This bisphosphonate drug has been chained to osteonecrosis according to some claims. I can tell you that I have been on Fosamax for about 6 months...and yesterday when I took my weekly dose...I did not take it with the recommended 6 ounces of water. I took it with a couple of swallows only.(I am 54)
I now can not swallow solids as the pain is severe. Liquids go down fine--but not solids. The key to prevent this I think is water!!
I plan on going off this--I would rather break a bone than panic when I try to eat!!

my husband has crohns disease and was taking fosamax from 2004-2008. has always had trouble with hiatal hernia, gastritis and acid reflux.In July 2011 was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, passed away in Sept 2011. I can"t help but feel that fosamx is directly responsible for this horrible tragedy. With all his conditions he should
have never taken fosamax.

I've heard both good things and bad things about Fosamax.
