how can this medicine cost over $200.00 for the
generic! This is price gouging at the worst!
Our son has to take it for seizures. He has no insurance so we have to pay for it. Someone needs
to investigate the pricing of this medicine.
It is made by UCB laboratories.

Hi Rhonda,

Not sure if this will help any but UCB makes the branded drug for levetiracetam. I've just switched to the generic form, which is much cheaper. But, it doesn't seem to be working as well as the branded Keppra did.

Hope your son is doing good.

My name is Matt, I also take Keppra on a daily basis to control seizures, and I pay well over $400.00/month without insurance I do hope that someone will do something about the price soon because UCB. the manufacturer is making a killing off this medication; I hope that your son is doing well and is seizure free.

it is so much cheaper in Canada you guys. you don't have to get ripped off here in the US at your local pharmacy.

here is a site that sums up this entire topic pretty well:

http://www.PrescriptionDrugsCanada.Org

Some people buy from India but I like Canada the best cause they are our neighbor, have a great regulatory system and, are a first world country.

Our son has seizures and is on Keppra as well. He has tried the generic. Needless, to say he had break thru seizures even with increased dosage with the generic.
We are no strangers to paying for Keppra. When we lived in Seattle, at one point in time we had no insurance and thus had to pay for the meds ourselves. Our son takes 2 different kinds of meds for seizures and I think at the time we had to pay $700/mo for the meds. We tried to get apply for state disabiliy and even state medical assistance for our son. Washington state doesn't have "child disability" or SSI (he wasn't deemed "severely disabled").
A few years ago we moved back home to California. I found that this state does have "child disability" or SSI. Basically, our son had to see 3 state doctors to be evaluated for "disability". He was approved and now CA covers his medical. Although, he doesn't get the monetary SSI checks because he is still a minor and they count our income (we make a little bit over the guidelines).
Hope this info helps!

I have seizures and I just called my pharmacy and asked for a cost of a months supply of Keppra and they said it was 300.00 a month. These is corrupt and a devious way with intent to harm people who have seizures. Why Keppra used to be cheaper.
In a 1932 study of the eugenics movement in the United States, its author wrote that American eugenicists regarded "socially inadequate persons, i.e., the feeble-minded, the epileptics, the mentally diseased, the blind, the deformed, and the criminals as inimical to the human race. It should be our aim to exterminate the undesirables, they contend, since a nation must defend itself against national degeneration as much as against the external foreign enemy."

Mail order folks, get them 3 months at a time -NEVER buy any meds @ a month to month rate!

My insurance uses Walgreen pharmacy, they have a great mail order service.

Have your doc prescribe 90 day scripts! Even w/o insur. the cost is less ( per pill of course) than month to month.

you should check into the laws, I believe that the president signed a bill called no child left behind, with that bill your child should qualify for free health insurance.

I have a seizure disorder and must have BRAND name Keppra and Topamax. 1,000 mg of Keppra twice daily, 100 mg Topamax twice daily. Just filled a prescription, cost me $645.00 for a one month supply. HELP, please. I am 56 years old, I feel like an "Adult left behind."

Most Pharmacies offer a mail order service. Usually a 90 supply is required but often the cost works out less.

Many manufacturers have assistance programs for certain drugs - try google and surf for financial assistance programs etc.

Call ALL pharmacies I Take Keppra and Lamictal. When my husband lost his job we lost insurance so I called local pharmacies.(Walmart,Kroger,CVS etc..I also called non-chain ones, priced generic) The non-chain ones were MUCH less. My meds. went from $500 a month to $75 without insurance. The local family owned pharmacy would shop around and stock the lowest cost ones, and yes I checked online to make sure pills were correct. It's amazing how much big name stores mark up prices on stuff people really need. Funny thing is when we did get insurance back we had to use the mail order service or pay out of our pockets. The insurance mail order costs more than the local pharmacy without insurance. So I recommend calling family owned pharmacies.

I agree the price for this medication is way too high. I started taking this medication for a tumor found on my frontal lobe after having a seizure. I keep on having sezures and the tumor is growing that is why I will have it removed by the middle of next month. The thing is that I have about 4 jars of 540 pills. Each pill is 500mg the doctors prescribe them to me to take 3pills 3 times a day. My question is what does the community here recommend I do with my pills after the removal of the gliosis. I am also on topamax. should I ask for a refund where I bought them Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. does any one know if they take refunds :}

I live in New York and have been taking 2000 mg of Keppra a day since February 2010 when i had a grand mal seizure, fell, and broke my jaw. The Keppra had been around $250/mo in 2010 at Duane Reade pharmacies, then went up to $300/mo in 2011, and i just got my next month's supply, and it was $442!!!
I'm going to call and research mail away pharmacies, but whoever it is that's raising the price on this stuff is seriously screwing people over.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Virgo

You're feeling restless and need to introduce as much variety into your day as possible. However, you'll want this to be on your own terms, and you certainly won't like it if plans are changed without your consent or you feel you've lost control of the situation. Try to take everything in your stride, otherwise you'll end up feeling exhausted and frazzled.
