Availability of Generic Valsartan

I get my drugs from a mail order pharmacy, and they charge me for a name brand (Diovan) and tell me there is no generic form available, yet valsartan is the generic form of Diovan. Am I getting ripped off??

No, the patent for Diovan doesn't expire until 2012. So 2012 will be the earliest a generic form of Valsartan will be available.

I think it is available as generic in France.
It seems to be available also from India at http://www.internationaldrugmart.com/diovan.h...

Valsartan is available in Canada.

Check the FDA site for generic drugs. Valsartan is arppoved in a certain strength. Check it out.

Yes, generic Valsartan is difficult to find, but comparison pricing can certainly pay off with great savings.
I did some re-checking today, and my Diovan(Valsartan, 160mg/90tabs) sells for US$238 at CVS.com ,$225 at Wal-Mart.com ,$135 at CanadianOnlineRx.com (for 84tabs), and $88 for the generic at my current pharmacy, InternationalDrugMart.com .
I guess I will keep ordering from International Drug Mart. They are a terrific pharmacy, orders come in about two weeks, and provide very low prices.

I frequent in Chicago a lot so having things shipped there is sometimes challenging. You say two weeks and $88 for 90 pills or 84?

I just recieved Diovan tabs at cost of 65.00 U.S.
I have goverment Blue Cross Fedral Post office, and mail in orders until Jan 1 was paying 35.00 for same. Now having read your letters feal better about increase however I find on the Bottle RPh; KFeduska Substituted for Toprol XL Tabs So I am goinf to contact my Blue Cross. I too was told no Genric on telephone when ordering. Will come back here and report after.je85

Yes, but possibly not yet legal. Not that it isn't safe. They aren't THAT concerned for our health. It's about money to be made. Lots of it

Yes. I have taken it for several years (ordering it from Canadadrugs.com . No problem.

It's 2012 now. The "patent" is off. They can now start to produce and sell generics of it
