Hi,

I'm 32 years old. I went into the hospital in September for what they are calling restrictive lung disease. While there they found a blood clot on my heart so of course they put me on wayfarin. I've been on it ever since I was in the hospital from the 11th of September until the 26th of October. During this time I did not have a period at all because they were just pumping me full of all kinds of meds. Currently i am on 6 different meds including warfarin. I get my INR checked every one to two wks. The dosage has been the same for about 3 wks now which I think is a good thing. Let me get to the point sorry. I hadn't had a menstrual cycle after i got out of the hospital until January 3rd. It was just miserable. Very heavy flow. Very bad cramps. Prior to this i had some what lighter periods that would only last 4-5 days some times less. I hardly ever had cramps either. This period lasted 11 days! omg did I mention i was miserable? So the 14th comes and bam its gone! Such relief. Well, on the 23rd I started another period. Just as heavy and just as bad of cramps. I'm still on my period today February 1st. I have an appointment with my ObGyn tomorrow to see if anything else could be going on. My dr checked my thyroid and that's fine. I hope this eventually stops happening so frequently if it is the warfarin because my dr said its for life. It's not going anywhere. Please tell me these heavy frequent periods are normal and I shouldn't be nervous about my appointment tomorrow?

I believe I am suppose to start my period and had been spotting but does the coumadin cause really bad cramps? Cause I feel soo much pain in my waist and severe cramping on my lower abdomen? Is this normal?! It feels like I am going into labor/misscaring...

Hello,
I thought I would start this thread for the ladies on coumadin with some specific issues and questions.
Guys, you are welcome, but be warned - this is for some specific issues!:)
Laurie I am hoping you found this new thread because I want to start out with a question:
I am going through menopause right now, and am having bladder infections a lot more than usual and was told that is normal for "women my age".
So he prescribed an estrogen suppository. Since I try to be an educated patient I knew that hormone replacement can cause clots, I asked him and he said since it's localized and the estrogen wouldn't go any other place....
Ok, then I picked up the item and right there on the package it said that people on anti coagulants shouldn't take it.
anyone have any experiences with this? Laurie, have you ever run across any possible interactions?
As an interesting side note, after a 7-day course of cipro, and the hormone suppository, my INR was 1.9. Last time, on only 3 days of cipro, my INR was 3.1.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Angela, I cannot take anything with estrogen. For your bladder infections the only thing I can suggest to you is to drink a lot of water (225 ml a day) and if you can (cranberry juice) I'm not supposed to have cranberry juice as it is not recommended with coumadin. But I think in small quantities it doesn't hurt. Hope this was helpful.

I`m 18 years old, and am taking up to 9mg of warfarin a day. However, I`ve had my period for about a month or longer. The doctors seem to say its perfectly fine and they`re gonna put me on iron vitamins but im freaking out. It just wont go away and I dont understand, it seems no body is taking this seriously.

First for during your period- wear a girdle to avoid space make clots and like after delivery the uterus contracts but a tired one doesn't and leaves space for clots for form. Second ask your doctor about having one of the arteries that supply the uterus blocked off the reduce the supply. An interventional radiologist at the hospital (as day surgery) can do that with a consult, any of your doctors can see to that. Or for those whose bleeds don't leave your hbg under 9 then try the novasure procedure.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
