pat wrote: how long before side effects go away Hi Pat, I've been taking Femara for about a year and unfortunately, the side effects have gotten worse for me (as for the joint and muscle aches). The hot flashes are better when the weather is cooler, so that's hard to say if they're getting better or not.

I have been on Femara for 2 or 3 months and I'm beginning to have significant muscle and joint aches. When I go to do anything that requires any physical strength, it is exhausting. I love to garden but every project I think of doing, I immediately think that I don't have enough energy for it. I'm really not sure I can take this drug for five years. I'll be 50 in June, but I tell my husband I feel like a 95 year old woman. And I have two young boys - 8 and 10. I REALLY need my energy! I keep thinking this is just in my head - but honestly, I don't remember feeling this sore or having any lower energy than when I was doing chemo and radiation.

Linda, I have been taking femara for six months and like you I get tired easy but I keep going. I have noticed that the hot flashes have started up again but that also will pass. I have started to gain some of my weight back and my energy level improves eash day. It was bad going in the beginning. God will take care of you. I will be 65 in July of this year and I am so thankful for Femara

I have been taking Femara since December 2002. My hair has started to thin a bit but only in the past year. My joints ache, my memory is awful but the worst side effect is the tiredness. I can only work part time (2 days a week) and am currently struggling with that. But there is no way that I would stop taking Femara. I don't want to think of what might happen if I stopped taking it.

I am also very tired, but not enough to stop me from working. My hair is thinning and I have urinary problems. My memeory is getting worse as well.

I have done tamoxofin for 5 years. Now Femara. Want to quit. What happens to my body when I quit? Thank you.

Hello everyone. I've never participated in one of these sites but was looking for additional information on Femara and found all of you. I have been on Femara for 2 years. For those of you with the muscle aches and tiredness, yes you will have that for a good 6 months and then it gets better. I started taking glucocimine and it took a good 3 months of taking that before feeling better. The hot flashes and sudden red flushing in the face gets a little worse in the first year. For those of you that are TIRED and are LOSING YOUR HAIR. Please go and ask to have a thyroid panel done. Femara DOES interact with anyone taking thyroid medication. I've had to up my synthroid dosage three times since starting on Femara. Some of your "tiredness, weight gain and hair lose" could be attributed to a slow thyroid. Also, if any of you are older than 35, all the cancer treatments etc., could have affected your thyroid anyway. Hope this helps all of you. I was looking for anyone that developed "thrush" since their treatments. I hope all of you continue to stay well! writeitkc@gmail.com
