Fosamax - Femur Breaks

luni joi wrote: I took fosomax for several months. I stopped suddenly. Immediately I noticed my legs were very weak. Like they could not support me. To aggravate the problem, I stayed at home for four days w/o the usual small walks that I do at work. Then my right knee got swollen, and I still wake up at night due to the pain on my right knee. My mom had severe leg pain for 2 years. She was on Fosamax from 10/2000 to 11/2008. On 10/10/2008 her femur just broke. Well guess what Monday the other femur fractures. If you have severe pain request a 3 phase nuclear bone scan. It will show any stress fractures. My mom suffered for a long time and know is still in the hospital.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in both back and spine - 2.5. I took one Actonel 3 months ago and had bad side effects - headache for 2 days, sore at back of eyes and pain in hips for 2 weeks- so didn't take any more. I've just been prescribed Fosamax instead. Very concerned about whether to take this now as it's also a Biphosphonate. What's the alternative?

My doctor also seemed surprised when I called after almost three months on Fosamax and told her that my bones, hips and knees hurt so bad I could hardly walk anymore. She took me off the Fosamax for a month. The month is almost up and my right side is still very bad. I already had problems with my hips and knees that was worse on my right side, but it got much worse after about the second week on the Fosamax. The left side improved when I went off, but my right side still hurts terribly. The pain makes it difficult to sleep and I can't walk much anymore without limping. I'm about to give her another call and try to find out what, if anything, can be done about this.

I know this is an old discussion, but I took Fosamax AND Boniva (damn you Sally Field) and had acid reflux, increases in my asthma AND amazing bone pains...till I stopped. You get paranoid about breaking something, and I don't know the answer. But I am taking calcium and my klutz moments haven't resulted in any breaks (as happened before calcium). So I am faithful to my 1500 mg of that a day.

Wow! I'm sincerely freaking out. Just started taking Fosamax. 49 with osteopenia in hips and osteoporosis in spine. Doing all kinds of reseach (low acid diet, various vitamins, excercise...etc) and am simply shocked that my gynecologist just wrote me the prescription and sent me on my way with NOTHING ELSE to go on - not even the dexascan no.s. I don't think I'll be taking even one more pill without getting the critical osteoporosis medical workup to look for underlying causes and looking at this from every possible angle. Meantime, I'll see my family doctor with my concerns. Thanks to all of you who are sharing your experiences with Fosamax. Very, very, unsettling.

I've been taking the big "F" pill for 3 years and now have CLL. May have gotten it any way, but since it deals with bone marrow, how does "F" effect that issue. Shouldn't I stop?

I took fosmax for only 3 weeks and after reading so many scary comments I elected to quit. I strongly recommend the book "Building Bone Vitality" by Amy Joy Lanou. It has become my bible. I have adopted a low acid (low animal protein) diet and through this, along with daily walking, hope to see a benefit when I have my next dexa. ONLY as a last resort will I take bone density drugs. You will be amazed by what you'll learn from this book. Don't bother gobbling calcium or consuming large quantities of milk and dairy without FIRST reading this book. I got it at my library (alongside others which tell you to drink lots of milk and consume lots of dairy). Wrong!!

Two years ago my doctor did a bone scan and he noticed bone loss. He put me on Fosamax. Months later I began to hear my bones cracking and I felt terrible pains!!!! I fractured both ribs. I was in so much pain and my doctor still continued to perscribe FOSAMAX....later i was doing research about the drug and found out other people shared my symptoms...I was able to sue and recieved a settlement of $2.5 Million dollars.....Though it doesnt change my pain. I just wanted to share my story and give everyone the opportunity to contact my lawyer for a consultation....click the link for a consultation http://tinyurl.com/4sje3lj

Yes, I have had hip pain and until I heard the tv commercial (today) had no idea that fosamax was causing people problems. My hips hurt the worst during sleep, so much so that it wakes me up. And after driving for even a short time, I get so stiff I can barely get out of the car. My thighs are also so weak, I cannot bend down to pick something up and cannot walk up stairs without pain. Very strange. I am going to stop my fosamax. I am 52 and my gyn put me on it when I turned 50 as a preventative measure.

I need more information on fosamax and pancreatic calcification. My sister has stones and atrophy of the pancreas(2/3) and we're trying to see if there is some connection. Diane Dixon wrote: My 80 year old mother was diagnosed with leukemia in July, 2006. She has taken fosamax since 1995 when it came on the market in Canada. For years she experienced severe low back pain which she never had before. She was diagnosed with a calcification in the pancreas (medical articles have been published on the relation between fosamax and calcification in the pancreas - search the web and you will find). She started losing weight, 40+ lbs. since taking. In Sept. 2001 she developed seizures with no previous history and no family history of. The oncologist described her leukemia as having no bone marrow. While on fosamax I noticed her appetite waned. She is now off fosamax and is being kept alive with blood transfusions. A pharmacist called fosaxma "draino". I believe this is a very dangerous drug, mostly being given to women and not enough study was done.

A number of abnormalities can be experienced by a Fosamax user. Among these are visible jawbone, poor healing guns, numbness, loosening of the teeth, and jaw infection. Bu the most serious can be jaw death or the so called osteonecrosis. Try to check an article about this here http://www.fosamaxfemurfracturelawsuit.com/up...

Fosamax has been linked to many side effects. Fosamax lawsuit plaintiffs will tell you that one of the most dangerous are atypical bone fractures. http://www.rotlaw.com/fosamax/

I have had only 2 tabs at 70 mg each and I feel like i've been hit by a truck. Back, neck, hands, shoulders etc everything hurts. My doc says it can occur and may not get better with time. If gets "severe" will go to a different drug.(whatever severe means).

I just started the fosomax 70 mg and my bone pain is very intense, my hips, my shoulders and my right jaw bone have pain that came out of nowhere and began just after I started taking this medicine. I called my doctor and she advised me to stay on it as the pain means that the drug is working. However I do not know how much more of this I can take. My shoulders have locked up my hips hurt so badly I cannot sleep on either side and doing the stairs in my house has become a hardship.
