Lantus

Anybody ever experienced months of excessive diarrhea after changing to lantus Insulin (Intestine issues)> Please comment.

I have been taking Lantus for about 3 years and have not experienced any problems with diarrhea. It might be an interaction with another drug you are taking, I would definitely discuss it with your doctor.

metformin and byetta have high rates of gi side effects. Lantus has and extremely low rate of gi side effects.

I am looking into this now for my diabetic. It seems his diarrhea problem started at about the same time as his Lantus switch.

I am thinking, though, Lantus causes worse hypoglycemic episodes. My son seems to stay in these for hours, 7-11 hours and needing to be hospitalized, then when he was on NPH (he was rarely hospitalized on NPH - 20 minutes and he was out of the episode).

Here is why I wonder he takes two shots of Lantus a day so they over lap. But on one of the hypoglycemic occasions, he went into the emergency room from dialysis at noon (morning session) and at 10 o'clock the next morning he was just starting to get above 200 blood glucose. All thru the night his blood glucose levels keep dropping and the nurses had to give him 3 or 4 doses of glucose. At four o'clock in the morning he started to come out of the episode and to really be conscious.
