My urine was very dark and in the water there were two levels. A pink lighter level on top and a very dark brown level below that. Do you think that was blood. My wife is an RN and she said yes. I did not take my warfarin last night and today my chest did not hurt, I could breathe much better, my back between my shoulder blades did not hurt and NO headaches. I actually had more energy to do a few things today. I was on a 325mg aspirin before the warfarin and felt great. Does anyone know how long the warfarin stays in your system before you can take aspirin? Thanks

i have been on Warfarin for about two months, this moring I noticed pink urine and what looks like little clots, on first going, I wondering because i did 40 situps, the day before, and had a glass of wine that this is what caused it. Does anyone no the answer. Should I stop the meds for today?

Does any one know? You need to notify your doctor or protime lab, which ever is monitoring your blood. I have been on warfarin for two years and one thing I have learned, you have to be pretty consistent with what you eat and drink. I have had two episodes of blood in urine since starting the drug and had to have my dosage changed. Be sure you let someone know what's going on with you.

i have been taking warfarin for 4 months now. three days ago i have had a lot of blood in my urine and it has freaked me out. I can't eat because this plays with my head so much. because of past med problems I have so many emergency room bills I just can't afford any more,so I have to wait till monday to see my regular dr. I have no pain at all. my inr is at 2.4 which is good. I am the type of person that has never taken medication. All of this has me very upset but feel traped into taking medication and very worried that if i stop warfarin I may have more blood clot, which was in my upper right arm. I was told by my doctor that it should never gone to my right arm,he said it should have gone to my left arm and should have had a stroke. Reading about everyones problems with this stuff and doctors not telling me everything about these sidr affects just...well beside myself,,,frusated.

It takes 2-3 days for the coumadin to work its way out;or within 2-3 days it can be dangerously high. The key, as a previous poster said, is diet consistency. You gotta eat the same quantity of greens each day.(Google warfarin and diet -- there's things like cranberries and green tea you should just stay away from, and it helps if you know which foods are high in Vitamin K) If you're drinking, especially heavily, it can make your liver work hard and the coumadin take longer to metabolize, effectively making your INR go up. So yeah, if you closed down the bar last night, you might have a high INR and blood in your urine. What to do if you don't want to go to the ER? I had a 10.0 at a lab while traveling and did not go to the ER for a Vitamin K shot as they told me... it was already late and I was thinking perhaps the lab was wrong and I'd go the next day, but I definitely was freaking out that I was going to have a brain bleed any minute! Went to another lab the next day, I was at 6.8 -- still way high, but I risked sitting it out with no ER visit. I just stopped coumadin for a couple of days. Rechecked 4 days later and it was at 3.0. I've heard it usually falls faster than that when you've stopped taking it, and since I was using different labs while traveling, they do vary a bit. I would tell you not to risk 2 days off it getting it tested again a few days later (which necessitates the doctor knowing unless you have your own test machine). To make myself feel better, I'd eat a good portion of spinach, broccoli or brussell sprouts -- that should help bring down your INR the next day or so, if indeed that is the source of your urine in the blood. My advice (which no one on here should really listen to!) is not to freak out if you have a bit of color in your urine -- twice I've had it-- but if you're peeing bright red, I wouldn't care about the expense-- get to the ER. If you're internally bleeding, you can't sit around for your INR to drop. You can in the next month or two, call their business office and negotiate -- most hospitals will take 50% of the bill as full payment if there's a chance someone can't pay at all.

Nick, I noticed you said "3 days ago"... it took 3-4 days for my "pinkish/rust" looking urine to go back to clear. So I hope yours is about ready to disappear for you. You didn't mention the color, but if its just tinting the water, I wouldn't sweat it. Check with the doc on Monday. And if you've been working out hard and lifting weights, that can do it too.
