Can anyone share what type of side effects they have had with Diovan 80mgs? I would be interested since this is the seventh med I have taken, all previous meds had side effects that were not tolerable.

I have been on Diovan 80 mg for 18 months and have experienced weight gain, headaches, swollen ankles, fatigue and memory problems.

High blood pressure can damage the kidneys. Diovan is supposed to reduce blood pressure, which would then reduce potential damage to the kidneys. In a different thread, you asked about diabetes. Diabetes also can damage kidneys and can cause high blood pressure. |

When first on Diovan, my BP dropped immediately. Other than some initial intestinal discomfort and urgency, minimal impact. After about 5 weeks, I began feeling lightheaded, dizzy, nauseous, anxious with muscle aches and was losing lots of my little remaining hair Since I have an auto-immune illness that causes hair loss, I thought it was my other illness kicking in. After I almost fainted several times and flu-like symptoms continued, I began to suspect Diovan. Alopecia (hair loss) is listed as one of Diovan's "post-marketing experience" findings in the PDR. I stopped taking it about a few weeks ago. Within 48 hours, all the stomach, anxiety, lightheadedness stopped. Within a week, the volume of hair I was losing slowed down dramatically.

1 I am 78 years old and since taking Diovan for only 3 mornings, 80cm., my pressure is amazing! It has dropped almost to normal. However, I'm noticing my hands are trembling and wonder if this is another side effect, not mentioned before. I was told by my physician to take 80 mg. for one week and then start on 160. Any comments from anyone? |

Check out this site for comments. I, too, got "shakey" after a couple of weeks on Diovan that stopped when I discontinued the drug. Diovan worked well on my blood pressure, but I experienced too many side effects to continue. Comments on the site below echo what others have said here: from "Diovan worked with little to no side effects or the side effects didn't bother me" to "Diovan worked/didn't work on BP and the side effects were a problem." http://www.askapatient.com/viewratings.asp... |

I started Diovan HCT 160/12.5 and within one week noted anxiety and insomnia. I found myself thinking in ways I never have and feeling uncertain of every decision. I also noticed my hair semed like it was falling out. I kept asking everyone around me if I was going bald. I was having GI upset and of course, dizziness upon standing (showing the med was working). My BP was great! I am a physician and didn't realize the relationship to the medication for almost 2 months. I have just stopped the Diovan and will monitor. I will let you know how it goes. Anyone else with anxiety?

Yes, I suffered from anxiety, a very weird kind, when I was on Diovan. Since I have had other experiences with anxiety, the feelings I had with Diovan were different. I called it "anxiety" but it was like anxiety on steroids. I shook, trembled, felt sick, like I would pass out. And, unlike my previous experiences with anxiety, it didn't go away until I stopped taking the drug. I'm not bashing Diovan. It was great on my BP, but I evidently had every possible side effect and then some, all of which stopped within a few days of ceasing the Diovan. |
