why do people keep taking coumadin when they are suffering terrible side effect? Are they afraid their doctors will be upset with them for not following their instructions? Doctors are probably paid off by big Pharma and the makers of coumadin, among other drugs. This is how the medical world works today. So if your body is trying to tell you something, by presenting a host of awful side effects, for God's sake, STOP TAKING IT My 83 yr old mother's hair fell out, her body is bruised, her eyesight had rapidly changed, she is dizzy and can't walk without holding on to the wall for balance, but her doctors tell her coumadin has nothing to do with it, and she has to keep taking it. She has never had a heart problem, they want this to prevent a heart attack because she has fibrillations. Soon she won't even be able to function on her own.

My mother was murdered on coumadin 3 weeks ago. It carries an FDA Black Box warning for Death. No one tells you that. They also don't tell you that taking blood constantly from people, especially the elderly, leaves them in a position of low blood volume, which most cannot replace. You need greens, good fats and salt to build blood. Which is exactly why the AHA takes you off all 3... good for Biz. This drug is literally rat poison. Never take it for any reason. If you want to reverse cardiovascular damage science figured that one out 13 years ago with the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Bet you weren't told that either.

Please wait...
Should your Mom fall it is likely she will die. The Coumadin interrupts clotting so people bleed to death like rats. Contact me if you'd like to speak with an MD who can help you :)

Dianne H. I see our post is from 2006 now and is probably over so how did it turn out. I am in Ca and the attorneys would not pursue a law suit because Ca passed a law that you cannot sue for over a certain amount and it would take that much or more for the suit.

Doctors should always know all the side effects of the meds they prescribe, especially when it is a drug that is as dangerous as warfarin, however, none of them do, and that's the reason why people want to file a lawsuit, I DO, because when it ruines your life.... I was put on it for 10 years and just found out it should have been only 6 months. It has ruined my life big time. 10 years of avoiding certains healthy vegetables, vitamins, even the pleasure of a glass of wine once in a while and the list goes on. I lived in a fog all that time, have been in physical pain every day, my skin is ruined, lost half of my hair and gained a lot of weight. I have a lot of scar tissue in my arms from all the blood tests. The docs told me I would die if I did not take it...... the last one told me it was a misdiagnosis. So how is that for feeling angry and frustrated. It is rat poison, a little a day takes your life away.

Wow! Reading the postings here really has me frightened. I just started taking warfarin sulfate (coumadin?) a few weeks ago, along with the Lovenox (heparin?) injections after having been diagnosed with two DVTs in my left leg. My INR went up very slowly the first two weeks (1.2 and 1.5)and jumped to 3.1 on Wednesday of this week. I just learned today that I can stop the Lovenox injections and the warfarin sulfate was lowered from 10 mg to 9 mg. I did stop eating foods with Vitamin K on Monday because I wanted the INR to at least go up to therapeutic range. Now that the INR is too high, I told the MD that I would resume the vitamin k foods and keep my consumption amount consistent. I was told that would be on the medication for six months. If the coumadin/warfarin is so harmful, what is the alternative? I'm afraid of having a pulmonary embolism and have had a great deal of ankle pain and swelling from the two deep vein thromboses. The pain stopped shortly after starting the Lovenox and warfarin/coumadin, but the swelling has persisted.

Carole Coveney wrote: I recently lost my mother in Dec 05. She was on coumadin for the past 15 years for a double valve mechanical replacement. In the past year she changed heart doctors and was having a hard time getting her blood to be the right number of thinness/thickness her doctor took her off coumadin for 11 days, and she responded with TTP which took her life. I was wondering if there were any other cases out there like this, or if anyone has any knowledge if TTP is associated with coumadin. Thank you, I too was on coumadin for a dvt/PE I had in July 8th-12th, 2011- in less than a month (Aug.5th.) I was in the hospital again and was diagnosed with TTP. I asked my hematologist about the connection between coumadin and TTP and she said research showed that there is no connection, but after reading your comments I am very scared to go back on coumadin when I get out of the hospital. I am still in the hospital as I type and I am on lovonox. This is a very scarey drug!! I do not know what to do.

I wish I had read your post before...my father too just passed away due to a brain hemorrahage. He had been taking a blood thinner for three years because of an arritmia (he never had a any type of stroke or cardio-vascular accident). He didn't like the idea of taking the anti-coagulant and he was willing to take the risk of having a stroke, but I convinced him other wise. I regret I did that without any researh in my part. If I would have known but I know now about this type of drugs, I would have look for other alternatives.

I am deeply sorry for your mother's demise. You should know about DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., which has been recently facing various lawsuits filed by law firms in UK, US and Australia, in behalf of patients who underwent hip replacement operations. If you think that you might have received a defective hip device that caused you hip replacement problems, you should immediately contact your doctor, even if you are not experiencing pain or discomfort. The web page http://www.depuyhipreplacementlawsuit.com/sym... discusses this matter in a more detailed manner.

My families came early last year when my sister was murdered by Warfarin in November 2010....had a brain bleed stroke, a well known side effect of these drugs (coumadin, warfarin). Why these drugs are still on the market is beyond belief. I guess the $20 Billion, yes I said Billion, dollar a year profit for the drug maker out does any saftey restrictions for our citizens, go figure!!

People please put you faith in God for your health, not doctors and pills....Life’s NATURAL dangers are worth talking....NOT THESE KOWN DANGERIOUS DRUGS!!!!! Yes - you can put your TRUST in a doctor, but NEVER your FAITH! Not to say we don't need doctors, they have a purpose. But that purpose has been subverted mostly in their own financial interest not your well being...Doctors will ALWAYS tell you if you ask...."how long will I live if I do this or that treatment"... they will say; “IT'S UP TO GOD!!!!!” God bless….

My brother sadly just died last Tuesday 6th March 2012 - he was on warfarin and had a history of drinking-he was not on the correct medicine i believe, considering his history of alcohol . When he was administered, it over a year ago, he was not drinking, he became depressed over xmas time and then turned to alcohol. W e have not had the coroners report yet but clearly it was warfarin poisoning leading to a hemorragic bleed- his face was red as he lay there dead. I will miss him but i must protest- never take a healthcare professionals word. They never monitor and assess effectively. Sarah
