I have been on lexapro for four months now and I had a few side effects during the first month and the next two I felt like a million dollars and like my old self again.

For the past week or two, I have been absolutely dizzy, full of anxiety, shortness of breath and I feel like I am going to faint. Usually if I take a xanex, I feel better within minutes, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I am beginning to feel like the lexapro has stopped working. My Psychologist tells me that it is "anxiety" and to "Work through it" but I just can't. I feel like I am going back to square one.

Has anyone else had this problem?

After a year and half I still have occasional anxiety spells, but nothing like before. I have learned to stay away from situations that are stressful, and stay positive minded. Hang in there. Things will get better.

I have been on lexapro for a little over a year with no problems---not even any anxiety to speak of. However, in the past two weeks I have had two anxiety attacks. They have come in the middle of the night and for no obvious reason. I, too, am worried that the lexapro is no longer working. I will be seeing my Dr. in a couple of weeks. I am wondering (since your post was a year ago) what you may have found out.
Thanks.

I have noticed some irritability mixing lexapro with caffeine. Anyone else notice anything?I have been on lexapro for 3-4 years, the first year was great after side effects subsided. It does seem to loose effectiveness a bit after this long. I take 10mg a day.The first year I had a bit of GI upset and urinated a lot more than usual, and lost about 5 #. The weight thing has changed, I am back to my normal wt.

Hi
Just stared Lexapro 5mg about a week. It gives me great sleep but I have very blurry vision. Has anyone experienced this? Will it go away soon?
It makes it difficult for me on my job as I need to work on the computer constantly. My boss will not understand. Help!!!!

I started taking Lexapro about two months ago and have never felt better. Then two days ago I felt inner tension begin to creep in again. I am worried that it has stopped working. My doctor told me that this often happens and that there are "stabilizer" medicines that can be used in conjunction with Lexapro that help sustain the positive effects. After spending years of my life "trying to get to the bottom of things" with a therapist, I am going to go with medicine now. After two months of feeling so "normal" on Lexapro, I am unwilling to go back to the way I always used to feel. Also, I must mention that two days ago I also had an extremely stressful event in my business. Hmm. I will wait this out.

I started on Lexapro-5mg about 1 year ago. I upped the dose to 10 mg and my insomnia was "cured", but now when I get up in the morning and for the first few hours of the day, everything is blurry.

I've been on Lexapro & I was doing really well, I
too noticed that all of a sudden the Lexapro seemed to stop working. The only thing that I did differently was add caffeinated tea to my diet. I
wonder if caffeine affects the Lexapro? I can't think of anything else that was different. Thanks,
Jeanne

I've been taking Lexapro for 2 years now. Within the last 6 months or so, its positive effects have been waning and I've recently been more depressed than ever. I do drink coffee in the mornings, could that really be a possible problem?

I've been on it for over 2 yrs (20 mg) and in the last few weeks I have noticed the effectiveness decreasing. Also I have been extremely sleepy during day (this started a week or two ago). I take my dose at dinner each night but it is getting increasingly difficult to stay awake, concentrate, remember things (I'm losing things right and left)and function normally at work. I'm hoping for a change in medication soon

I've been on it for about 4 years and it's always worked for me. I sometimes lower the dosages just to raise them later. I like to test the water with my panic attacks and depression. I'm only 5 mgs now and sometimes go up to 10 if I'm having issues.

Sounds like you may want to up the dosage, I hear it's pretty safe up to like 60 mgs or so. Just go up at like 5 mgs at a time. When life is treating you better go back down. That's how I've been playing it. Make that drug work for you

My dr. suggested cutting the dosage in half (to 10mg), which made me happy because I would also like to "test the waters" with a smaller dosage. So far I have noticed a significant improvement.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I have been on 20 mg's for about a year and since then I have had to get glasses. My vision seems to worsen and I can't see crap without them on. It may just be because I am getting older, I'm 27, but It seems that I could see fine and in the past 6 months I need glasses.....

I think my Lexapro has stopped working. I have been having 4-5 anxiety attacks in a week's time and that's worse than it was before they switched. Thankfully I'm only depressive when I'm having those attacks though! Ugh. Need to talk to the doctor soon...

uh yeah if you have anxiety, caffiene is NOT something you want to be around. I found that my worst attacks were when i had caffiene in my system. Alcohol and caffiene dont work well with anti depressants to my knowledge.

Agreed - caffeine is not your friend if you're battling anxiety. For depression - trust what your body is telling you. I used to be a social drinker, but I find that I don't like the way alcohol makes me feel while on Lexapro. So I gave it up, and don't miss it at all. Anyone else experience this?

I also wonder about continued efficacy - I've been on it 6 years 20mg. Having some depression but nervous about getting off, too. Comments?

i have moments when I don't feel like it works as good. but, usually i just wait it out and soon start to feel better again. could mean i need to go up on the dose, but i feel like 25 mg is enough, i survived without any for so long, 25 mg must be helping some. check out forest labs site for information on free lex if out of work, saved my life. caffeine addict here too. love the lexapro at night, and caffeine in the day. good combo.

I've been taking 20 mg. lexapro for 5 years. I was wondering the same thing. It worked so well for me I'm leary of changing med. I'm recovering from substance abuse so I don't have the luxury of using benzodiazipine. I've seemed to have gotten into a rut. Too much caffiene and isolation. Anyway,, Just thought I'd share.

Don't freak about the shortness of breath too much, if it's accompinied by tension in your chest and the feeling of a heart attack your probably having a panic attack. I've been through many of these, the first few landed me in the ER just to find out it was nothing. I've been on Lexapro 20mg for about 5 years now and adding Xanax XR 1mg has taken the edge of off the social anxiety and panic. Don't get me wrong, there are still days where things aren't "like usual", but it's much better than years ago :)
