I was prescribed Fosamax and after taking only 2 times, I feel like something is stuck and hanging in my throat. Has anyone else felt this and will it go away?

Stop taking it right away. I had this but stupidly stayed on it-now have acid reflux, a hiatal hernia, and nerve damage. I feel awful and may need surgery. Fosamax can be very harmful.

I Have read that fosamax isn't good for your teeth; also that it's effects are only good for about 5 years. I think older women75 or so should take it. Not under that age. Also; I read that it can make bones more brittle.

My mom took fosamax for a few months and I believe that this is what caused her to have all of the problems she is having now. She was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and was prescribed prevacid which seemed to help her at first, but now she frequently gets severe stomach pain. The pain is so severe that we end up in the emergency room. She has had several tests and basically her Dr. says that her pain is due to her haital hernia. Because she has many other health issues her Dr. is reluctant to do surgery. I really feel that Fosamax messed my mom up. She rarely had stomach problems before taking this medicine. Now we really don't know what to do.

This explains exactly what a hiatal hernia is and what causes it.

Fosamax most likely has nothing to do with it at all, and it's possible she may have had it long before she took the fosamax.

I hope your mom improves- I know what is like to have a chronically ill mother. I wish you well...

I was taking Fosamax and developed jaw pain and have been experiencing dental problems too. I stopped taking Fosamax and now taking Actonel. I also started having Reflux ever since taking Fosamax...Now after a colonoscopy and endoscopy, I have been told I have a Hiatal Hernia, and Diverticulosis....After reading about Fosamax and what it has done to other people...maybe thats why I have all these ailments. I'm scheduled for Hiatal Hernia surgery this november.

My sister was diagnosed with Chrohns Disease shortly after starting FARCE-A-MAX. Run to the bathroom, take the remaining tablets and flush them down the crapper! That is the only place they belong.
Do some research and start yourself on some Calcium/Magnesium supplements with Vitamin D (at least 400 IU per day). And try to walk, or do other exercise 3 x a week.
These pills are a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Good luck!
p.s. also have read about people losing thier vision due to retina detachment connected to the pills.

I was having multiple fractures, in this order- my right arm,(6 days later) 3 fractures in my pelvis, 3 toes. I took fosamax (my Dr. told me it didn't matter that I had a hiatal hernia. it made the hernia hurt, so he changed me over to boniva. I took 2 doses, and have had pain ever since. dangerous stuff !!

i would give a billion dollars and all my savings and money to go back to the pre-fosamax days. i took it for 8 yrs. now i have acid reflux and acid blockers have lost their effect. i will never be the same. i was in great health before & was osteoporene (not yet to the osteoporosis stage). now i am at a high risk for cancer of the esophagus as the acid backs up into my throat. this stuff should be banned and boniva too, which works the same way.

Ihave been taking fosamax for 3yrs. 6mths ago I started to get severe pains in the knees, which was worse when in bed.I stopped taking the pills a few weeks ago, and the pain in knees is only occasional now. I have started to get the symptoms of hiatal hernia, which I cant help feeling is due to the fosamax. my advice to anyone taking this drug is to find alternative medication as I feel it does more harm than good.Best wishes to everyone. I have been taking Fosamax for almost three years. I was having severe pain on the left side of my stomach and ended up at the emergency room and after the cat scan found out that I now have Diverticulosis. I now have to go for a colonscopy. I also have been on medication for the last three weeks nothing seems to be helping. Thank you so much for your information. I was also told by my doctor that in the next couple of years I would have to come off of it and try something else.

I agree with you. I took it for only a few months 7 years ago and have had chronic reflux every since. Have to live on Prilosec and still feel the symptoms in my throat. I am constantly worried about what it is doing to my throat, not to mention the side effects of Prilosec.

I have a hiatal hernia and have been taking fosamax. My doctor now is telling to stop taking it that it will make my condition worse. I will see a GI tomorrow and hopefully I won't have to have surgery. I am 84 years old and everything I have read about this medicine it has only made by condition worse.

I was prescribed Fosamax in for supposedly having osteoporosis in my lower spine; after taking fosamax for about three months I started having problems with acid reflux -- something that had never happened to me before the fosamax. I was then prescribed Nexium to counteract the effects of the fosamax. Stupidly, I took both fosamax and nexium daily for the next five years, until I started having severe bone pain after the most mild exercise, such as walking. I have been physically fit and active my entire life. My doctor refuses to admit that fosamax has anything to do with these symptons. I stopped taking both fosamax and nexium almost a year ago due to the bone pain and the increased frequency of episodes of acid reflux. I have now been told that I have a hiatal hernia -- which I believe was also caused by the stinking fosamax! DO NOT TAKE FOSAMAX!!!! I'd rather take my chances with osteoporosis!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aquarius

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
