If you read the FDA information on this drug t says it has side effects of discolored teeth when you take it in the thrid trimester... that is its only warning to pregnant women.

I just went to Honduras for a short term missions trip and my doc prescribed doxycycline as an antimalarial drug. Check out the cdc's website for others, but yes, it is common.

My husband (marine engineer) has just been posted to work in Abijan and has to take Malaria precautions. His Doctor prescribed doxycycline.
I was wondering if this is the usual medication for preventing Malaria.
Would any one know, as my husband had cancer 3 years ago (mouth cancer). Thanks.

My wife has been on doxycycline for the past 2 months. When she realised that she was pregnant for the first week she stopped taking it. Could it affect the foetus? HELP ME KNOW PLEASE. I'M SCARED. It might be my first born.

Doxy is not recommended even in the first trimester...I know cause I have been through it with my last prenancy and I am now pregnant again. I am prone to kidney infections, some caused by MRSA. Doxy is one of the main medications that can help the infection being that I am allergic to almost everything else. The doctors were scared that the kidney infections would cause me to miscarry, buth they refused to be put me on doxy and that would not at all. Now I am preganat again and just found out that I have another kidney infection. The dr prescribed doxy, but once they found out that I was pregnant they adviced me not to take it and are now trying to figure out what other medication to give me. I was seen by specialist at the U of I hospitals and clinics and they wouldn't even prescribe me doxy, so I don't think that it is safe under any circumstance. I have had more than one doctor work on my case because it is complicated, but all have been in agreement about the doxy. Do NOT take.

My doctor gave me doxycycline when I complained about pelvic and lower abdominal pain. She thought it was a urine infection. They also did a pregnancy test and it was negative. I took 4 100 mg tablets then discovered 4 days later that I was pregnant. I'm not more than 4 weeks. The doctor told me about the side effects. I was here losing my mind until I came across this forum. I am particularly encouraged by sue ( July 2010) and Sara ( oct 25, 2011). I can now relax because I thought all pregnancies with exposure to the drug in the early 1st trimester all produced malformed babies .
I will be sure to report the results of my baby so I can help others when they freak out the way I did. We should probably post this blog in clinics because it took me a while to find it.

I took doxycycline at the beginning of my last pregnancy, and stopped shortly after i found out I was pregnant - at about 6 weeks. I was on it when I conceived also.
My 2 year old boy is perfectly healthy except for an allergy to dairy. Whoever wrote that first post sounds full of it. Just relax! I always heard that the biggest concerns were tooth discoloration if taken later in pregnancy.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Virgo

You're feeling restless and need to introduce as much variety into your day as possible. However, you'll want this to be on your own terms, and you certainly won't like it if plans are changed without your consent or you feel you've lost control of the situation. Try to take everything in your stride, otherwise you'll end up feeling exhausted and frazzled.
