause here, those of us who don't finish ALL our antibiotics don't completely remove all of the problem so it has a chance to come back stronger.) We need to understand the conditions we have and how our lifestyles impact them. Be willing to make the changes that can improve our health and then we can rely less on chemicals not natural to our bodies. No one can tell how every individual will react to each medication, so educate yourself on how the medications have reacted with others but don't be surprised if you may find that you experience something different or new, but make sure you report new issues so the FDA can watchdog.

Well, all of you who are filing Lipitor lawsuits, be prepared to be the loser in the end. If you read the vioxx blogs, look at what we have been through. We have been drug along, cannot get any answers, and guess who gets the big bucks in the end? It sure is not the victims. You will fill out paperwork until it runs out your ears, but I just want to warn you of what is ahead, you will be going down a long, long road of waiting, and then they try to take away your compenstation when you do finally get a dab, so guess who winds up with the millions? Then you will have a surprise, they have come up with a new strategy now, if your illness is drug related, and your private insurance paid for your medical care, then you have to give the insurance companies back all of it of what they paid, and then the lawyers even gets their kickback out of the liens. I just want to prepare you for all the crap that you will be encountering. I know, us Vioxx victims have been to hell and back, and only very few have been paid. It goes on and on. All I can say is good luck and God Bless.
Pharmgirl I guess you and your vioxx team are to stupid.see ya

I started taking the generic brand of Zocor this month. After 10 days of sever fatigue, muscle pain in biceps and calves, twitching, sometimes my leg would jerk suddenly about 8″ while relaxing, nausea after eating, sudden sleeping problems, and constipation bouts, I am usually regular, I started looking on-line to see if these were symptoms from statin use. I was appalled to see what I found as testimonies and case studies for these drugs! I am a very healthy 58-year-old women, energetic, active sports sailor and athletic person, strong for my age. I weigh 126 lbs, am 5′4 and have been slim all my life. People think I am in my early 40’s. My cholesterol is 250-260 with good HDL and low LDL and triglycerides. After reading so much about how bad these drugs are I stopped immediately. I take no prescription drugs, never had to. I already feel my energetic self, slept much better last night but still have a few muscle aches.(Weird, pinpoint sharp pains on corresponding sides of my arms and legs) How can doctors give this drug and try to say any of these symptoms are ok. Sounds like people my age and younger suddenly become very unhealthy and are prescribed more and more drugs to counteract the side effects of statins and have further decline in health and blame it on old age! This is a HUGE, DANGEROUS SCAM. I have recently had all the tests done to see if my heart is healthy and there are no “visible signs’ of artery plaque. I have had this kind of cholesterol for at least 10 yrs, when I started checking, but I refuse to become instantly unhealthy and slowly deteriorate from muscle damage all over my body. Isn’t the heart a giant MUSCLE? These drugs could be killing Americans slowly but surely, and truly making billions for the drug industry. While I am sure many people have dangerously high bad cholesterol, I would rather keep my cholesterol where it is (I’ll exercise more) and JUST SAY NO TO STATINS!

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Cancer

If you have children at home they'll be really playful today and quite a handful at times. Encourage them to burn off all their energy during the day otherwise it will be a case of tears before bedtime. There could also be a fractious atmosphere between you and a loved one, and this will quickly escalate into a row if you aren't careful.
